Hello badge

[edit]

Hi, guys. I designed a WikiHelloBadge for anyone who wants to use it at Meetups, so if people at other Meetups want to use it, feel free. The design is supposed to represent Wikipedians of every possible persuasion, at least symbolically. I made it a double image so that when you print it out, you can fold it in the middle and laminate it so that's it's double-sided (if you plan on hanging it instead of clipping it). I included spaces so that you can identify yourself by your real name, or your Wiki Username, or both, whichever you feel comfortable with. A high-res version of it is on its upload page. And if someone wants to use it at a Meetup in a location where a language other than English is spoken, feel free to modify the greeting into a different language! After all, it's in the public domain now, so all I ask is attribution! Cheers! Nightscream 06:34, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

While this is a good idea, I doubt many would use it; well I certainly would not want to walk around the city with such a badge on me... Phgao 13:05, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

These three have been blocked as socks and for making multiple legal threats. Sarah 03:19, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comments

[edit]

Um, should I spam everyone on the Melbourne list with the link to come here if they are interested? Phgao 10:05, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, go for it. pfctdayelise (talk) 11:09, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
<<spam finished>> I tried not to spam anyone who had already posted on here. Phgao 03:33, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Much appreciated. --Michael Billington (talk) 07:21, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

how do i send this to others here in melb? Ta T.--T3Smile 09:07, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just give other people the URL in an email? pfctdayelise (talk) 14:37, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, a notice has been placed on the Watchlist of Wikipedians in the geographic region around Melbourne. As with any technical solution, this notice may not work correctly, so please do discuss this with fellow Wikipedians who may be interested in attending. John Vandenberg 09:21, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How do you do that? My ip address got an invite of sorts to this page. Does it mean all Melbourne ips would get the message? Phgao 06:20, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It works off the online databases that are maintained with geographic data about each IP block. See this. IP blocks often serve the same region for a very long time, so the databases are rarely out of sync for the major ISPs. John Vandenberg 12:47, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah that's very interesting! Phgao 20:05, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wanna come, but too young..way to young. BatterBean 23:01, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All ages are welcome, if you can talk a parental unit into coming. :) --pfctdayelise (talk) 14:37, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Lmao, I don't think they want a 13 year old going to a meeting with a bunch of stranger. Lol... BatterBean 11:26, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think you might be onto something there. Not that it matters to me: I'm probably not inclined to go. Too geeky..way to geeky. --lincalinca 02:13, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Lmao, oh well, I just want to see what it is about. BatterBean 13:54, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dude, if you spend this much time on Wikipedia, you should be past the point of being embarrassed about being geeky. --pfctdayelise (talk) 03:05, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was joking by tying in BB's comment. I'd probably come if I didn't have a family, a band, a job and many other things to attend to. --lincalinca 03:09, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey thats cool, u gave me a nickname, ahahahahahahahahahha "BB". Pritty good, pritty good. BatterBean 14:27, 6 November 2007
You talking about me or Linca dude ^o) BatterBean 14:10, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
BatterBean? Monkeyblue 10:06, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just a query -- what is the purpose of the meetup? I really don't see what it achieves. Thanks, Monkeyblue 10:08, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Meet some of the people you edit alongside each day, talk wiki with people who will know what you're talking about. Try and form a Wikimedia Australia chapter. If you don't think you would find any of those things useful then naturally I would expect you not to attend. It's not compulsory or anything. --pfctdayelise (talk) 13:19, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, one exam to go after 18th. Should be able to make it. Phgao 06:31, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK. So it is social focused rather than something else? OK, sounds interesting. Monkeyblue 09:50, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Let me put it this way; I don't think it will be all work and no play nor will it be all social talk and no discussion of issues pertinent to Wikipedia/Australia's Wikipedia Foundation... Phgao 11:17, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The main thing is to discuss forming an Australian Chapter of the foundation, Wikimedia Australia. Plus the opportunity to meet and chat with other editors. Sarah 11:23, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, ah that's the word(s) I was looking for.... *sigh* Wikimedia Australia Phgao 11:25, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I wasn't able to get there this time. Metamagician3000 (talk) 07:42, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
