Current events ongoing in the Capital District:

• President Barack Obama visits Hudson Valley Community College to discuss the economy and the importance of a college education on September 21, 2009.^[1]
• Congressman John M. McHugh (R, New York's 23rd congressional district) is nominated by President Barack Obama to the position of Secretary of the Army.^[2]
• Scott Murphy (D) defeated Jim Tedisco (R), becoming the next Congressman from New York's 20th congressional district. The election filled the vacancy left by US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. The election took place on March 31, 2009, and Tedisco conceded on April 24.^[3]
• Former Congressman John Sweeney was arrested on 2009-04-06 on felony DWI charges after being pulled over doing 59 mph in a 40 mph zone and refusing to take a breathalyzer or consenting to a blood alcohol test.^[4]
