Adding a new AfD discussion

Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:

Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Indiana|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.

Removing a closed AfD discussion

Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.

Other types of discussions

You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Indiana. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

Medford, Indiana

Comment. A 1973 Delaware County, Indiana ordinance calls it the "Town of Medford", and there are a few scattered, mostly unreliable mentions of it, e.g. an obituary, "Barb attended a Seagoing Cowboys celebration in Medford, Indiana, during Heifer's 70th anniversary in 2014.", "Barth, a Medford, Indiana, manufacturer of recreation and commercial vehicles" (p. 42), 1979. Keep - Although I have not found a reliable source saying "people lived here", I did find the town plat, and also came across obituaries and stuff like that. Google streetview shows a bunch of houses there too. Magnolia677 (talk) 18:28, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The issue with these zoning maps and plats is that what's on the ground bears no particular resemblance to the streets and lots they paint. The plat in particular is so wrong that I cannot determine whether it represents land north or south of the road. likewise, while the zoning ruling at least contains some photography, what has actually happened in the intervening years is that of the area north of the road, the wedge adjacent to the RR RoW has been consolidated into a single property, everything east of that has lapsed back into farmland.I gather the point of the zoning was the consolidation of that land into residential land.

The point here is that there's no doubt in all of this that someone wanted a town here, apparently to the point of setting it up as far as land use was concerned. The substantial discrepancies between the legal definitions and the reality on the ground, however, indicate that the town is a legal fiction that was never realized. The plat in particular is pretty damning, as there is no evidence that any of the streets shown was ever constructed. A few houses along the main road were built, and some sort of business (which presumably was where this Barth was in later years) was built next to the tracks, but that appears to be it. Janney, Indiana

Appears to be a rail point on a now-abandoned C&O line. A county history doesn't mention it, and there's nothing significant there. Mangoe (talk) 15:39, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Best coverage I could find on the town was [1], but that alone isn't sufficient for notability. Maybe could be merged to an article on the rail line, but not sure how those are typically written. Gates Corner, Indiana

Middletown Park, Indiana

This is an older subdivision on the outskirts of Muncie, as explained here. Even the author of said work doesn't hold it a notable town, or even a town at all. Mangoe (talk) 16:43, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

West Muncie, Indiana

This is an edge case given that the history cited in the article does actually have a section on this place. But what it says is almost completely at odds with the picture of this as a 19th century-founded town that's still a going concern: what it says is that yes, a town was founded, and quickly failed. I haven't seen as egregious a misrepresentation of a cited source in these discussions since the days of going over the California articles. (To be clear, the original author wasn't responsible for this; the citation was added later by another.) One could make an argument from WP:GEOLAND that since the documentation is there, an article must be written; I say this is a clear WP:GNG fail, and an example of why GEOLAND is a bad guideline. Redirect to ~~Muncie, Indiana~~ Yorktown, Indiana: Normally I'm all in on deleting stub articles about minor places, but reference 4 has enough to say about this failed settlement that a line or two could probably be added to the ~~Muncie~~ article. Stafford Center, Indiana

The result was redirect‎ to Three 6 Mafia. Seeing as the article is a BLP with poor sourcing, and it spent most of its life as a redirect, per the previous AfD, the limited participation this time is enough to prompt me to revert it to the redirect. Owen× ☎ 17:49, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Originally redirected to Three 6 Mafia at AfD all the way back in 2011, there is indeed not enough coverage here for a standalone BLP. Independent coverage is limited to a report of an injury and a separate legal issue by two gossip sources that should not be used on BLPs, an ASCAP credit to verify his real name (reliable for that purpose, but does not establish notability), a low-quality biography that looks like the product of a content farm (source 6), a list of songs the subject has contributed to (source 7), a one-sentence AllMusic biography, and a link to an Apple Music listing. The only valuable source is 4, which is about Three 6 Mafia, precisely where this article should be redirected to. No evidence of independent notability to pass WP:NMUSICBIO, by all rights should have stayed a redirect especially given the BLP problems present on the page. Redirect to Three 6 Mafia as before. Since last time, his individual notability outside of that group has not grown, as he has a few guest appearances and several solo releases that were ignored.
