Strategic Goal 2
[edit]Support the development of open knowledge in the UK, by increasing the understanding and recognition of the value of open knowledge and advocating for change at an organisational, sectoral and public policy level.
Outcomes
[edit]- Delivered four sessions for the OER17 conference in London on 5th & 6th April (1 presentation on the Edinburgh Residency, 1 lightning talk on Content Translation, 1 lightning talk on the WikiCite project and 1 workshop on Gamifying Wikimedia).
- Delivered 'Teaching with Wikipedia' session for course leaders on 3rd April 2017 where Dr. Chris Harlow shared best practice with colleagues. Greg Singh at the University of Stirling was to present at this session too but is now going to attend at another date and supply a video podcast in the interim.
- Wrote 4 blog articles on the Wikimedian in Residence blog.
- Co-authored a journal article with Richard Nevell (WMUK) for inclusion in the University of Edinburgh journal focused on the University of Edinburgh residency.

Strategic Goal 3
[edit]To support the use of the Wikimedia projects as important tools for education and learning in the UK.
Outcomes
[edit]- Edited and uploaded 5 videos interviews including a compilation of interviews with staff and students who have taken part in our 3 Wikipedia in the Classroom assignments this year.
- Supported the Translation Studies MSc and Edinburgh University Translation Society students so that they can get much-needed published translation practice in translation and develop an ongoing relationship with Wikimedia UK. Both projects have now concluded and a discussion on best practice is to be arranged for mid May 2017 with the Translation Studies MSc course leaders.
- Held a Wikipedia in Education: Event for Course Leaders event for 3rd April 2017 so course leaders from last semester (Dr. Chris Harlow) could share their good practice.
- Delivered a How to run a Wikipedia editathon: Staff Skills Training event (inside & outside the curriculum) on Friday 17th March 2017.

Digitisation
[edit]Collections identified for potential future upload:
- Gavin Willshaw, Digital Curator, has uploaded a test case of Thomas Jehu's PhD thesis to Wikisource during the History of Medicine editathon on 23 & 24 February 2017 and is looking to upload selected other PhD theses and Open Books to Wikisource in the coming months.
- A WiR and Library proposal has been drafted and passed to colleagues at Library & University Collections.
- Paul Barnaby is liaising with Navino Evans to see if Histropedia can be employed with the Our History site.
- We have been given permission to upload images where WW1 nurse orderly Ethel Moir is the creator from the Capital Collections website.
Projects/events in development
[edit]- Arranged with Stephen Kaye on the Mastercard Scholarship Foundation to hold an African Alumni & Swahili editathon in December 2017 (to be followed up in September 2017).
- Awaiting further news from Ruth Burgon (Fruitmarket Gallery) about an editathon themed on art and artists in November 2017 with potential involvement from the History of Art course.
- Continuing discussions with Pauline Ward and Navino Evans about a Wikidata Showcase event at Repository Fringe 2017 - focus areas being the involvement of students and the donation of data to Wikidata (bulk importing).
- Continuing discussions with Jake Broadhurst and Jamie Cross about a Wikimedia event for 60-70 undergraduate students attending the Undergraduate Research Conference on 28 June 2017.
- Continued discussions with Melissa Highton, Lorna Campbell and Daria Cybulska about the Celtic Knot: Wikipedia Language Conference on Thursday 6 July 2017. Abstracts are to be decided upon in discussion with Susan Ross (National Library of Scotland's Gaelic Wikimedian) and Lorna Campbell on Friday 21st April. Keynote speakers have now been secured. A website has also now been created and booking will open shortly.
