[edit]Merge WikiData entries
[edit]I was trying to link fi:Luokka:Ilmestymästä lakanneet suomalaiset aikakauslehdet with Category:Defunct magazines published in Finland but WikiData wouldn't let me, saying they were two separate WikiData entries (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q25224902 and https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q9926582). WikiData said the entries should be merged, but I still don't know how to actually do it. Merging entries on WikiData is still far too difficult for me. Could anyone help me by providing step-by-step instructions? JIP | Talk 00:39, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- @JIP: I suggest reviewing the documentation at Wikidata, such as d:Help:Merge. Hope this helps, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 00:46, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- I tried to use the Special Merge Tool. It failed right from the start. The error message was:
- Failed to merge Items, please resolve any conflicts first.
- Error: Conflicting descriptions for language he.
- Neither of the entries seems to have any description in the Hebrew language (what I assume "language he" means). Merging two WikiData entries still seems to be far too difficult. JIP | Talk 00:59, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- Apparently they do after all. I don't understand any Hebrew. Perhaps I'll just remove the Hebrew descriptions or copy-paste one to the other. With my luck, it will complain about some other language after that. JIP | Talk 01:01, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- I've done the merge. * Pppery * it has begun... 01:26, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks. For future reference, did this involve using the Special Merge Tool after fixing all the conflicting descriptions or did you do it in some other way? JIP | Talk 01:28, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- I used labelLister (a non-default gadget on Wikidata) to remove the conflicting Hebrew description, and then used the standard merge tool. There were no other conflicting descriptions. * Pppery * it has begun... 01:42, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- According to Google translate the he descriptions were Category page and Category in Wikipedia, so presumably the longer one was correct. By the way, sv:Kategori:Nedlagda finländska tidskrifter merged without problems. TSventon (talk) 01:46, 14 November 2021 (UTC)

Contacting editors
[edit]Where does one go to invoke or appeal to an editor for actions by another editor, e.g., being banned or ending a revision war? 2601:14A:503:64C0:D9FA:8D4F:AFFD:63A7 (talk) 14:57, 14 November 2021 (UTC) Formerly user ileanadu.
- Hi there! Banned users should follow the instructions on their user talk page if they want to appeal a block or ban (which I don't see on User talk:Ileanadu). For revision wars, start a discussion on the article's talk page to develop consensus. Hope this helps, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 17:04, 14 November 2021 (UTC)

- Hi Linda! When using a newspaper article as a source, you don't need to upload the article - you can cite it instead. It is common to use {{cite news}} for this, but you can also format it manually by providing the newspaper name, article name, date, page number, etc. See WP:EASYREFBEGIN for more details.
- However, you should not edit any article about a family member because it is a conflict of interest. Instead, you can post a suggestion on the article's talk page with the {{request edit}} template to have another editor evaluate your suggestion. Or, you can use the Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard. Hope this helps, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 03:27, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- We do not currently have an article on Mr. Catalano. Are you trying to start one? If so, please be aware that WP is not a memorial site: see WP:MEMORIAL. It is instead an Encyclopedia. Each of our articles must be about a notable subject. If Mr. Catalano is not notable by our definition, we cannot support an article about him. See WP:N. You can probably find a more suitable place on the Internet for this information. -Arch dude (talk) 04:24, 14 November 2021 (UTC)

Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Faisal Alkheriji (talk • contribs) 10:11, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- Faisal Alkheriji, the deletion of Draft:Faisal Alkheriji was accompanied by this message: "Unambiguous advertising or promotion: self written vanity page, see WP:YFA WP:RS WP:COI WP:Notability (people)". Twice. Do you have any questions about WP:YFA, WP:RS, WP:COI, or WP:Notability (people)? -- Hoary (talk) 12:25, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
I can't delete my file what I uploaded by accident
[edit]By accident I uploaded a custom flag, I tried to do something and then wanted to delete the file, but I can do it, i am sitting here for 1 hour, and searching how to delete it, I cant, please delete this file: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:K%C3%B6z%C3%A9pf%C3%B6ldi_N%C3%A9pk%C3%B6zt%C3%A1rsas%C3%A1g.jpg — Preceding unsigned comment added by YugoslavPower (talk • contribs) 15:05, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- Only admins can delete a file or a page, on Wikipedia or Commons, YugoslavPower. But on the Commons page you linked to, there's an option in the sidebar "Nominate for deletion". --ColinFine (talk) 15:16, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
I clicked on it, but nothing happend — Preceding unsigned comment added by YugoslavPower (talk • contribs) 15:24, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- The file is now tagged for speedy deletion, YugoslavPower Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:05, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- @YugoslavPower: Clicking "Nominate for deletion" should open a new window. You may want to make sure your browser isn't blocking pop-ups for commons.wikimedia.org. Hope this helps, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 17:07, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
Personal
[edit]How can I create a Wikipedia page for myself without paying hundreds of dollars. I am terminally ill and don't have a lot of time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.215.151.41 (talk) 16:54, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, you probably don't. WP:AUTO strongly discourages autobiographies. Creating a new article is one of the hardest things to do on Wikipedia, especially when you have a conflict of interest (COI). To learn how to edit, you could view Help:Introduction and The Wikipedia Adventure. You would then gather independent reliable sources that have provided significant coverage of you, and determine whether you meet Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, called "notability". If so, you could create an account and declare your COI on your user page. Then follow the instructions at Help:Your first article, and be prepared for a process that would include months of waiting, rejections, and rewrites, before an article is created. If you are successful, then you could never edit the article directly due to your COI. Hope this helps. GoingBatty (talk) 17:15, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hello IP, Wikipedia doesn't ask for money for creating an article on someone. It all depends upon how much notable you are that you get a page on yourself created. And, that's neither about the money nor about the subject's own request. Lightbluerain❄ (Talk | contribs) 17:18, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- Also, companies that ask for money in exchange for promising to creating an article about you are likely to be a scam. GoingBatty (talk) 17:30, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- Paying hundreds of dollars isn't going to help you get a Wikipedia article. If you are notable enough, someone will come along and create an article about you for completely free. Anyone who asks you for money to create a Wikipedia article about you is a scammer and is going to cheat you. Stay well away from them. JIP | Talk 18:18, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- I'm sorry for your illness. But Wikipedia is not a memorial site: it is an encyclopaedia, which records subjects which meet its own definition of notability - broadly, that they have been written about by people who have no connection with them, and published in reliable sources. Unless you meet those criteria, then there will not be an article about you, any more than there will about me. Sorry. --ColinFine (talk) 19:54, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
