[edit]Is the Italian date in this article in reference number 7 all wrong? - it is in red. Please fix. Thanks Srbernadette (talk) 00:19, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- Hello @Srbernadette:, I have fixed both references: Please use English-language month names in date parameters. And date ranges need an endash instead of a hyphen as separator. GermanJoe (talk) 00:29, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
HTML attributes for combining two colours within a single table cell
[edit]Hi there. I am editing an article that documents the rolling stock (trains) of Singapore's rapid transit system. There are two lines on the system that share the same infrastructure, down to the rolling stock, tracks, depots, and signalling systems - so to avoid duplication and excessively lengthening the table, I would like to merge these two:
Line | Generation | Stock | Supplier |
---|---|---|---|
North South Line | 1st | C151 | Kawasaki Heavy Industries |
2nd | C651 | Siemens | |
3rd | C751B | Kawasaki Heavy Industries & Nippon Sharyo | |
4th | C151A | Kawasaki Heavy Industries & CRRC Qingdao Sifang | |
5th | C151B | ||
6th | C151C | ||
7th | CR151 | Bombardier |
Line | Generation | Stock | Supplier |
---|---|---|---|
East West Line | 1st | C151 | Kawasaki Heavy Industries |
2nd | C651 | Siemens | |
3rd | C751B | Kawasaki Heavy Industries & Nippon Sharyo | |
4th | C151A | Kawasaki Heavy Industries & CRRC Qingdao Sifang | |
5th | C151B | ||
6th | C151C | ||
7th | CR151 | Bombardier |
I am having trouble figuring out the HTML attributes that I will need to combine the North South and East West Lines within the same cell, so that the red and green colours in the cell will be evenly split at around the 3rd and 4th generation of trains. For now, this is the best that I can do:
Line | Generation | Stock | Supplier |
---|---|---|---|
North South Line East West Line |
1st | C151 | Kawasaki Heavy Industries |
2nd | C651 | Siemens | |
3rd | C751B | Kawasaki Heavy Industries & Nippon Sharyo | |
4th | C151A | Kawasaki Heavy Industries & CRRC Qingdao Sifang | |
5th | C151B | ||
6th | C151C | ||
7th | CR151 | Bombardier |
I'd appreciate some help with figuring the attributes out. Thanks a bunch. Cheers, Tiger7253 (talk) 02:06, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- How will the reader know they both span 7 rows if they have different backgrounds? An uncolored margin could help indicate it:
Line | Generation | Stock | Supplier |
---|---|---|---|
1st | C151 | Kawasaki Heavy Industries | |
2nd | C651 | Siemens | |
3rd | C751B | Kawasaki Heavy Industries & Nippon Sharyo | |
4th | C151A | Kawasaki Heavy Industries & CRRC Qingdao Sifang | |
5th | C151B | ||
6th | C151C | ||
7th | CR151 | Bombardier |
- They could also be side by side in separate cells:
Line | Generation | Stock | Supplier | |
---|---|---|---|---|
North South Line | East West Line | 1st | C151 | Kawasaki Heavy Industries |
2nd | C651 | Siemens | ||
3rd | C751B | Kawasaki Heavy Industries & Nippon Sharyo | ||
4th | C151A | Kawasaki Heavy Industries & CRRC Qingdao Sifang | ||
5th | C151B | |||
6th | C151C | |||
7th | CR151 | Bombardier |
- @PrimeHunter: Thank you :) I chose the first solution and made the changes over at Singapore MRT and LRT rolling stock. The colours don't fill the entirety of the cell in the first table, though, so it'd be great if you could give us a lil helping hand over there. Cheers, Tiger7253 (talk) 10:41, 7 October 2019 (UTC) x
Interlanguage links problem
[edit]I'm having trouble with some interlanguage links and I'm hoping someone can advise me. I tried to link Jean-Claude Romand to fr:Affaire Romand via Wikidata, but I got an error message saying that "Site link frwiki:Affaire Romand is already used by item Q64392219". This eventuality is covered by Help:Interlanguage links#Adding a new link but I do not really understand the advice it gives on resolving the conflict by merging or deleting. Item Q64392219 looks like some kind of template to me and I am not sure whether it should be merged, deleted or something else.
