[edit]Vandalism help request from 2600:1702:3E80:8A60:CD74:5B0B:FF:8235
[edit]I have noticed some vandalism at Acropolis. Namely, the vandal replaced relevant information with memes. Would an editor please assist me with fixing it? Thank you, 2600:1702:3E80:8A60:CD74:5B0B:FF:8235 (talk) 03:35, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Editing my page
[edit]I have edited my page previously, and I wanted to find the changes to my writings, but only to find that they were still the same. I later found out that they appeared on another wikipedia page but still under my account. My expectation was that when I edit a document it will automatically change. Is this okay?Wbetkwa (talk) 11:44, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- Wbetkwa I'm not clear on what you are asking. The only page you have ever edited according to your contribution history is your user page. What page were you trying to edit? Did you do so while logged out, perhaps? 331dot (talk) 12:15, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- Your edits are at Special:Contributions/Wbetkwa and your user page is User:Wbetkwa. Your changes are all reflected in the current version of the page. If you see an old version then bypass your cache. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:45, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Help Needed if my first written article is publishable
[edit]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Rupesh_Suradkar
Above is the article I have drafted and wanted to know as does it stand to the standard or not. I am a first-time editor of Wikipedia articles. I may or may not delete the page. But I will surely edit the page once I am much versed in the editing process of Wikipedia articles. just let me know what corrections are needed in the article. Rupeshlotsblue (talk) 12:47, 15 February 2021 (UTC)RupeshlotsblueRupeshlotsblue (talk) 12:47, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- Rupeshlotsblue Wikipedia is not a place for people to tell the world about themselves, sorry. Wikipedia is only interested in what independent reliable sources say about you, not what you want to say about yourself. Please see the autobiography policy. 331dot (talk) 13:18, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- Rupeshlotsblue, the draft has been speedily deleted by an administrator for
[u]nambiguous advertising or promotion
, as Wikipedia is not a place for promotion. If you were writing about yourself that's also an issue; it would not have been prohibited, but strongly discouraged. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 13:28, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Wikipedia content on Lulu.com
[edit]I have read several help articles, but it is not clear (to me) how to proceed if an article appears to have been used in a published book without attribution. The text of Frédéric Bazille has been used, mostly verbatim, in the book Frederic Bazille: 66 Paintings and Drawings, (self-)published by Lulu.com. The article has developed gradually, through the input of many editors since 2002; the book was published in 2014. The author, Maria Tsaneva, has dozens of these books, published 2013–2015, and selling for $1.99. How does one proceed with this? Leschnei (talk) 15:35, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- I'm no expert, but probably the Foundation would need to know about this. 331dot (talk) 15:49, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Leschnei: Wikipedia:Mirrors_and_forks#Non-compliance_process mostly applies, even though it is mostly intended for online copyvios. Long story short: there are many of them and the WMF does not hold legal standing to pursue copyright claims (and presumably does not intend to help editors pursue theirs). - I'm not an editor of the page, so I'm not personally affected. I just wondered if I should let someone know. Thanks for the insight. Leschnei (talk) 16:46, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- Some publishers take copyvio from Wikipedia seriously Leschnei, as in the example noted at WT:WikiProject_Chemistry#Plagiarism_in_Elsevier_book. However, for a self-published book I don't think there is much that can be done. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:03, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- That's a very interesting read. I don't have access to the full book (and I'm not willing to spend $1.99!), so it is possible that it mentions Wikipedia on a page that is not available in the preview. I shouldn't cast aspersions without having all of the facts. Leschnei (talk) 18:34, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

- @Leschnei: I see nothing to prevent you from adding a review of this book at Lulu.com. You can find it with a google search that includes lulu.com and the name of the book. I cannot provide the link here because we blacklist links to lulu. Your review can state your concern. -Arch dude (talk) 18:41, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Leschnei. I have made a number of copyright infringement claims for my own writing here. It doesn't always work but occasionally it has. You're right, without being able to see the book, to in turn check whether they're providing suitable credit under the free license (sometimes licenses) we agree our submission are released under, there's no way to know whether a claim is appropriate. When I've done this for paper books, I started with the text of the Wikipedia:Standard CC-BY-SA violation letter and Wikipedia:Standard license violation letter and tailored for the context. Certainly it would be useful to have a page dedicated to example infringement claims directed at paper sources, and link to that from the compliance page linked above. (I might try my hand at that some time). Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 20:19, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- I think that would be a very useful resource. Leschnei (talk) 23:44, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

