Strategic Goal 3
[edit]To support the use of the Wikimedia projects as important tools for education and learning in the UK.
Outcomes
[edit]- Hosted a Wikidata student intern through Equate Scotland's scheme to provide paid placements for Women in STEM students. Emma Carroll worked for three months geolocating the places mentioned in the Survey of Scottish Witchcraft database so the accused witches of Scotland could be plotted on a map, making over 47,000 edits to Wikidata in the process. Emma blogged about her experience every week and created a raft of map visualisations which are all available to view at the witches.is.ed.ac.uk website which has been viewed circa 100,000 times since its launch on 11 September 2019 and with the Scotsman, Herald, Guardian, Scottish Daily Mail, Vanity Fair Spain, Evening Express, Edinburgh News, Press & Journal, BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio 4, New York Times, John O' Groat Journal and Smithsonian.com and many more covering the story.
- Co-wrote an article for New Case Studies of Openness in the Language Classroom with Lorna Campbell on our experience working on the Wikipedia assignment for Translation Studies MSc over the last three years. Read it here.

[edit]- The Wikimedian in Residence channel on Youtube which has now received over 76,272 views in total of its 70 videos with 310 subscribers (30,700 more views in the last year and 2,200 hours watched approx. since the last report with 78 more subscribers, 331 'likes', and 330 'shares' since the last report).
