empty alt attributes

[edit]

This search describes a lot of empty alt attributes that probably should be a real alt. It might be good for WCW to have this on the list of things to fix. The primary cause of these empty alt attributes seems to be VE doing a shitty job with images. Looking only within file/image syntax (and not template syntax) to start seems reasonable, and only in the main space (as there are commonly reasons outside main space to want an empty alt text). Here are another 8,000 pages using a similar search. There may be some false positives in the results. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:39, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No server access today

[edit]

Hi. Error message : « Could not connect to database: Unknown MySQL server host 'tools-db' (-2) » Croquemort Nestor (talk) 04:01, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The issue is still there. Why isn't this a service hosted by the wikipedia foundation btw? Stefangrotz (talk) 13:34, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Croquemort Nestor and Stefangrotz: It is back up. Just had to kick the web server :). toolforge.org is a wikimedia server. See wikitech:Help:Toolforge. --Bamyers99 (talk) 20:31, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your work! Stefangrotz (talk) 21:02, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help. Croquemort Nestor (talk) 03:36, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ruwiki

[edit]

Yesterday someone marked all the mistakes as done. Can I request a new dump scan? Lvova Anastasiya (talk) 08:17, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Lvova: I will run it after the September 20 or October 1 dump. --Bamyers99 (talk) 13:01, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect pages

[edit]

Sometimes checkwiki errors are found on redirect pages, but annoyingly, the links to them in the automatically generated lists for each error are just regular links, so when you click on such a link, it takes you to the page that the redirect points to, which is not correct, because the problem is with the redirect page itself. We should change these links to no redirect links. TTWIDEE (talk) 08:31, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@TTWIDEE: The links have been changed to not redirect. --Bamyers99 (talk) 19:08, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Phabricator tag

[edit]

If I want to report an issue or a feature request, is there a phabricator tag? Or should I put it here? Ladsgroupoverleg 11:49, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ladsgroup: This is the place for the dump/recent changes scanner. --Bamyers99 (talk) 13:19, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bamyers99 I bring the issue to you, please let me know if it's in the wrong place. phab:T375973 is the issue for AWB but checkwiki also has the problem of reporting "reference duplication" for Chicago MoS while it shouldn't report that. Ladsgroupoverleg 11:48, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ladsgroup: If Chicago MoS is site-wide, the error can be disabled. If this is random articles, the articles can be white-listed. Line error_004_whitelistpage_fawiki in fa:ویکی‌پدیا:ویکی‌پروژه_تصحیح_ویکی‌پدیا/ترجمه is an example for a different error. --Bamyers99 (talk) 20:08, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
it's not site-wide, it's on articles in certain topics. Thanks! cc. @Lvova Ladsgroupoverleg 21:41, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

CheckWiki error 3

[edit]

This error, "Reference list missing", doesn't account for redirects in ukwiki. I've checked the translation page (uk:Вікіпедія:Проєкт:Check Wikipedia/Translation) and it has error_003_templates_ukwiki set, that includes "примітки", but it still triggers on uk:Сезон ФК «Реал Мадрид» 2015—2016, which has {{примітки|2}}. What could be the issue here? MonX94 (talk) 04:47, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MonX94: The translation page was moved in 2022 from uk:Вікіпедія:Проект:Check Wikipedia/Translation. Checkwiki was reading the old translation page. I have updated the checkwiki database to use the new page. I will process the October 1 dump file when it is ready. --Bamyers99 (talk) 00:56, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! MonX94 (talk) 01:14, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Ref list (Error 3) for Disambiguation pages

[edit]

While AWB fixing the error 3, "Reference list missing", I found that a large portion of the articles were disambiguation pages, but disamb pages should not have references, so therefore no ref lists. I believe there should be a fixing in the code of check wiki to not include the error for pages with {{disambiguation}}.

Bunnypranav (talk) 15:45, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Bunnypranav: It only reports error 3 if it finds a <ref> tag. Examples: Mazda (disambiguation), Masterpiece (disambiguation) The pages would look better with a references section instead of the references displaying at the bottom of the page. --Bamyers99 (talk) 18:57, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bamyers99 that is true, but dab page should not have a ref tag at all, so why a references section? Bunnypranav (talk) 05:05, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bunnypranav: If the references need to be removed, why would you want checkwiki to stop reporting them? --Bamyers99 (talk) 12:59, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bamyers99 If the reference need to be removed, check wiki should not report them under error 3, as one fixing error 3 might assume that they should add a ref list, not remove the refs right? Bunnypranav (talk) 13:04, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bunnypranav: I have updated the error description to include disambiguation page with disallowed <ref> tag. --Bamyers99 (talk) 17:06, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Bamyers99, this will alert and inform future editors. Bunnypranav (talk) 12:21, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Checkwiki

[edit]

Hey, sorry for bothering you, but I see that you are the maintainer of the CheckWiki. Thank you for your hard work; I find the tool very useful. I've read on the talk page that it is possible to whitelist a page. Could you please whitelist this one in plwiki table: pl:XHTML (CheckWiki report). CheckWiki reports that there are some unclosed tags, however they are encapsulated in a template pl:Template:Kod and cause no real issues. Also, I would like to ask if it'd be possible to introduce some new positions to CW? For example, I've noticed that refs which are constructed like this: <ref name="">...</ref>, <ref name=>...</ref> or even <ref name>...</ref> generate bad anchors (ids) and links and therefore do not take our readers to the reference list and vice versa; see for example the 3rd ref in Only_Us_(Dear_Evan_Hansen_song). It'd be great to be able to have a list of pages with such errors on CW. Cheers, Tufor (talk) 19:24, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Tufor: I have whitelisted the page. You can look at my plwiki edits to see how it was done. I have also added an empty reference name check to error 104. This will only look for new errors in future edits. It will be a couple of months before all of the articles are rescanned during a dump scan. --Bamyers99 (talk) 19:08, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
