This discussion-based course examines dramatic literature and its theatrical performance from the explosion of "-isms" at the beginning of the twentieth century through the innovations heralding the beginning of the twenty-first. Modern societies and ways of thinking have undergone radical transformations during this period, as have dramatic and theatrical expression. We will explore this era of change through the close examination of approximately twenty plays, related critical readings, films of plays, and lively discourse. Students will be given an assignment to select an artist or art work that we engage in the course, and to conduct research on tha artist/work. They will then identify, in a written proposal, what specific sections of that artist/work's wiki page could be enhanced via editing - removal of inaccurate information and the insertion of information based on reliable sources that are included and linked in the footnotes. Upon review of their proposal, students will be expected to complete those edits as their final project in the course.
