Virtual communities with more than 100 million active users

Hi,

I believe one column should be deleted from this page. The 'Registered Users' column. Almost all companies there never posted their total registered users number bar one from what I checked. So the registered users number corresponds to the number of monthly active users in most cases. Therefore it is false data No companies post this number as it is not useful. It should be deleted as of now it is quite false as most people edit it with same number as monthly users, which makes no sense. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alakagom (talkcontribs) 16:13, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Hello, Alakagom. The place to discuss this is on that article's Talk Page. Often when somebody suggests an improvement to an article "you can edit it yourself!" is good advice; but if you're planning to make a change that affects the whole article, it would be prudent to suggest it on the talk page first. If after a week nobody has disagreed, you can feel free to make the change. --ColinFine (talk) 19:50, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Protocol for uploading photos

Please let me know if there is a specific protocol to add photos to an existing wiki page, which is from the personal collection of the living person written about in wiki. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kajinka! (talkcontribs) 2018-08-17T20:02:53 (UTC)

Hello, Kajinka!. I wouldn't call it a protocol, but there are several steps. The first is to determine the copyright status of the pictures. If they are pictures of a living person they are probably not old enough to be in the public domain; so we would require that the copyright owner (who is usually the photographer, unless there was a contract which specifically said otherwise) expicitly release them under a licence such as CC-BY-SA, which will allow anybody to reuse them for any purpose, commercial or not. If the copyright holder can be identified, and is willing to do this, then it is easiest if they upload the pictures themselves to Wikimedia Commons, declaring that they release them under this licence. If they are not able to do this, then they can send an email as explained at donating copyright materials. But if the copyright holder is not willing to license the pictures in this way (permission to use them on Wikipedia is not sufficient), or if the copyright holder cannot be found, then I'm afraid they cannot be used. See Help:Upload.
Once the pictures have been uploaded successfully to Commons, it is straightforward to insert them into articles. --ColinFine (talk) 20:03, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi ColinFine. The info and the links are very helpful. I had read a lot, but was still uncertain. Many thanks. K — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kajinka! (talkcontribs) 20:31, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Editing the Subject

How would i change the subject of an article if it is not right. I am not able to change the name of a page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shak926 (talkcontribs) 18:30, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Hello Shak926 Changing the title of an article is done by moving the article to the new title. See WP:Move --Vexations (talk) 21:00, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

how to publish

Hi there, I have been trying to publish this article since yesterday with no success I am also trying to upload a picture, I can't even see where This is so confusing. Who can help ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LongShotCandidate (talkcontribs) 19:39, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

Welcome to the Teahouse. I recommend you read WP:Your first article and the instructions in the File Upload Wizard. — pythoncoder  (talk | contribs) 21:56, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
It looks like you are asking about User:LongShotCandidate/sandbox. Just click the "submit your draft for review" button I added. You should still read the pages above before submitting, to see if the page meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. — pythoncoder  (talk | contribs) 21:59, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
By the way, if you intend to submit an article about "Jean-Philibert Mabaya Gizi Amine" then that should be the title, not LongShotCandidate. Really. David notMD (talk) 22:44, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
The draft article is unsourced, and the subject may have challenges meeting Wikipedia's notability standards, from what I can find about him. You might also want to read Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Common outcomes#Candidates. Unless he's elected, it would also be a case of WP:TOOSOON. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 23:00, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
timtempleton, the draft says that this person has been an elected Senator in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2006. Accordingly, he meets the notability guideline for politicians if this can be verified. Obviously, the draft article needs to be referenced before it can be accepted. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 01:13, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
Here is a French language Congolese news article that identifies him as a Senator and head of an opposition political movement. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 01:25, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
I missed that senator reference Cullen328 - the editor buried the lede apparently. I didn't see Mr. Amine's name in the French source you posted though. I did find this hacked cable from 2007, which says he was President of Office National des Transports (Congo). [[1]]TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 00:14, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

First, my apology for confusing your User name with the article name Draft:Jean-Philibert Mabaya Gizi Amine. Right now, no references, will not be approved. David notMD (talk) 21:08, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

Inappropriate use of images on User pages

On the Wikimedia Commons, there are *a lot* of nude images and stuff like that. Are we allowed to put those on our user pages? I don't want to because that's rather gross, but I'm just curious as to whether or not there are community guidelines that would ban me if I tried that. Redditaddict69 11:45, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

