Congresspersons
Awhile ago, I tried to jumpstart the Southern CotW, but with little success (it's still largely inactive, I think). There was, however, a lot of support for having a week in which everyone agrees to write a non-stub article on a local congressperson. Especially with a whole bunch of new ones just voted into office, this could be very helpful. With a little promotion, it could be very successful, I think -- what do people here think? - Good idea. I just checked the article on my local congresswoman and it was rather short; I updated it with the election results. Antandrus 03:54, 9 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- I'm willing and able to contribute. --Viriditas 08:48, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Public school
Public school Public school (UK)
There is a hot debate taking place over at Talk:Public school (UK) and Talk:Public school regarding the differences between language and culture in Scotland and England, with the Scottish definition being in line with the US, Canadian, Australian and the rest-of-the-world. But a small number of English patriots seem to want to keep the various colonies in their place and have the English definition dominate the two articles.
Personally, I'm not even sure that there should be a separate article on English public schools, as they are simply a sub-topic of private schools, but if there must be an article it should be called Public school (England) and not Public school (UK) (sic).
Anyway, we Scots would appreciate some input from our "co-definitionists" in the USA!--Mais oui! 21:14, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

Referencing Census 2010
I thought I knew how to reference Census 2010 population numbers but when I clicked on the link it didn't reproduce the Census table where I obtained the information.
To find 2010 Census population numbers, I went to http://factfinder2.census.gov
Then, using the Quick Start section in the middle of the page, type "redistricting" in the "topic box" - from the drop-down list that appears, choose "2010 Redistricting Data SF (PL94-171)" In the "geography box", type your city or countys' name *make sure you have the right state!* - then click "go." From the list of results, check the box next to "Race, Hispanic or Latino, Age, and Housing Occupancy -- 2010 Redistricting Data SF (PL94-171)" *Make sure you have 2010 - not 2000!* Above the results list, click "View."
This goes to a website with http://factfinder2.census.gov/faces/tableservices/jsf/pages/productview.xhtml?fpt=table but you cannot use this as a reference. This is the only way I've found to view 2010 Census Population numbers so far. Has anyone found a referenceable page for the 2010 Census yet? --Mjrmtg (talk) 14:20, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
Collaboration
Hmmmm...Chesapeake Bay stalled a bit, meant to do more but I got distracted elsewhere. Anyway, we also have a tiebreaker for the next collaboration - I guess options are:
- . leave Chesapeake Bay open until it gets to GA
- . accept that it didn't capture the interest of folks and sling up the next but we have a tiebreaker, so shall we leave it open for 48 hours starting now until we get some more votes? Casliber (talk · contribs) 23:37, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
discuss...
FWIW, I am leaning to the latter option. Casliber (talk · contribs) 23:40, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, I've been delinquent. :( The library is not close to me so haven't been able to stop by yet but still interested in helping out, either with the same article or fine with something else. (I can pick whatever books) --Aude (talk) 00:12, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
- Oftentimes on collaboration projects, folks stay around to keep buffing the former collaboration to give it a big shove to GA or FA. If you do get the books, I will knuckle down and do what I can to get it over one of those lines as I have a bit of experience at these things....(i.e. I think we can get it there, but am not familiar with some of the core content) Casliber (talk · contribs) 00:49, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
- I would also be willing to help but frankly my forte' isn't in grammer and prose (apparently others have noticed too :-)). --Kumioko (talk) 01:49, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Anybody here speak really good French?
French Wikipedia just got a version of Historiography of the United States. They have an interesting section on Howard Zinn that it would be nice if the EN article had too. Can somebody help translate it? Purplebackpack89≈≈≈≈ 05:43, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

2010 Census
The 2010 census data are all available now. Are there any plans for an automated or systematic update to U.S. place articles containing census data? As it currently stands, changes are being made willy-nilly. Sometimes editors change the overall census figure in one place in the article, but not in others. Sometimes they change the overall census, but leave the figures from 2000 for subgroups. This is a recipe for disaster. Admittedly, I'm not a member of this project and haven't kept track of its workings, so there may be something in the works regarding this. I guess I just want to know if there are any plans for systematically updating census figures before I jump into making changes myself. 75.13.68.39 (talk) 17:21, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
99 Percent Declaration
I recently created the 99 Percent Declaration article, and now it's been nominated for deletion and rescue. I have lots of possible sources on the talk page, but I would feel more comfortable if there were other editors. Would you please help improve it? Or at least chime in on the deletion discussion or respond to the questions on the talk page? Thank you. Dualus (talk) 19:31, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
New Navbox for elections by year
The pages Category:United States mayoral elections, 2012 and Category:Alaska elections, 2010 have a new navbox (not by me) to readily navigate to adjacent years. It is not specific to the United States or elections, and is similar to the navbox for Category:Terrorist incidents in India in 2010. Note that the Alaskan box is set to “2” to show even years only. While the majority of American elections are in even years, it may be advisable to set it to “1” to include every year, but displaying many redlinks for odd years without elections (the majority). Bell and Lights Air Raid Warning System (1953)
I would like someone to write an article about the above subject. This was a national system developed by A.T.& T. which gave red, yellow, blue, and white alerts over special dedicated telephone circuits which had "bell and lights" annunciators in schools, hospitals, fire stations, and police stations. Searches turn up references to the system but no actual articles about it. submitted 22 March 2012.