- I've added a message at Talk:Frédéric Bazille along with a link to this discussion, in case any of the editors who have actually edited the page want to pursue it. Leschnei (talk) 00:02, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
Mid size pick-up truck
[edit]I presently own a 2004 Dodge Dakota club cab pick-up truck 4x4. It's been a wonderful truck but it's starting to show it's age. I'm looking to get something the same (used). I was disappointed to learn that the Dakota was discontinued in 2011. What should I be looking for around the same size I had? I'm a short female, so the big trucks are out for me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.124.40.172 (talk) 16:31, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Help for publishing a translated page
[edit]Hello everyone, I have translated this page from french to english. What should I do to publish this article? Thanks in advance,

- Hi Sinarchi. Copy and paste this at the top of the draft and save
{{subst:submit}}
. Doing so will submit the draft for review at articles for creation. Please be patient – it can take up to about three months, given the project's current backlog, for drafts to be reviewed. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 19:36, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
RE: 'Forgot my password' doesn't work
[edit]I can't remember my password so I clicked 'Forgot my password', but I never get an email to reset my password. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:4B00:A402:9300:C056:2D2F:2DEA:2601 (talk) 20:18, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- 2A01:4B00:A402:9300:C056:2D2F:2DEA:2601, try doing it again. Make sure that you haven't mistyped either your username or your email. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 22:03, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- Do you know that you have mail enabled, and are using an email address to which you currently have access? If you tell me your username I can check to make sure you have an email address and send you a notice to make sure you get it. S Philbrick(Talk) 22:22, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Editing interface
[edit]Hello, when I try to edit, it shows the preview and the editing box at the bottom. How do I switch it to the other enhanced interface that doesn't show the preview and allows for automatic citations, etc? Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 20:58, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- @EDG 543: I'm not sure what you refer to but maybe you want Wikipedia:VisualEditor. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:15, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- @PrimeHunter: No, that's not it. I used to click on the "edit button" and I would just be in the editor, with the Publish Changes button in the top right corner. Now, my editor is below a preview of the page with the Publish Changes button down below the editor. I really don't know how to fix it. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 21:29, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) @EDG 543: Like PrimeHunter pointed out, you may be looking for the VisualEditor, which can be activated in your Preferences. Go to the Editing tab and uncheck "Temporarily the visual editor while it is in beta". Note that this editor only works naturally for pages in certain namespaces, like the mainspace,

. Conversely, you may be talking about the 2017 wikitext editor? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 21:33, 15 February 2021 (UTC)- VisualEditor and the 2017 wikitext editor both have a "Publish changes" button at the top right. The latter is enabled at "New wikitext mode" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:39, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- @PrimeHunter and Tenryuu: Thank you both! I fixed the issue. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 21:45, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Images in hyperlinks
[edit]I know I was here recently, but I seem to can't find an exact answer to this question. Why is it that some hyperlinks (I'm referring to when you hover over a blue link and you're given a snippet of the article, whatever those are called) appear with an image and others don't? For example, Paper Mario: Color Splash has an image and Paper Mario: Sticker Star doesn't. And, is there any way to override this? Panini🥪 21:23, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Panini!: I don't see an image for either link. Maybe you have Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation_popups enabled in your preferences? RudolfRed (talk) 21:29, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- Panini!, you are referring to the image in the little popup when the link is hovered over, right? Firstly, for me, neither of your Mario wikilinks displays an image in the popup... But no, I'm pretty sure there is nothing you can do about that. The image pops up sometimes, sometimes it doesn't. Another editor may know better than me, though. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 21:32, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Panini!: I can see images in both, and I'm using Navigation popups. Are you using that as well, or just Page preview? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 21:34, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
