Concerning the Departed it says "Monahan had chosen not to watch Infernal Affairs so that he could create an original interpretation of the Hong Kong action film, and instead worked from an English translation of the Chinese script." Is it a good idea to say that also "Jack Nicholson Nicholson rose to the occasion, working with Scorsese and screenwriter William Monahan to boost and recraft his character, and then coming out with some startlingly unexpected improvisations during shooting? I read in NYT "William Monahan won best adapted screenplay for The Departed, his transplantation of the movie Infernal Affairs from Hong Kong to South Boston." the article doesn't clearly say that it was from Hong Kong to South Boston. In hollywood reporter it says that Martin Scorsese "didn't even anticipate that the combination of his directing and William Monahan's script would attract such a stellar cast, led by Matt Damon and Scorsese three-timer Leonardo DiCaprio, who helped to draw Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Ray Winstone, Vera Farmiga and Alec Baldwin." In another hollywood reporter says "Monahan, a former journalist, took some bold decisions in adapting the Hong Kong movie "Infernal Affairs" - not least when he refrained from seeing the original movie. Instead, he worked from a translation of the original Chinese screenplay and then took his second bold decision, to locate the film in his native Boston."
