Wikipedia talk:Lugstubs 2 list
Time frame?
[edit]Any idea of the time frame for this process. I've looked at a few which immediately suggest alternate action would be more efficient than creating a draft which will also kick around. Blue Square Thing (talk) 17:12, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- There's no rush; I'm happy to wait a month or even two. BilledMammal (talk) 07:29, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Might take a bit longer than that I'm afraid - things are busy and I'm editing here a lot less than I was. I'd rather have a chance to check them all, but once they're checked that can be dealt with I think. A small number might be better off taken off the list for a while and passed back to potentially interested parties. Blue Square Thing (talk) 07:41, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
D potential issues
[edit]I'm starting at the bottom of the list... I'll keep adding to here - and I'll keep them in the same order so I'll add to the top. Blue Square Thing (talk) 21:30, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- As an indication of why redirection is the better option, the draft process without a manual review leads to articles such as Draft:Haswell Wilson being drafted. A quick look at Olympia suggests notability - and a short search finds multiple obituaries including in The Lancet and a *six page obit* in The Journal of Pathology and Bacteriology. He's clearly notable. Which was obvious from a manual check but I doubt very much that anyone did one because of the overwhelming number of articles nominated. With the list below as of this time stamp I have 69 articles I'd at least redirect and nine I'd draft. There's a probably skew in that because there aren't a huge amount of non-anglophone names in the bottom 78 articles on the list and out coverage of lists is better for English*, Australian and New Zealand cricketers, but it does suggest we should redirect a bunch simply rather than go through the redundancy of creating a draft and then moving that back and then redirecting from there. Which would be interesting but inevitably pretty futile. Blue Square Thing (talk) 07:34, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

- Derek Woodhead - obvs redirect to List of Western Australia first-class cricketers with a note added
- Derreck Calvert - obvious redirect to List of Tasmanian representative cricketers with a note added
- Derrick Townshend - the prose at CricInfo strongly suggests that this is an article to explore a bit more before drafting - by itself it strongly suggests notability and there's also a Wisden obituary. I think there's a case for removing this one from the list for now. A quick search found this obituary and there are several other sources using Dobbo Townshend as the search term. There's clearly notability here.
- Just a comment; obvious redirects I will be working out with Quarry queries, so no need to list them here - the only question is whether you would prefer them to be moved to draft space and then the redirect created, or just the redirect directly created and no draft space article created? BilledMammal (talk) 07:29, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Literally just added that above! The redundancy from a draft article existing is obvious. Much more efficient to simply redirect. They prob do need to be listed because it's not clear in every case where to redirect to. Blue Square Thing (talk) 07:35, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- I was wondering if it might be more efficient for me to simply do the redirections whilst I'm working through? Would that work or would it cause more problems? I don't think any of the ones I've come across so far are particularly controversial. Blue Square Thing (talk) 08:26, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
- I've expanded David Dempsey to show that he was quite a prominent player in his time. A definite keep! Sammyrice (talk) 11:54, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
- And the same now with Delroy Morgan. Sammyrice (talk) 11:47, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Others
[edit]- Charles Burls - added some sources and with his links to Surrey there will be very, very likely offline sources. Given teams he played for prob also other obits. Blue Square Thing (talk) 13:51, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
Entries to remove from the list
[edit]I think the following should be removed from the list, since the RfC was confined to articles referenced only to ESPN and CricketArchive (selection criteria 4) and because additional sources have been added and/or are available:
- Adolphus O'Brien. Sources added and other newspaper articles are in Past Papers. He played in two intercolonial international matches in the 1880s, at least one of which is notable. In a worst case scenario he could be merged to List of Auckland representative cricketers. I should draw your attention to Papers Past, a collection of scans of New Zealand Newspapers from the National Library of New Zealand. This raises, in relation to New Zealand cricketers, the same issues that Trove raises for the Australians.
