- Template:Forwikt (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
unused hatnote template. Frietjes (talk) 21:53, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
- Keep and document into the wiktionary templates so that people can know about it, to be able to use it. -- 76.65.128.43 (talk) 05:40, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
- the reason this isn't used is that hatnotes are for internal linking, and we use the external links section for linking to external sites. Frietjes (talk) 15:56, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
- We've consensus that hatnotes should only be used for intra-article linking, and that precludes their use for linking to Wiktionary. There's also no obvious use case for this that doesn't fit the existing {{wiktionary}}. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) (talk) 13:54, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
- There are good reasons something like this, as we have articles at "X", but the common use would be a dicitonary defintion "x", and there being no disambiguation page, a link to wiktionary is missing. Since "x" is not the same as "X", a wiktionary box link for the article would be inappropriate, there being two different topics. It would be the same reasoning that we have soft-redirect pages to wiktionary. -- 76.65.128.43 (talk) 05:43, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
- We don't use hatnotes for linking to external sites. {{Wikitionary}} can easily be repurposed for this theoretical use case. It's not an important concern here, which is usually the case for theoretical uses being discussed at TfD. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) (talk) 12:12, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

very rarely used, and generally discouraged, since we should be linking to articles within this wiki instead. if we do need to link to another wiki, there are plenty of other ways to do it (see Help:Interwiki linking and {{ill}}). Frietjes (talk) 17:27, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

this was only being used on about four pages, where I replaced it with a standard commons template. the presentation is out of sync with the main commons templates, and a better approach would be to simply make {{commons}} and/or {{commons category}} have the option for more than one link. or, to create a "multi" version that does. however, this is generally not needed, since there is generally a main category or page on commons related to the particular article. Frietjes (talk) 17:11, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
- Provisional keep until a multi variant has been added or the main template has been updated with multiple entries available. -- 76.65.128.43 (talk) 05:44, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
- If features are needed in the main commons template then they can be proposed there; the mere existence of a now-unused template which contains such functionality is not proof of that need. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) (talk) 13:55, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