@Redditaddict69: Wikipedia:User_pages#Images_that_would_bring_the_project_into_disrepute ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 11:48, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
Redditaddict69 There are guidelines; see WP:UPNOT and WP:NOTWEBHOST. Vexations (talk) 12:02, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
For what it's worth, I have come across some user pages of experienced editors which include as an image or background some nude photograph. It has only happened a few times, though. The picture has always been some nude photography art, though, rather unsurprisingly of a woman. I doubt this is prohibited and considered actionably disruptive, but it might be discouraged and an occasional user who does not understand Wikipedia's position on censorship might complain on the user talk page. It is definitely gray area content. The third note (permanent link) at Wikipedia:User pages is particularly relevant. —Nøkkenbuer (talkcontribs) 16:43, 17 August 2018 (UTC); last sentenced added at 16:49, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Indian economy

what is Indian economy and how it is different from others?

ajay kumar b103.77.239.144 (talk) 05:09, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Hello, ajay. This page is not the right place for this sort of question - this is about help with editing Wikipedia. The WP:Reference desk is a better place for general-knowledge questions. But even better is searching the encyclopaedia. If you had done that it would have taken you to the article Economy of India. --ColinFine (talk) 08:19, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Is it possible to "revert" a clearly vandalistic page move, without all the voting procedures?

So, an editor renamed this article Cengizhan Erdoğan about a Tuvan sportsperson to a new name. Obviously he didn't cite any sources so I am presuming it was an attempt at trolling. I can't move the page back to its original name because the original name is now a redirect. Is it possible to move that page back without spending time on starting a vote and then waiting for people to stumble across that vote because that page is clearly not watched by a lot of people? Openlydialectic (talk) 12:07, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

@Openlydialectic: Since this seems like an uncontroversial move back, you can go to Wikipedia:Requested moves and list it under "Requesting technical moves". --bonadea contributions talk 12:20, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
@Openlydialectic: I suggest you ask Mohsen1248 why they moved the page before you attempt to revert it. It's not a good idea to assume that an edit was "vandalistic" or "trolling" just because the reason for it is not immediately apparent to you. Assume good faith and consensus are the fundamental principles of our community. We don't "vote" on things. – Joe (talk) 14:10, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
a clearly vandalistic page move !! well done. if you know nothing about something better to just leave it. sometimes I'm busy with multiple edits and forget to add refs. this guy Open Sat is not a naturliazed Turkish citizen under a new name Cengizhan Erdoğan, while they didn't mention it in his database porfile you still can see his achievement when he was representing Russia. Mohsen1248 (talk) 14:24, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
If it had been a vandalistic move it could have been moved back despite the presence of the redirect (see WP:MOR), but it obviously wasn't vandalistic, see ref 2 in the article. --David Biddulph (talk) 16:55, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Newb Need opinions about editing

Hi, I've never edited. I was reading an article & found statements which caught my attention because it appears to be an opinion rather than fact. The article is "Colin Kaepernick" Here is the above mentioned part:

His actions prompted negative and positive responses. The negative responses included suggestions that players who protest should be fired;[4] other people displayed their disapproval of players' protests by leaving the stadium immediately after the protests or refusing to watch games at all.[5][6] Positive responses included similar activity by additional athletes in the NFL and other American sports leagues protesting in various ways during the anthem.

I feel that each person may differ on if it was a positive, or negative response so here is I hope a better way:

His actions prompted various responses. There were suggestions that players who protest should be fired, people displayed their disapproval of player's protests by leaving the stadium immediately after the protests or refusing to watch or attend games at all. Some additional athletes in the NFL and other American sports leagues began similar protests in various ways during the anthem.

Since I'm new, I'd rather have some input before I try to edit it without knowing the ropes. Thanks in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Philthy McNasty (talkcontribs) 05:58, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Welcome to the Teahouse, Philthy McNasty. Because this is a collaborative project, please consider whether your username might alienate some other editors. The proper place to discuss these changes is Talk:Colin Kaepernick. In my opinion, your proposed change explains the criticism of Kaepernick pretty well, but does not adequately explain the support for his stance. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:34, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
(FWIW, the mock name "Philthy McNasty" is a longstanding joke in UK culture which has been used for a number of bars and restaurants amongst other applications (as G°°gle will demonstrate), and which no-one would find any more offensive than, say, "Boaty McBoatface". I suppose Cullen may be correct that non-UK readers might misinterpret it.) {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230,195} 94.0.130.143 (talk) 19:47, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Difference between "(U.S. politician)" and "(American politician)"?

