The bigger problem
[edit]Failed RfBs, like failed RfAs, are likely to generate unhelpful controversy and be draining and disspiriting for the editor involved ... except that the editors involved are likely to be even stronger contributors than at RfA, so the potential downside is higher. It's been almost two years since someone started trying to succeed at RfB who eventually succeeded. There's a theory that when elections are hard to come by and hard to succeed in, the candidates you do get tend to be candidates you don't want ... but I'd like to see more data before offering that as anything other than a hypothesis. Someone recently suggested that RfB is perfect like it is, but they didn't offer any data to support that, and there doesn't seem to be any, certainly not for the last two years. (Disclaimer: No one I know is interested in becoming a crat, and for anyone who's concerned that I'm speaking out of some kind of self-interest here, I'm happy to promise that I'm not interested in and will never run for cratship. I'm concerned about a broken wiki-process. We got lucky with the current crop of crats, and it hasn't hurt us yet, but it will.) - Dank (push to talk) 14:24, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- Aside from the fact that the above is in places heavily spun, in places self-defeating, and misjudged on the whole, I don't see what any of it has to do with Maxim's suitability to be a crat. —WFC— 06:55, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- My reply to you at WT:RFA#Discussion appealed to you more ... fine, we'll go with whatever works. - Dank (push to talk) 10:35, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
Recusal note
[edit]Just in advance if anyone's wondering why I am not closing the RFB as soon as it ends, I'm recused per my support at his RFBAG, so I can't be blamed if there is a late close. MBisanz talk 03:22, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
- Per a support from three years ago? I think it's good to recuse when there's an obvious conflict of interest or bias, but a support in the silly BAG thing from ages ago? Only if it's a close thing should you even think about recusing, otherwise it's not responsible. Bear in mind we recently had a bureaucrat close an RFA after supporting it, and it wasn't unanimous. Nobody complained. AD 14:45, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
