[edit]Afd nominator !votes
[edit]I can't find the relevant page on this... is it appropriate for an AfD nominator to also make a !vote to keep, delete or redirect? --- Possibly ☎ 02:24, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Possibly: I think the page you want for background is WP:!VOTE. It's a little confusing, but the thing to remember that it's not a vote count that determines the fate of an article, but instead a careful consideration of the arguments. I personally have never typed !vote until this response, and I've been editing for 12 years and have participated in hundreds of Afd discussions. I just put Comment in front of subsequent comments, when responding to new comments. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 03:53, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks. I think my use of "not vote" muddled my question. Just to be clear, I meant to ask: is it appropriate for the nominator to also vote Delete? --- Possibly ☎ 04:03, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- No, because the nomination is effectively a delete !vote in and of itself. —A little blue Bori v^_^v Jéské Couriano 04:40, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Jéské Couriano: thank you, that was also my thinking but I wanted to confirm. --- Possibly ☎ 06:32, 13 October 2021 (UTC)

Please help re reference number 12 - I have put the page number in the wrong place. Please leave in quote, sorry 49.3.146.151 (talk) 00:28, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- Fixed. You needed page=316, instead of page 316. RudolfRed (talk) 01:13, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
Self-promotion
[edit]I've tagged User:Young YNR's userpage for speedy deletion. Is there anything else I need to do? I'm not 100% sure whether the username qualifies for deletion (no actual Young YNR footprint out there), or how to go about it if it does. Clarityfiend (talk) 01:10, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
Hi...
[edit]I'd really like to edit this page about red pandas,but I can't edit it because it's "Semi-protected". So I'd really, really like to know what that means and what do I need to do to edit a Semi-protected page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mint tin 5506 (talk • contribs) 01:40, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Mint tin 5506: Hi there! At the top right corner of the Red panda article is a gray lock icon. When you click on it, "Semi-protected pages cannot be edited by ... accounts that are not autoconfirmed (accounts that are at least four days old and have made at least ten edits to Wikipedia) or confirmed." You can wait four days and make ten edits to other articles, or you can post your suggestions/concerns about the Red panda article to its talk page: Talk:Red panda (with reliable sources, if possible. Hope this helps, and happy editing! (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this:
~~~~
. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.) GoingBatty (talk) 03:08, 13 October 2021 (UTC) - If you do 4 more edits before October 17, your account will be autoconfirmed on that day. Then you can edit that page directly. 50829! (talk) 04:56, 16 October 2021 (UTC)
Editing peer review submission template
[edit]Often, an editor submits a peer review for an article they wish to take to FAC. The guidance for requesting such a review says to also list it on Template:FAC peer review sidebar. However, I've seen several editors request a pre-FAC peer review without also listing the review on the sidebar template. I looked at the request steps, which says to #1. Add
, which displays a notice. The user will then {{subst:PR}}
to the top of the article's talk page and save it#2. Click within the notice to create a new peer review discussion page
and #3. Complete the new page as instructed.