- A list of other cricketers who need to be removed from the list after expansion: Alan Devlin (cricketer), Alec Kerr, Allen Kerr (cricketer), Arthur Cant,
- James500 (talk) 22:21, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
- Just come across both Kerr articles and there are clearly enough sources for both in the articles. Allen might well be better known as Charles - per McCarron should anyone be looking for more sources. Blue Square Thing (talk) 20:11, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- Added some stuff to Carlton Hay that scratches the surface. Appears to be clearly notable as a sportsman, an administrator and a businessman. Blue Square Thing (talk) 19:31, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- Charles Osmond would seem to be notable. Added a little which scratches the surface of what's available. Confident that there's much more there with time Blue Square Thing (talk) 11:01, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- Derek Scott (cricketer) would also appear to be notable - I've done no more than scratched the surface again, but there would seem to be enough to certainly take the article out of this category. Blue Square Thing (talk) 19:07, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- Alfred Sloman not entirely sure, but I've done a limited amount of work on it and I think there's the real potential for there to be enough sources there to build this one further. Worth taking off this list and properly thinking about. Blue Square Thing (talk) 08:39, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- Charles Stone (New Zealand cricketer) - based on an obit I think there will be more here with detailed searching. Certainly needs proper consideration. Blue Square Thing (talk) 11:45, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- Basil Totman, again, think there's enough sources to be found here. Added some, but others will take hours and I'd rather hit more articles first. Blue Square Thing (talk) 19:10, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- Brian Warner (cricketer) - lots of hits and, again, I've only scratched the surface so far Blue Square Thing (talk) 12:23, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- David Weston (cricketer) clearly enough here - again, just scratching the surface but came close to being an All Black so a detailed search will turn up a tonne of stuff Blue Square Thing (talk) 13:18, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- Charles Aldridge, I've only added a little, but there's lots available, especially when you search under Bill Aldridge Blue Square Thing (talk) 09:49, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- Bryan Higgins (cricketer), tricky one, but based on knowing that an obituary exists, NEXIST can come into play here and I'd probably give the bod to the article and keep it Blue Square Thing (talk) 05:59, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- Craig Ross (Northern Districts cricketer) plenty here, including at leats two in depth sources. There will be much, much more in paper archives as well Blue Square Thing (talk) 06:14, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- David Cooper (New Zealand cricketer) notable for his administrative career - can't quite make the link to the person of the same name at NZ Netball but likely to be the same Blue Square Thing (talk) 11:06, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- Arthur Aldersley, again I've only scratched the surface here - there are hundreds of hits on PapersPast and we know an obit was published Blue Square Thing (talk) 07:27, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- Bill Burton (cricketer), a tricky search term but there are lots of hints of much more there. This is worth the benefit of the doubt with I think Blue Square Thing (talk) 12:39, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- Arthur Duncan (New Zealand cricketer) multiple sources, including multiple in depth obituaries from different sources. Again, I'm scratching the surface and I imagine there's more to be found Blue Square Thing (talk) 15:57, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- Arthur George (cricketer) multiple obits and that's really only scratching the surface Blue Square Thing (talk) 08:43, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- Arnold Gedye less clearcut, but there's lots and lots of hits which would need wading through. Scratched the surface only again, but I think we'd be able to build a biography here Blue Square Thing (talk) 15:24, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- Arthur Hawthorne a bit more marginal, but there seems lots and lots of decent mentions. Certainly worth considering in more depth Blue Square Thing (talk) 06:17, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- Arthur Howard (New Zealand cricketer) again a little more marginal, but this is very much scratching the surface and there seems lots more Blue Square Thing (talk) 09:15, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- Deepak Joon certainly enough to consider separately, and I imagine there are more sources if we look Blue Square Thing (talk) 16:36, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- Charles Kreeft multiple obits. Very much scratching the surface here, but very likely to be much more in other mentions Blue Square Thing (talk) 06:25, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
- Arthur Longden multiple sources. Again, scratching but there's plenty there. Blue Square Thing (talk) 21:01, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
Additional redirect list
[edit]Going to start a list as and when I come across any beyond the ones above:
- Chris Lee (cricketer) redirect to List of Auckland representative cricketers#L whom he played most of his cricket for (also appears on the Wellington list). There's almost certainly more in offline sources but I can find little online