If you search the following two things, you get hundreds of results:

  • intitle:"(U.S. politician)"
  • intitle:"(American politician)"

So what's the difference? Why are there different titles for U.S. vs. American?

And some of them have redirects to the opposite version. Example:

Redditaddict69 14:23, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi Redditaddict69, welcome to the Teahouse. Hmm, it seems that there is no difference. They mean the same thing. I guess Wikipedia just has inconsistent titling for this sort of "parenthetical disambiguation". I suppose this probably calls for some kind of centralized discussion to decide which version we prefer so that our article titling is consistent. Mz7 (talk) 20:06, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

TV Series no. of seasons/episodes

For articles on TV series should the number of seasons/episodes shown in the info box on the right include yet to be aired seasons/episodes? I would think not and have occasionally been caught out by this when it shows there is a season I haven't seen and then see it says it will air "TBC 2019" or something similar. Would I be right to edit this to what has already been released or is it correct to have the future (but confirmed) shown here as well?

I'm sure there must be a guideline which explains this somewhere, and I did try and search the site as well as doing one through Google but came up empty handed. Sorry for asking something I'm sure is well documented somewhere... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.16.85.134 (talk) 14:46, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I'm not an expert on television infoboxes (another Teahouse host might know more!), but I can point you to the documentation pages for the infoboxes. The infobox you'll find on main television series articles is {{infobox television}}, and if you go to Template:Infobox television, you'll find the documentation for the template in the green box. Incidentally, the documentation says that the |num_seasons= parameter should only be incremented once the first episode of that season or series has aired, or if a reliable source confirms production has commenced. An inline citation is required if the total number of seasons produced is greater than the number aired. Similarly, the |num_episodes= should only be incremented when new episodes air. I hope this information is helpful. Mz7 (talk) 20:30, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Thank you, that looks like exactly what I was after. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.16.85.134 (talk) 21:03, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Name for an article

The name of this tennis tournament is "Lagos Open", and it is not related to Lagos Open. Since the latter has been discontinued, will it be out of place if the one in my sandbox takes the name, while the other one is disambiguated to something else? If it is not possible, what alternative name can be given to the most significant tennis tournament in Nigeria (sandbox)?HandsomeBoy (talk) 02:04, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

One option: rename the existing article to "Lagos Open (1976–1991)" and the new one to "Lagos Open (2000–present)" with "Lagos Open" as a dab page. Chris857 (talk) 03:05, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Submission Declined

Hello,

My submission for my article BARJONA was declined and the message that was sent to me was, "Hard to know what this is but a suitable draft it isn't". This is the only feedback that I received. There were no further explanations or any helpful information at all. I would like a better explanation as to why my article was declined please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Muziqmeistro (talkcontribs) 21:06, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

@Muziqmeistro: Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. The draft you created seems to me to just state the existence of a church and some biblical passages associated with it. I assume it to be more than that, but that's the only way I can describe it. Unfortunately, that is not valid article content. Wikipedia articles must do more than merely tell about a subject. Their content must be supported with independent reliable sources that show how the subject is notable as Wikipedia defines it. You may want to read Your First Article to learn more about the process and what is being looked for. 331dot (talk) 21:12, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
  • @Muziqmeistro: If you're going to write an article about anyone or anything, here are the steps you should follow:
1) Choose a topic whose notability is attested by discussions of it in several reliable independent sources.
2) Gather as many professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources you can find.
3) Focus on just the ones that are not dependent upon or affiliated with the subject, but still specifically about the subject and providing in-depth coverage (not passing mentions). If you do not have at least three such sources, the subject is not yet notable and trying to write an article at this point will only fail.
4) Summarize those sources from step 2, adding citations at the end of them. You'll want to do this in a program with little/no formatting, like Microsoft Notepad or Notepad++, and not in something like Microsoft Word or LibreOffice Writer.
5) Combine overlapping summaries (without arriving at new statements that no individual source supports) where possible, repeating citations as needed.
6) Paraphrase the whole thing just to be extra sure you've avoided any copyright violations or plagiarism.
7) Use the Article wizard to post this draft and wait for approval.
8) Expand the article using sources you put aside in step 2 (but make sure they don't make up more than half the sources for the article, and make sure that affiliated sources don't make up more than half of that).
Doing something besides those steps typically results in the article not being approved, or even in its deletion. Ian.thomson (talk) 00:39, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

Reliable source

My submission was declined as I did not cite a reliable source such as an in-depth written article by a newspaper etc , does this mean if I cannot obtain this I should withdraw my submission?