I also tried going the other way by linking fr:Affaire Romand to Jean-Claude Romand, but that didn't work either (error message "attempted modification of the item failed"), presumably for the same reason.
I would be grateful if someone could assist me to link these two articles. Thank you, --Viennese Waltz 07:12, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- fr:Jean-Claude Romand was moved to fr:Affaire Romand ("Romand case") in 2017.[1]. In May 2019 Nomen ad hoc removed the French article from the Wikidata item for the man.[2] I'm not sure whether Wikidata allows the articles to be in the same item when one is formally about a crime case and the other a biography of the criminal. The article content is similar and there is no language with separate articles about the criminal and the crime so it seems logical to me to merge them. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:34, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- I've moved fr:Affaire Romand to d:Q1348718, being aware that Wikidata dislikes mergers of related-but-not-exactly-the-same items. Another "solution" I use but which is also frowned upon by Wikidata is to remove the redirect from fr:Jean-Claude Romand, add it to d:Q1348718, and then reapply the redirect (since Wikidata refuses to connect to redirects). – Thjarkur (talk) 12:07, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- Excellent, thanks for your help. --Viennese Waltz 12:20, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
Incomplete and wrong feature
[edit]To be fair and unbiased, you put the wrong artist on the " in the shadows". It should be KING DIAMOND, for his album released in the early '90s. Long before the progressive Finnish band ever learned an instrument, or possibly born. Please correct. You must give credit where due — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:1C0:6B00:BFE0:35BF:AD47:6675:DEFE (talk) 07:51, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- It's not clear to me which article(s) you are referring to. As is usual when two or more articles are about similarly named topics, In the Shadows is what we call a "disambiguation page". That page lists both the album by King Diamond's group Mercyful Fate and a song of the same name by a Finnish band. Please could you explain your concerns more specifically. Thank you, --Viennese Waltz 08:03, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- We have In the Shadows (song) for the track by The Rasmus and In the Shadows (album) for the Mercyful Fate record. Writing credits etc. would seem to be correct. Eagleash (talk) 10:00, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
Will There Ever Be A Dark Mode Available ?
[edit]Hi, I was wondering if a 'dark mode' option might ever become available, at least for me I find the dark mode that I'm used to using on other site's is much easier on my eye's. Thanks, David W. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davy49 (talk • contribs) 09:39, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- You could do it like this: Copy the contents of this page into this page. This will apply the Vector-DarkCSS skin. – Thjarkur (talk) 10:23, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- I'm having a Bill and Ted woah moment here. EDIT. It's fantastic. -Roxy, the dog. wooF 11:36, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- Just FYI related tip... not dark mode, but works for me on my desktop... a free utility called F.lux. It auto reddens/whitens the screen to suit my needs. NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 11:43, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- I've bee using Flux for some time, but not for dark mode. Gonna try. Roxy, the dog. wooF 11:53, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
HOW I CAN PROVIDE RELIABLE SOURCE
[edit]HOOW I CAN PROVIDE RELIABLE SOURCE TO WIKIPEDIA FOR EDITING — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sardar00 (talk • contribs) 09:53, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- Read WP:RS to help you understand what is and is not a reliable source, and Wikipedia:Reliable sources#Locating reliable sources to help you find them. Then add them to the article you would like to improve. --Viennese Waltz 09:58, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
How i can use Wikipedia citing Sources WP:citetype — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sardar00 (talk • contribs) 09:56, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- You got an answer to this above. Please do not type in all capital letters, that is considered yelling. 331dot (talk) 10:00, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- Not quite sure I get your question, but Help:Referencing for beginners may help. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:48, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
question re template
[edit]how do we enable the parameter for "state", i.e. state="extended", to be used with this template, template:Franklin D. Roosevelt? trying to do so. appreciate any help. thanks. --Sm8900 (talk) 13:49, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- It doesn't appear to have a value "extended", Sm8900. Are you thinking of "expanded"? --ColinFine (talk) 16:45, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- yes, you're right. actually, it has been straightened out now. one helpful editor went in and edited the template. thanks!! by the way, I think both extended or expanded can work, but perhaps I'm mistaken. thanks! Sm8900 (talk) 16:53, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
Naturland English page
[edit]Good afternoon,
We are Naturland, an association for Organic Agriculture, a non profit-organisation with projects around the world.
