I based it on some proverb that I know (I forgot the proverb itself but I remembered the style). It is open to any interpretations and is sympathetic to both parties. The Facts, Unvarnished.
This just came to me today when I realized that, whenever I want to understand a subtle reference in a news article about a celebrity or political figure, I can almost always rely on Wikipedia to cue me in on what's not always being mentioned (so, on a whim I entered "WP:motto" in the search and found out about this section of the Project). I think the ability of the Project to avoid (or at least resist) being drug directly into PR and spin contributes to why its a valuable resource. It's almost like a compansion to the news or an antidote to the sludge of, shall we say, more POVish news agencies. Perhaps this could use a better wikilink within the wording, or none at all --I don't consider the wikilink an integral part of the motto. Bobak (talk) 18:01, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia: One Dream. Unlimited Possibilities.
I was thinking of a bacronym for my username; I think that it's pretty good. Wikipedia did start with one dream: to give a free encyclopedia to every single person on the planet in their own language, and because so many people are doing and have done so much, there are unlimited possibilities for what Wikipedia can become and what it can do in the future. Wikipedia: All rights reserved for free
Altough perhaps not entirely true (some photos are not entirely free), I think it's an okay motto, describing what Wiki offers best: free information. I don't know who created the legal term "All rights reserved." Thus Spake Anittas 00:36, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
- Neutral leaning toward oppose - The thing about Wikipedia is that most rights aren't reserved. Many of our images and the ones on commons are public domain, meaning nobody has any right to ownership on them. I kind of get what you're trying to say, but it just doesn't come out right to me.