Shane Royle (talk) 21:58, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

@Shane Royle: If there are no such sources, then the topic is not notable. Doing a quick search on Google News and Google Books, I didn't see any sources either. Otherwise, I'd link a few for you to base the article on.
You can request that the page be deleted by putting {{Db-g7}} at the top of the draft (assuming you're the only person who has put any real work into it).
My usual advice for when you're going to write an article on any topic:
1) Choose a topic whose notability is attested by discussions of it in several reliable independent sources.
2) Gather as many professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources you can find.
3) Focus on just the ones that are not dependent upon or affiliated with the subject, but still specifically about the subject and providing in-depth coverage (not passing mentions). If you do not have at least three such sources, the subject is not yet notable and trying to write an article at this point will only fail.

Your draft Draft:Tocher and Tocher Taxidermists was declined because many of the proposed references mention Tocher and Tocher very briefly, and much of the content had no references. You deleted some content and resubmitted. In my opinion, the article will be declined again. This topic may be too obscure to be an article. As mentioned above, you can request that the page be deleted by putting {{Db-g7}} at the top of the draft. David notMD (talk) 00:52, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi Apollo C. Quiboloy fans. Unfortunately, Wikia is not a reliable source for the purposes of adding information to Wikipedia because it is largely user-generated like Wikipedia is. A reliable source would be something like a reputable newspaper/magazine (or the website of such a reputable news organization), a published book, or an academic journal. For more information on what constitutes a reliable source, please see Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources. Roko's Basilisk

  • @Lightcaller: The topic is discussed at LessWrong#Roko's_basilisk, although a stand-alone article might be possible if you can demonstrate noteworthy discussion of the concept outside of LessWrong. If you're going to write an article about anyone or anything, here are the steps you should follow:
1) Choose a topic whose notability is attested by discussions of it in several reliable independent sources. -- A casual glance on Google does pull up sources such as this, this, and this. It is also apparently discussed in this book, although the preview won't load that part for me. I have not read the sources enough to verify that they discuss Roko's Basilisk independent of LessWrong (or at least beyond LessWrong).

Hello, Gasper8. Wikipedia is not an advertising site. Lists of companies in Wikipedia generally only contain companies that are, or could be, the subject of a Wikipedia article; that is, companies that meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability. If the labels are new, it is very unlikely that they meet these criteria, because it is unlikely that they have yet been the subject of extensive coverage in independent reliable published sources. What's the procedure for improper speedy AfD closes due to nominator withdraw

I admit I probably should have been watching the AFD more closely, but Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Irfan Adelbi was closed speedily despite another editor supporting the deletion. On further review, I've found it unlikely that it would meet WP:GNG, and the keep !voters do not consider the FAQ of WP:ATH, where it explicitly says [t]he topic-specific notability guidelines described on this page do not replace the general notability guideline. I'm a little lost as to what to do now though. Do I list this at DRV? Can I just contact the nominator? Is the nominator allowed to relist the AfD? Also, I feel kinda weird asking at the Teahouse. Is there a AfD specific question board? (Though I don't imagine one would get that much traffic, so I guess I've answered my own question on that last one.) Thanks for any advice!— Alpha3031 (tc) 11:47, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi Alpha3031, according to the instructions at DRV your first step should be to contact the closer to discuss that s/he consider reverting the close. That's the simplest way to solve the matter. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 11:55, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
Gotcha. Just wanted to make sure it also applied to non-admin closes. Thanks. — Alpha3031 (tc) 11:58, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
@Alpha3031: Since this is an obviously improper close, by the nominator rather than an uninvolved editor, there is no need to bother with a DRV. You can just undo it, which I have done. – Joe (talk) 15:14, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

Help

I don't understand how am I to verify information if the information I have is all I can receive and it is reliable source. Do you actually have to be with that person, home, etc...for Wikipidea to believe your story. I am writing for Draft; Hector LaTorre/Bermudez and want those who are lost in life to see how well you can make a change to society for the greatness.

Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adelsud (talkcontribs) 14:43, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

If you want to verify information, you need to cite some professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources that are about the subject.
If you personally know the subject, then you would have a conflict of interest and should not write about the subject. Ian.thomson (talk) 14:48, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
Draft:Hector Manuel LaTorre/Bermudez in no way meets requirements for a Wikipedia article. NOT what you personally know. ONLY what you can find published citations about. David notMD (talk) 16:10, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

Question regarding handling of past behavior

Teahouse greetings! I am DrewieStewie! I hope everybody here is having a great day. Now I know this question may be a waste of time to ask and answer, but it’s something I really want closure on, and I don’t know where else to ask it, so here we go. A few days ago, I left this message on Beeblebrox’s talk page, titled “A confession I must make”. and while he deleted it after reading it, it went like this:

Hello there Beeblebrox. I am DrewieStewie. I created this account in April 2014 and made myself a part of WikiProject Professional wrestling, and as you can see, despite a few controversial statements I made that made a mountain out of a molehill, I have had a pretty good track record here on Wikipedia. Not bad for a teenage editor that joined just before he turned 13 and is entering his senior year of high school in the next 12 hours! I have made over 500 constructive edits to the encyclopedia, mostly to the said WikiProject, but also on other topics as well. A small time Wikipedian that likes to edit occasionally in his spare time. But I must make a confession. 8 years ago, I was known as User:Pixiemasters. I was a 9 year old editor that wasn't vandalizing, but I was creating very incompetent articles repeatedly (They went "Jane doe (born) is") without finishing them and making them articles, which were speedy deleted and my ignorant self back then didn't listen to everybody telling me to stop. I was then indefinitely blocked. I tried fighting my block for a long time, but I didn't listen to what I was being ask to do, and at the time I was too young to understand what to do with it. This quote sums it up well: "I'm beginning to believe that there is a maturity issue here and that WP:CIR is needed before much improvement can be expected. I'll be happy to be proven otherwise. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:50, 15 June 2012 (UTC)" In the Summer of 2012, after incompetently fighting my block for a year and a half, I was talk page blocked for a year until I became mature. When that year came, I felt that I had matured and met WP:CIR and I was about to demonstrate, when you decided that everything above was enough of a reason to revoke talk page access without letting me have my chance I was promised a year ago. While I am not upset now, as I don't hold grudges, I was mad at the time and decided to block evade, even though that didn't help my case. Eventually, in April 2014, I decided to start fresh with my current account. I had been living under this shadow for 4 and a half years, and I felt it was finally time to come clean. I am sorry for my incompetency when I was a little boy, and I am almost an adult now. I've spent 4 years evading under a new alias and I've shown that I am a good Wikipedian that way. I had to play dirty to do it, but I proved it. I'm sorry I resorted to those tactics, but I just felt it was unfair that I wasn't given that opportunity I was promised a year ago. I am not mad at you over it, that's in the past, but I at the time felt it was unfair for me. I'm admitting this because I wanted to come clean to you about it, and so that it's not hanging on me any longer. I wanted to be the bigger man and hold on to my honor and be honest. Will I be amnestied for my wrongdoings of the past and we move on, or will I be idef'd for breaking the blocking policy big time long ago? I would appreciate an amnesty please, as I feel a block is unnecessary because of the fact that I've demonstrated competence, maturity, and constructive editing since my blunders of the past, and no damage would come to the encyclopedia as a result of my presence. Thanks for listening, I truly do appreciate it. :) DrewieStewie (talk) 07:38, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

Now, I know this may be a silly issue, and that by deleting the message he may be indicating it’s okay and we can move on without any sanctions or reprecussions, but I wanted to be clean about myself and see whether or not I am still good or not here on Wikipedia, seeing what others have to say. I doubt I’ll have to be blocked for this, but I am just making sure. I truly appreciate your input. Have a wonderful day everybody :) DrewieStewie (talk) 21:56, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

