Wikipedia:WikiProject Greater Boston Public Transit/Assessment

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome to the assessment department of the Greater Boston Public Transit WikiProject! This department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's Greater Boston public transit articles. While much of the work is done in conjunction with the WP:1.0 program, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.

The ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WikiProject Greater Boston Public Transit}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories of Category:Greater Boston Public Transit articles by quality and Category:Greater Boston Public Transit articles by importance, which serve as the foundation for an automatically generated worklist.

Please list it in the section for assessment requests below.
Who can assess articles?
Any member of the Greater Boston Public Transit WikiProject is free to add or change the rating of an article.
Why didn't the reviewer leave any comments?
Unfortunately, due to the volume of articles that need to be assessed, we are unable to leave detailed comments in most cases. If you have particular questions, you might ask the person who assessed the article; they should usually be happy to explain why they gave something the rating they did.
What if I don't agree with a rating?
You can list it in the section for assessment requests below, and someone will take a look at it. Alternatively, you can ask any member of the project to rate the article again.
Aren't the ratings subjective?
Yes, they are, but it's the best system that's been devised up to now; if you have a better idea, please do make us aware of it!

If you have any other questions not listed here, please feel free to ask them on the discussion page for this department.

Importance scale

[edit]
Label Criteria Reader's experience Editor's experience Example
Top The article is one of the core topics of public transportation in the Greater Boston area. Most to all readers from the Greater Boston area, and many from elsewhere, will have high preexisting familiarity of the topic, and should be able to easily relate to it. Articles in this importance range are written in mostly generic terms, leaving technical terms and descriptions for more specialized pages. Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority
High The article covers a topic that is vital to understanding major aspects of Greater Boston public transportation. Most Greater Boston-area readers will be at the very least familiar with the subject area; many people from outside the area will also have at least a cursory knowledge of it. These articles describe the basics beyond the core topics, such as major Boston subway lines and the largest public transit hubs. Some technical and region-specific terms can be used within articles in this range, but where they are used, they should be explained or at least link to articles that discuss the terms in more detail. South Station
Mid The article covers a topic that has a strong but not vital role in the framework of Greater Boston public transportation. Many Greater Boston-area readers will be familiar with the topic being discussed, but a larger majority of readers, even those from the Greater Boston area, may have only cursory knowledge of the overall subject, and non-Greater Bostonians might not have heard of it at all. Articles at this level will cover subjects that are well known but not necessarily vital for one to understand Greater Boston public transportation, such as lesser-known current or major former train lines, major former or mid-size current stations, and the smaller public-transportation authorities. Due to the topics covered at this level, Mid-importance articles will generally have more technical and region-specific terms used in the article text. Worcester Regional Transit Authority
Low The article is not required knowledge for a broad understanding of public transportation in the Greater Boston area. Few readers who are not enthusiasts or specialists in the field of Greater Boston public transportation may be familiar with the subject matter. It is likely that the reader does not know anything at all about the subject before reading the article. Articles at this range of importance will often delve into the minutiae of public transport in the Greater Boston area, using technical and region- or locality-specific terms (and defining them) as needed. Topics included at this level include small, local stations or stops, the shorter and/or less important former train lines, and generally anything that is of importance only to a small, local area or otherwise poorly known outside it.
