Welcome to WikiProject Chumbawamba. Several Wikipedians have formed this collaboration resource and group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of Chumbawamba and the organization of information and articles on this topic. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians interested in the topic. If you would like to help, please add yourself as a participant in the project, inquire on the talk page, and see the to-do list, below.
Goal
[edit]The primary goal of this WikiProject is to increase and improve coverage of Chumbawamba on Wikipedia:
- Increase by creating new articles on the group's notable single and album releases, and by expanding existing, underdeveloped articles.
- Improve by rewriting low-quality content, deleting articles on underdeveloped and non-notable subjects, and adding citations and links to credible sources.
Scope
[edit]- Songs and albums by Chumbawamba
- Members of Chumbawamba
- Any other people or groups that are somehow connected to Chumbawamba (for example, Negativland, with whom Chumbawamba released an EP)
Formatting
[edit]Name
When possible, the title of a Chumbawamba article should be simply the name of the song, album, person, etc. If the title is already occupied, it should be titled "Name (type)", or if there are multiple articles with that name, "Name (Chumbawamba type)." See Pass It Along, Tony Blair (song), and Amnesia (Chumbawamba song).
Layout
Every Chumbawamba song or album article should have a standard layout, as demonstrated in Amnesia (Chumbawamba song):
- an infobox and lead
- composition or writing
- critical reception (assuming it was reviewed by critics)
- chart performance (assuming the song charted)
- track listing
- personnel
- references
- External Links
However, these suggestions are not ironclad. Pass It Along, for example, is known primarily for its use in a car commercial, and its actual composition received very little coverage.
Sources
[edit]Some sources to watch out for... or proceed with caution when using.
No-No
- Whenever possible, use a source other than Discogs for the track listing, per WP:ALBUMAVOID. Since Discogs is user-generated with minimal editorial standards, it’s difficult to verify anything on the site.
- Steer clear of lyric sites like MetroLyrics — although some Chumba articles do cite these cites in the composition section, we really need to get away from it.
- YouTube
Maybe-Maybe
- Liner notes: As any Chumba fan can tell you, the group's liner notes often provide detailed info on every single song's conception, background, and recording. In small doses, the info contained therein might be useful for the Wikipedia article — info such as recording date or location, or perhaps a brief quote from the group as to the song's inspiration. But please, make sparing use of their liner notes; they’re often written in so sardonic a manner that it’s troublesome to tease out the real from the comical, and further, undue dependence on primary sources is a no-no on Wikipedia.
- Allmusic has afforded Chumbawamba's work fairly consistent attention, with many professionally written album & single reviews. These are a terrific way to get info on credits, lyrical content, etc. Just avoid user-generated portions of the site, such as the “Genres” & “Styles” portions of song overviews.
Notability
[edit]There are a handful of existing articles about Chumbawamba songs that simply aren't notable. If a song by them did not chart, wasn't reviewed by any notable source (AllMusic, Billboard, Rolling Stone, etc.), and wasn't used in any media (movies, advertisements, etc.), then it almost definitely fails WP:N, and should be nominated for deletion. Most of the albums already demonstrate notability, with reviews listed, but if there are any that fail the aforementioned guidelines, it's probably best to either try to bulk the article up, or nominate it for deletion or a redirect.
Open tasks
[edit]This one's getting close to GA-class, and could use any touch-ups necessary.
Since it's their best-selling album (more than 3 million copies in the US alone), this article deserves high priority. It's pretty close to being worthy of a GA nomination, but is still in need of some clean-up.
Article is nearing GA-class worthiness, but it still needs some additional sources and possibly a "Background" section.
Recently completed tasks
[edit]Success stories.
- "Pass It Along"
- "Jacob's Ladder (Not in My Name)"
- The ABCs of Anarchism
- "(Someone's Always Telling You How To) Behave"
- Adding and disambiguation of Chumbawamba members on Wikidata
