Glad to be of some small service to Wikipedia

[edit]

As a young girl of 7, I read the World Book Encyclopedia cover to cover in the wee small hours of each morning. Hence, a lifelong passion for Encyclopedic knowledge, no matter what the topic.

Now at 60 with plenty of semi-retired time, I find myself using WIKIPEDIA on a daily basis and it behooves me to begin to contribute in a small way.

Since there isn't a topic of human history, literature, behavior, science, biography, that doesn't hold some interest to me, I look forward to being part of a fascinating project. It's like being a part of the Human Genome Project and this new encyclopediast has a stub or two to offer.

I have never seen such a gross over usage of linking pages as I have found in this project. Its just link-link-link-link-link-link-link-link-link-link carried to the ridiculous.

Minnesota Valley Humane Society

[edit]

The Minnesota Valley Humane Society was founded in 1981 by a small group of compassionate South Metro residents to care for the growing number of stray and homeless animals in the area. It had no facility other than volunteers' homes.

Then, thanks to a series of volunteer-driven fundraising events, many years of hard work and a benefactor, MVHS was able to purchase the vacant former Burnsville city hall, police station and fire department building located in Burnsville on 1313 Highway 13 East. The Sheltor's doors opened in that facility in 1991.

Since then, the Minnesota Valley Humane Society has become the third largest animal humane organization in the Twin Cities area and one of the emerging leaders in the national animal welfare movement. It is now the "neighborhood" companion animal shelter for residents of the communities of Burnsville, Eagan, Apple Valley, Lakeville and Bloomington, and the shelter of choice for people within a radius averaging nearly 25 miles.

This service area reaches parts of western St. Paul, South Minneapolis, Edina, Richfield, Prior Lake, Shakopee, Savage, Jordan, Hastings, Rosemount and Northfield. Many customers and volunteers, even though they live much closer to other animal sheltors, say it is MVHS's reputiation and character that draw to it.

One key distinction of MVHS is that it helps any companion animal in need. Veterinary care and/or rehabilitation is provided, and every animal suitable for adoption finds a home. Of the 5,000 humane society organizations in the United States, MVHS is one of only a small number that can make this claim. It has achieved on of the highest adoption rates of all humane organizations in the nation. Since just 1991 to June 3rd of 2006 MVHS has completed 40,000 adoptions, and accurate records of adoption numbers are not available from 1981 to 1991.

The Mission of the Minnesota Valley Humane Society

"To prevent and alleviate animal suffering through shelter, adoption, education, collaboration and community outreach; and to strengthen the relationships between people and companion animals."

[edit]

Hi all! I've been using Wikipedia extensively for the last two years or so. This place is the starting point for pretty much anything I need to look up online. I think the whole idea of having an open source encyclopedia is awesome. This truly is a perfect example of the collaborative power of the world at large. I firmly believe that this is, at this point of time, the closest we have come to the idea of compiling the net sum of human knowledge and sharing it.

There is so much I've managed to learn on this site... I think it's time to give something back to the community. I've started making my edits and creating pages and hope to keep doing so, circumstances willing, for a long time. I have a wide variety of interests, so this place should keep me very busy indeed.

Please feel free to get in touch with me for anything.

hi all.

i am passionately interested in the non-dual doctrine of ajata, which means 'not [or never] created', and was most recently and powerfully espoused by Sri Ramana Maharshi who lived in south India until his death in 1950.

i am interested in communicating with others who may be familiar with this point of view, especially if they have experienced it directly. i am fairly low-tech when it comes to computers, but if it proves to be easy to do, i'd like to collaborate with someone on an artical on this topic.

thanks for reading my intro,

How does a language die?

[edit]
First, I am not an expert on this subject. It just caught my curiosity. I am a high school teacher and I teach two subjects in High school related to the Social Sciences.
The Sumerians were the first community of Homo Sapiens Sapiens who created the first human civilization in a place which Alexander the Great called Mesopotamia, now Iraq.
They were the first people who invented the first system of writing called Cuneiform and they existed in that area at around 5000 B.C. We know that the cuneiform is a combination of elongated triangles or wedges, unfortunately we do not know how this ancient system of writing is read.
Of course, All the other ancient civilizations in Mesopotamia are now long gone. With the Sumerians, the Akkadians, the Babylonians, the Hittites who experts say were the first people who invented or discoverd Iron, then the Chaldeans and the Persians at the end of the line.
An expert told me that the Latin Language, that which was used in ancient Rome was also already dead and the people who use it are also now gone. In place of the Latin

emerged the Italian, the Spanish, the Portuguese and the other Languages which are being used by present day people who evolved from the vicinity of the area once controlled by the Roman empire.

How do languages evolve and how do they die?
Is it possible to see or speak of a common global language one time in the future?

What language would that be? Would humans still be humans when that time comes?

Hi, I'm Dragonlady7, I'm a total douche bag whore with no life. no1 likes me and the 1 of the reasons is b/c i have herpes spread around my yeast infection by my pussy. I douche every night and pretend to have sex but no1 wants to fuck me themselves. I'm very white and my rib bones show and i hate all the mother fucking hot porn star chicks who are so hot. I'm so much better than them!! WAY COOLER AND SEXYIER! im a hot chick :) YAY! My particular areas of interest include pre-Medieval Europe, especially the British Isles and Scandinavia, from the Paleolithic on up to the fall of the Roman empire. I am also really into dinosaurs, though that's something I've been less well-read on since, well, puberty. (When I was a toddler I was pretty much a leading world expert on woolly mammoths, but that was a while ago, and of course I'm speaking relatively.)

I've studied Spanish, Gaelic, Latin (Classical only), and Medieval Welsh, but am not fluent in any of them.

I also skate on a local roller derby team under the moniker B-17 (named for the WWII bomber), so I may have something to contribute to that area, as roller derby becomes more widely interesting.

I don't know what I can contribute to Wikipedia, but now I have an account, just in case I ever find myself with the time to do anything with it. :)

I have been using Wikipedia for a while and decide to stop just being a lurker. I have found the content to be very useful and reliable. Found a few clarifications and a broken link to fix. Hopefully, I will get major/minor edit flags set correctly. Also, just started my own wiki for my own personal genealogical data. Seems to be a great use for the technology.

I have written a blog, which I try to have published here. Look at the topic above! Please pray for me! Despite the fact that I have had technical experiences I am almost lost here in this site!