So, I figured when an editor is on step #3, I could insert a notice in the instructions, saying to add the review to the sidebar if they are going for FAC. But I looked at Template:PR and I honestly can't make heads or tails of the code. I know there is some sort of template that the editor auto-substitutes when they first open a peer review (for example, see the first edit for 2018 Pacific hurricane season's PR); I would like to edit it to leave said notice, but I haven't a clue which template it actually is. Can anyone provide some pointers? Zetana (talk) 07:02, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- I think you need to edit Template:Peer_review/editintro but, please, first propose any new wording for the discussion on Wikipedia talk:Peer review. Ruslik_Zero 20:35, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, thank you for digging into it. I see someone else has already put a notice there, so nevermind then. Zetana (talk) 19:33, 14 October 2021 (UTC)
Novel
[edit]Pour Out. Pour Out is a story about Erts Bant a boy who's false is that he can't make a fire. After a visiting the Circus he soon descovers that he can shoot fire from he's mouth, this ability soon cause Erts and he's friends to go on crazy and bizarre adventures. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dëmenssion (talk • contribs) 07:07, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- If the novel meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability - roughly, that several people unconnected with it have published material about it - then somebody could write an article about it. That could be you Dëmenssion but be aware that creating a new article is a very very difficult task for inexperienced editors. If you're intersted in trying, see YFA. --ColinFine (talk) 09:04, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
Regarding the article on Matt Cornett
[edit]Despite being an actor for 10 years, the team didn't include a picture of Matt Cornett. Pls add so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Siddhuk20021 (talk • contribs) 09:49, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- Siddhuk20021 Adding a picture is not always easy, as the copyright of any picture must permit its use on Wikipedia. See WP:UPIMAGE for more information. 331dot (talk) 09:57, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
Adding icon in a "Portal"
[edit]Hello, I am Dawnpope and I want to know how to add an icon in a Portal in Wikipedia as I have created a Portal on Vaishnavism but still can't find a way to do so. Please let me know about this Dawnpope (talk) 12:01, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
Accusations
[edit]I was hoping to get some more experienced editors to take a look at this [1] and see whether it is appropriate to include at this time. Remember (talk) 16:37, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- I have rolled back those edits, Remember. Two of the sources listed are shown on WP:RSNP as "No consensus, with advice against using them for exceptional claims, and the third does not mention the issue. I said in my edit summary that consensus should be gained at the article's talk page before reinserting that material. --ColinFine (talk) 17:07, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you! I wasn't sure what was the correct thing. Remember (talk) 17:41, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- No problem, Remember. In fact, {BRD says that anybody may revert any edit that they think is not constructive. --ColinFine (talk)
- I know. But I thought this could get into an edit war given the nature of the edit and I wanted to make sure I was on solid ground for removing. Remember (talk) 18:06, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
Weasel words and updating review
[edit]Hello all we have been trying to fix my profile lots of contributors- and can't seem to get rid of the weasel work warning- and also the site crashes when we try to add a photo. Can you please help us? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.74.106.34 (talk) 18:08, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- We don't have any profiles in Wikipedia; not a single one. What we do have, is articles.
- Who are you?
- What is the title of the article you are asking about?
- Who are the "we" and "us" and "lots of contributors" that you are talking about? --Orange Mike | Talk 18:41, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- Also, what is the process you are using to add a photo, and what is the exact error message you are receiving? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 19:04, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- You cannot upload images if you don't have an account, so that would explain that. The rest of this question is far to sparse on details. The IP is in the same town I live in and I'd be happy to try and help, but this is just far to vague to provide any real guidance. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:53, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
How do I update the following
[edit]How do I update the following URL: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_Marcario 67.49.93.29 (talk) 18:21, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
You can also submit suggestions on the article talk page: Talk:Rose Marcario. For help learning how to edit, see Help:Introduction and WP:The Wikipedia Adventure. Hope this helps, and happy editing! Deleting CSS user subpages
[edit]Hi, I have some CSS subpages that I'd like to delete because I don't have any use for them anymore, but I can't put {{Db-g7}} on them because they are in CSS, so what should I do? Halbast1 (talk) 21:01, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- That's a good question. I would suggest that WP:VPT may be a more likely place to get an answer. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:54, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Halbast1: Template:Db-g7#CSS and Javascript pages explains how to do it. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:46, 14 October 2021 (UTC)
If it's the first time...why have I seen this 5 other Wednesdays
[edit]This is easily the 5th time I have seen this request for donation... The first time I donated. How can I stop it, I want to donate again one day, but the window and pop-up keeps getting me frustrated. Why would anyone support if we can't even set a decent API that tells users it is NOT unique?
Regards Banzaiiiii — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.90.107.18 (talk) 21:09, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- The donation banner cannot tell you apart from other users on the same IP (most IPs are dynamically allocated and so are not used by any one person for any significant length of time). —A little blue Bori v^_^v Jéské Couriano 21:12, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- But if you create an account and log in, you can set your preferences to not show the banner. --ColinFine (talk) 21:32, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
User Page for Andrewincowtown
[edit]After ten years, my User Page was just deleted.