- Alexander Morrison (cricketer) redirect to List of Auckland representative cricketers#M at which point I'll add a note. May well be known as Ross Morrison and I can't quite work out if he's the Alexander Ross Morrison who was awarded a NZOM in 2016 for services to tennis - lots of things fit but I can't find a definitive connection or very much in terms of coverage
- Bradley Nielsen redirect to List of Auckland representative cricketers#N. Very little online
- Brendon Oxenham redirect to List of Northern Districts representative cricketers#O - can find very little online, but offline sources likely given how much he played
- Dean Potter (cricketer) redirect to List of Auckland representative cricketers#P - seems to be based in Northland and involved in cricket admin, but can't find much quickly
- Albert Putt redirect to List of Auckland representative cricketers#P - Auckland selector but v little to be found online
- Charles Restieaux redirect to List of Auckland representative cricketers#R - played a ton of club cricket in both Dunedin and Auckland and there's probably sources there if anyone dug hard enough
- Aubrey Ritchie redirect to List of Auckland representative cricketers#R - there's a certain obituary out there but not possible to access. No other sources jump out
- Dawson Ritchie redirect to List of Auckland representative cricketers#R. Not finding anything here
- Allen Roberts redirect to List of Auckland representative cricketers#R. Again, not finding v much
- Alfred Scott (New Zealand cricketer) redirect to List of Auckland representative cricketers#S - tricky search name; might be more sources, but not in the time I have available to search for them
- Brian Sorenson redirect to List of Auckland representative cricketers#S. Some possibilities here but tricky to find immediate sources
- Charles Stafford (cricketer) redirect to List of Auckland representative cricketers#S. V little to go on here
- Arthur Williams (cricketer) redirect to List of Auckland representative cricketers#W. No dates or middle name and the search term is too common
- Aaron Bradley redirect to List of Northern Districts representative cricketers#B I imagine. There's some stuff but not a huge amount. More might be findable, but he played in that annoying era where online stuff is hard to find
- David Blake (New Zealand cricketer) redirect to List of Central Districts representative cricketers#B for now. Played lots of matches and there are hints of coverage, but again, playing in the 90s makes it harder to find stuff
- Allen Collier redirect to List of Northern Districts representative cricketers#C - little bits and pieces, but nothing substantial at present
- Brian Foulds redirect to List of Northern Districts representative cricketers#F - finding nothing really
- Brian Gill (cricketer) redirect to List of Northern Districts representative cricketers#G - again, nothing obvious coming up
- Brook Hatwell redirect to List of Northern Districts representative cricketers#H - again, nothing obvious coming up
- Brett Hood redirect to List of Northern Districts representative cricketers#H - there's some coverage in the Northern Advocate, but it's marginal. With more in depth digging this could probably be turned into a keep
- Dean Potter (cricketer) redirect to List of Northern Districts representative cricketers#P - little immediately found
- Ashok Puna redirect to List of Northern Districts representative cricketers#P - there's some stuff there but it's pretty thin at this point
- Brian Spragg redirect to List of Northern Districts representative cricketers#S - there's probably some material out there - played under-19 national team for example, but I can't find anything quickly enough
- Brendan Ward redirect to List of Northern Districts representative cricketers#W - again, probably stuff there but there's nothing substantial that jumps out. Playing for BoP and Southland at Hawke Cup level suggests there will be plenty of offline stuff, but it's getting access that remains the problem
- Bruce Baldwin (cricketer) redirect to List of Central Districts representative cricketers#B - nothing jumping out
- Craig Bartlett (cricketer) redirect to List of Central Districts representative cricketers#B - nothing jumping out
- Chris Cruikshank redirect to List of Central Districts representative cricketers#C - again, nothing jumping out
- David Kivell redirect to List of Central Districts representative cricketers#K probably - seems to have played a decent standard of provincial rugby as well, so there's almost certainly some coverage if someone can search in depth, but nothing jumps out as super in detail
- Dave Richardson (New Zealand cricketer) redirect to List of Central Districts representative cricketers#R, possibly with some sort of hat note to ensure that he's not mistaken, as CricInfo seems to have, with Dave Richardson (South African cricketer)
- Ben Stoyanoff redirect to List of Central Districts representative cricketers#S - nothing jumps out and with a less common name I'd expect it to if it were there
- David Tarrant redirect to List of Central Districts representative cricketers#T - again, nothing jumping out
- Christopher Webb (cricketer) redirect to List of Central Districts representative cricketers#W - and again, nothing jumping out
- David Airey redirect to List of Wellington representative cricketers#A - nothing obvious here
- David Henry (cricketer) redirect to List of Wellington representative cricketers#H - CricketArchive has him as Don Henry, but other sources suggest David; not much coverage otherwise that I can find
- Brian Hopkins (cricketer) redirect to List of Wellington representative cricketers#H - there are hints that there's more here, and he was mainly based in Christchurch and played for Burnside WCU, but it's difficult to find anything properly in depth
- David Hosking (cricketer) redirect to List of Wellington representative cricketers#H - some hints, but rather less certainty
Will presumably add to this list as I work through some related stuff. Blue Square Thing (talk) 09:07, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