I am sorry, DrewieStewie, but you have admitted block evasion, which is contrary to policy. I have blocked your account. Any appeal should be made at User talk:Pixiemasters, the talk page of your original account. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 22:12, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
I have restored your ability to edit User talk:Pixiemasters for the purpose of appealing the block, and for that purpose only. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 22:17, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
DrewieStewie - perhaps, if your appeal is successful, you could WP:CLEANSTART under DrewieStewie (as I read it, the block would first have to be lifted before you could CLEANSTART)? That way you could continue editing the more substantial contributions you've made over of the last few years instead of being chained to your nine year-old self? (And congratulations on starting your senior year.) Chetsford (talk) 22:20, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

Sorry, Robertoc3334, but Wikipedia policy prohibits the creation of pages for exposure. Unless you've already been in the news, there's no way to write an article about you sourced to reliable sources. Have you considered starting a blog or writing an autobiography? That might give you some coverage, and if it gets written about in the news, it might meet Wikipedia guidelines for inclusion. — Alpha3031 (tc) 01:50, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
Hi Robertoc3334. The short answer is that Wikipedia is not a website like Facebook or LinkedIn, etc. where you create an account to tell others all about yourself. Wikipedia articles are really only written about subject deemed to be Wikpedia notable and Wikipedia article content is only intended to really relfect what reliable sources (preferably secondary and independent) say about a subject, not what a subject says about itself. So, take a look a Wikipedia:The answer to life, the universe, and everything, Wikipedia:Notability (people), and Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing for some more information. If you're someone who is considered to be Wikipedia notable enough to have an article written about him, then perhaps someday someone will do just that. Wikipedia pretty much discourages people from writing autobiographies, but perhaps you can find someone to write an aritcle about you at Wikipedia:Requested articles. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:02, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

adding a new field to infobox church

Hello,

Can some one please guide me as how I go about adding a new field to our church wiki infobox? Many thanks, Frank — Preceding unsigned comment added by Frankdoherty (talkcontribs) 21:18, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

Hello and welcome, Frankdoherty. To add content to an article in which you have a WP:COI, you just need to post a request on the article's corresponding Talk page detailing what you'd like added using the instructions described here: Wikipedia:Simple conflict of interest edit request. To add a new parameter to the Church infobox, you need to start a discussion at Template_talk:Infobox_church, detailing your proposal. Chetsford (talk) 22:01, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
If I am understanding Frankdoherty correctly, I think they may mean adding and filling another parameter in the infobox at their church's article, presumably this one given their edits. If so, then since this thread already exists, they can simply state what needs to be done here and I or another user can do it. But yes, please respect our conflict of interest policies and guidelines. It's important to do so, including for your own continued usage of the account. —Nøkkenbuer (talkcontribs) 05:17, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

Need advice to improve Performance fabrics

Hello, Teahouse Greetings of the day! I am here to seek your help once again for suggestions and your kind advice forPerformance fabrics, copying here some recently exchanged messages for your immediate understanding of the concern.

Hi Roxy, appreciate your observations.i have added the required references to the chart, The basic difference between Fabric and Performance fabric is performance.which is enhanced in these fabrics. Don't hesitate to ask me again ThanksRajiv Sharma (talk) 17:44, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

I have moved this reply to Rajiv's talk page, where I opened the discussion. -Roxy, the dog. barcus 19:45, 11 August 2018 (UTC) Roxy, the dog. hello, I will add more sources, and for your queries 1. You asked ..So exactly what performance do you mean...and enhanced from what state? @@Performance, it is about the attributes of the fabrics totally opposite in a manner to achieve added functionalities (Interestingly these added attributes enhance the scope of use of those fabrics) @@enhance from what state....The added properties/performances do not belong originally to those fabrics but they are enhanced by different things see the definition. And properties of fabrics basically belongs to their origin and their polymers and polymer structure etc. But in this case, these properties are engineered to achieve added advantages. Examples of Polyester which is hydrophobic becomes water-loving(makes it useful for sportswear) and cotton is possible to behave water repel(You must have seen types of denim claiming rain guard, stain repel ) I tried to answer everything but you are welcome any time, don't stop asking, One last thing should we improve the definition part, please advise thanksRajiv Sharma (talk) 01:57, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