First, "Theroadislong" Theroadislong marked the page for speedy deletion - an action taken "under section U5". So, I promptly thanked him and changed the User Page, making it only one sentence long.
Then, "Anthony Bradbury" User:Anthony Bradbury deleted the page and left this message: (U5: Misuse of Wikipedia as a web host)
Please help. I will happily conform my User Page to Wiki guidelines, but I thought the latest version - one sentence long - was in compliance.
Best wishes, Andrewincowtown (talk) 22:01, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- Andrewincowtown Please see WP:USERPAGE for information on what is considered (and not) acceptable user page content. Your user page should primarily tell about yourself as a Wikipedia editor or user. As I can view deleted pages as an administrator, I can say that the final version was much improved over the initial one, but I can still see why it was deleted. 331dot (talk) 22:22, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- Andrewincowtown A big part of the problem with the way your userpage was structured was that you referred to yourself in 3rd person, making it seem like an article about you, or a resume or something. If you want to convey, say, that you have expertise in a field due to having a degree or having worked in that field, it's better to say something along the lines of (for example), "I primarily edit in the field of astrophysics. As a professor of astrophysics at X university I have access to journals and scholorly research in that field." ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 22:29, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- If you want someone to rage quit wikipedia then deleting their user page is a good way to do it.
- I have no link or knowledge of this editor. I was updating the help page and saw this, because I am interested in the use of WE in academic papers,
- a/ The editor referring to themselves in the 3rd person is not a normal style,. But the article we has it as a possible usage.
- The user page does not meet U5 Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#U5. Blatant misuse of Wikipedia as a web host is
- "Pages in userspace consisting of writings, information, discussions, or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals, WHERE the owner has made FEW OR NO EDIT outside of user pages ..
- =The process has not been followed
- ==Read Wikipedia:User pages#Handling inappropriate content
- "The best option if there is a concern with a user's page is to draw their attention to the matter via their talk page and let them edit it themselves, if they are agreeable. In some cases a more experienced editor may make substantive edits to another user's user space, in which case that editor should leave a note explaining why this was done. This should not be done for trivial reasons. If the user does not agree, or does not effectively remedy the concerns, or the matter is unsure or controversial, then other steps in this section can be taken including uninvolved user opinions or proposing the page for deletion
- = = Wikipedia:User pages#Deletion of user pages
- "In general, other users' user pages are managed by that user. Except for blatant or serious matters, it is preferable to try contacting the user before deletion (see above). However, unambiguous copyright violations, attack pages, promotional text, and privacy or BLP violations can be speedy deleted using a suitable template, such as {{db-attack}}, {{db-copyvio}} or {{db-spamuser}}; other pages likely to require deletion (or where remedial action is not taken) may be submitted to deletion discussion.
- Take special care to speak appropriately and explain the concern; many users will take it as a personal affront or attack if an unknown user announces they are going to delete a userspace image or page and an uncivil or heavy duty approach can discourage new users who are unaware of expectations and might enjoy contributing. Remember that a limited amount of personal information (perhaps a short biography) and a freely licensed tasteful personal photograph or two are usually allowed if the page reasonably complies with other requirements." Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 01:15, 14 October 2021 (UTC)
Thank you, that is all very helpful. Best wishes, Andrewincowtown (talk) 22:32, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
I gave it another try, in line with your suggestions. Thank you for your time and advice.
Reporting Vandal of RuPaul's Drag Race (season 4)
[edit]A user has come along to vandalize this page and make it false - DollyaMaddelynnHeartbreak. Is there a more efficient way to report this? I tried to undo it.
- The relevant policy page (with how-to) is at WP:Vandalism#How to respond to vandalism. In short, if you're certain, revert the vandalism, warn the responsible party, and report to WP:Administrator intervention against vandalism if they continue. If the page is subject to vandalism or disruptive editing long-term by different users, there is also WP:Requests for page protection. – Anon423 (talk) 10:45, 16 October 2021 (UTC)
