"Diamonds " is a song recorded by Barbadian singer Rihanna (pictured) , digitally released on September 27, 2012, from her seventh studio album, Unapologetic . The song was written and produced by Benny Blanco and StarGate and co-written by Sia Furler . A mid-tempo electronic and pop ballad , it features heavy synthesizers , orchestral sounds and electronic rhythms. "Diamonds" topped music charts in over twenty countries, including the United States, where it became Rihanna's twelfth number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 , tying her for fifth place for total number one singles on that chart with Madonna and The Supremes . The song was certified five-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America . By May 2013, it had sold over 7.5 million copies worldwide, becoming one of the best-selling singles of all time . The song's music video was praised by critics for its imagery, depicting Rihanna in scenes representing the elements of earth, air, water and fire.