User:RAJIVVASUDEV, you have used a lot of words to say almost nothing. The only meaningful remark is that these fabrics purportedly make polyester hydrophilic, and cotton hydrophobic. Please address Roxy's concerns in a more direct way. Shock Brigade Harvester Boris (talk) 02:02, 12 August 2018 (UTC) Shock Brigade Harvester Boris (talk)Hi let me elaborate it little more without repeating what is performance and enhancement, Performance fabrics they are purposefully manufactured to meet the conditions(sometimes extreme) with a predetermined objective. The originally owned properties of those fabrics also remain important in the whole consideration. Allow me to redefine and add some more relevant sources,Drift from Nike is a more convincing example anyway thanks, Please advise me about definition part which is revised now. Thanks again. Rajiv Sharma (talk) 02:39, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

I give up. Shock Brigade Harvester Boris (talk) 02:49, 12 August 2018 (UTC)— Preceding text originally posted on User talk:Roxy the dog#Performance fabrics

I know my explanations are technical and not understandable easily, need your help and Roxy to improve the things, that is why we are here.I have added sources, hopefully more convincing and reliable. Please comment .ThanksRajiv Sharma (talk) 06:40, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

Hello RAJIVVASUDEV and welcome to the Teahouse.
I think you need to go back to the talk page of the article, at Talk:Performance fabrics and work out with other editors what sort of references should be added to the article. As best I can tell, you are inserting references that, at best, relate only tangentially to the statements that you are intending to support. If you want to improve the definition, and are finding some resistance, the talk page is also the place to put forward your suggested improvement and justify it. If you are not getting enough participation on the talk page, you may need to start an RfC or other steps to get more widespread input. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 06:55, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
RAJIVVASUDEV: the problem with your explanations of the term performance fabric is not that they're "technical and not understandable easily". It's that they're vacuous, they don't say anything.
If someone writes of a "performance car", he's probably referring to its acceleration and top speed, and not its capacity or comfort. But I've no idea what you mean by "performance fabric". Maproom (talk) 08:02, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
@RAJIVVASUDEV: I was looking to find an article named Engineered fabrics for contrast but such a page does not yet exist. A Google search indicates that this term is frequently used for fabrics that have been treated with chemical coatings to alter their characteristics. I realize that you started the Performance fabrics page a couple of years ago, but it remains problematic. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 08:58, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
Well noted all,Thanks for your adviceRajiv Sharma (talk) 09:09, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

— jmcgnh @jmcgnh you are right! actually there are few things which are recently introduced in textiles like wearable technology,e-textile, And Perfomance fabrics is one of them.henceforth information, knowledge and sources are limited, and the available information is very much confusing and misleading.I sincerely want wikipedia as an authentic source of knowledge for the concerned readers.Hopefully you got my point.ThanksRajiv Sharma (talk) 10:08, 12 August 2018 (UTC) Maproom (talk)@Maproom got your point but primarily fabrics are for comfort and protection only. Please identify and inform what are the other areas to be improved except definition?ThanksRajiv Sharma (talk) 09:58, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

R - please, no bold text. What I see at the article is that you worked on it a lot in 2015, and recently (August) lengthened it significantly. I expected to see more discussion at the Talk of the article rather than individuals' Talk pages and here at Teahouse. Please be civil. Writing "I know my explanations are technical and not understandable easily" is condescending toward the people who are/were trying to help. David notMD (talk) 11:19, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

David notMD (talk) Got it,Bold was unintentional.correcting the same and for technical and all..I was never meant like that. ThanksRajiv Sharma (talk) 12:03, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

I just discovered this. -Roxy, the dog. barcus 11:43, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi Rajiv, How are Performance Fabrics different from Technical textile, which is a page detailing various forms of clothing that are not worn for aesthetic purposes, but for a function? Kindly go over that page and revert with comments. If your content improves that page, then that's better, yeah? ModerationIsTheKey (talk) 06:16, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Need Help Hi! greetings of the day, Sir i have made few revisions and improvements,Please review the same, need help how to improve further.ThanksRajiv Sharma (talk) 04:57, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Rajiv Sharma I've moved your question from the Teahouse talk page to this page. The Teahouse talk page is for discussing things related to the running of the Teahouse; it's not really the place for posting questions such as this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:05, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
It appears that you are already discussing this at Talk:Performance fabrics#Performance fabrics with Roxy the dog. Article talk pages are usually the best places for such discussions because it makes it easier for other editors who might be interested in the subject matter to participate in the discussion. However, you need to be patient because editors occasionally get busy and might not immediately respond to your posts. Personally, although I think the changes you made were probably done in good faith, I don't think that huge image gallery you added to the article is really an improvement and actually makes the article worse than it would be without it. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:15, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
Good grief. -Roxy, the dog. barcus 11:44, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
The gallery of huge photos is gone, and the article is now being mulled over at AfD: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Performance fabrics. David notMD (talk) 20:50, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
Followers on this topic may be interested in Draft:Functional clothing. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 06:09, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
Oh dear me!. Does anybody know the difference between "Functional clothing" and non "Functional clothing"? -Roxy, the dog. barcus 06:54, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
Functional clothing is made by Carhartt, non-functional clothing is made by Versace. David notMD (talk) 11:09, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

Page Deleted - Shawn James - I can't find it in the Deleted Log

Hey folks, I'm a new editor here and I'm still learning / digging around. Thanks in advance for your help and patience.

I work with an music artist at my record label and we're trying to find his page. It disappeared around the beginning of 2017, apparently over a battle of sources. I searched the deleted log and couldn't find it. Are there other ways I can find it, or find the topic and re-open the conversation?

The topic/page is "Shawn James" (music artist or musician)

Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lukewhiteplays (talkcontribs) 20:39, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Lukewhiteplays That must have been Shawn James & The Shapeshifters. The log entries are here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Log?type=&user=&page=Shawn+James+%26+The+Shapeshifters&wpdate=&tagfilter=&wpfilters%5B%5D=thanks&wpfilters%5B%5D=patrol&wpfilters%5B%5D=tag&wpfilters%5B%5D=review --Vexations (talk) 20:51, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
But, LukeWhiteplays, before you go any further with this, please read WP:COI. It wasn't "his page", and if it ever gets created again it won't be "his page". It should be an article about him, based almost entirely on what people who have no connection with him have chosen to publish about him; and he and his associates are discouraged from editing it directly. He and his associates should not regard it as playing any role in his publicity or online presence, since they will have no control whatever over its contents. --ColinFine (talk) 23:04, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
Also read WP:PAID. The original deletion was because the article was blatant promotion, not references. David notMD (talk) 01:29, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for responding Vexations, ColineFine & David notMD. Thanks especially for the clarification on my misuse of the "his page" vernacular. Clearly that's an important distinction. I've read through the articles you suggested and found them quite helpful. However, I could use some additional clarification. Can you confirm that a page will be deleted, regardless of the relevance and non-bias nature of most of it, if some of it appears to be biased? Also, how do you make that distinction? Is it voted on by a team of your peers? Or is it considered blatant promotion because 1) it's being edited by "associates" and therefore cannot in any way be un-biased, and 2) because certain statements lack references? Thanks for your patience and time! Again, I'm new here and still learning.
Hello again, Lukewhiteplays. Any article about a musical performer must establish clearly that the performer meets our notabilty guideline for musical performers. This must be completely convincing to editors who review the article. The majority of musical performers do not qualify. Any administrator can delete an article if no credible claim of notabilty is made. If there is genuine doubt about notabilty, then the matter can be discussed for a week or more at Articles for Deletion. People directly associated with the performer financially must complete a mandatory paid editing disclosure. This is not negotiable and should be your very next edit. Paid editors must use the Articles for creation process to write a draft for review by uninvolved editors. As for adding unreferenced content, that is never a good idea, and paid editors are held to a very stringent standard. Please read and study Your first article, and follow every step described there. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:09, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
The bias issue is about need to write in a neutral point of view. See WP:NPOV. You also have a conflict of interest that requires you comply with WP:PAID. If you do not, you risk being blocked. From WP:PAID "Editors who are or expect to be compensated for their contributions must disclose their employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any paid contributions. They must do this on their main user page, or on the talk page accompanying any paid contributions, or in edit summaries...The conflict of interest guideline further advises editors to place the {{connected contributor (paid)}} template at the top of the talk page accompanying any paid contributions (and to fill in the parameters), and to supply a clearly visible list of their paid contributions on their main user page. The template {{paid}} can be used for this." — Preceding unsigned comment added by David notMD (talkcontribs) 11:28, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