Our intern made this account witht the aim to update the English Naturland Wikipedia page similar to the German version. Since now, we have trouble editing the page due to apparently not complying to the disclosure requirements.
I would like to highlight, that Naturland is a non-profit-organisation and not using Wikipedia for advertisement. What do we have to do to just add general information to the Naturland page? Other private certification businesses like Demeter for instance are also able to do so. Could you help us further? Do we need to make a new account? We used third party references only of course.
Thank you for your support.
Kind regards,
Alba on behalf of Naturland e.V. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andresmahecha25 (talk • contribs) 15:14, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- (Previous discussion from 2 hours ago: Wikipedia:Teahouse#Editing_Wikipedia_Naturland_page.) Your draft is currently pending review, getting a review can take about 8 weeks. – Thjarkur (talk) 15:18, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
Citation Titles missing
[edit]I've attempted to change the citations on an article I recently edited to reflect the missing titles. The changes after publishing did not seem to take effect. How can I make these changes? — Preceding unsigned comment added by StaceyHood (talk • contribs) 16:19, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- If VisualEditor is refusing to save the material you add in the "Title" field (VisualEditor has been very buggy this week for some reason), you might have to edit the source directly and fill in the
|title=
attributes. – Thjarkur (talk) 16:36, 7 October 2019 (UTC)

Done
Uploading Photos With The Photographers Permission
[edit]Hello All!
I recently got in contact with the photographer of a photo I would like to upload as a celebrity's main profile photo.
They consented to this via email, so I want to get started in the process of changing it.
Could a kind soul walk me through best practices for getting this picture up successfully?
I think the first step is probably creating a discussion on their talk page.
Is there anything else I should know or specifics I should have so Wikipedia knows I have consent to use the photo?
Thank you so much! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lielac (talk • contribs) 19:26, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Lielac: See the instructions at WP:CONSENT. Note that permission to use only on Wikipedia is insufficient. The image must be released under a license that allows for reuse for any purpose. RudolfRed (talk) 19:30, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
Twinkle and CSD
[edit]Twinkle logs speedy deletion tags and created this page User:Interstellarity/CSD log1. I turned it off in Twinkle settings but it keeps creating it. Any help would be appreciated? Please ping me when you answer. Interstellarity (talk) 21:54, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- Interstellarity, remove the line
importScript('User:CAPTAIN RAJU/twinkleoptions.js');
from your common.js. – Thjarkur (talk) 22:21, 7 October 2019 (UTC)- @Thjarkur: Thank you. Interstellarity (talk) 22:45, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
How do I create a wikipedia page for someone?
[edit]I want to create a wikipedia page for someone who should already have one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.184.249.181 (talk) 21:55, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- Wikipedia has articles, not "pages". Successfully creating a new article is the hardest task on Wikipedia. It takes much time and practice. It's best to get a handle on the process by editing existing articles first, to get a feel for how Wikipedia works and what is looked for in new articles. New articles must show with independent reliable sources how the subject meets Wikipedia's special definition of notability. There is a more specific definition for notable people. If you still want to attempt to create an article, as an IP user you will need to create and submit a draft using Articles for Creation, but you should read Your First Article first. 331dot (talk) 22:11, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- I've written a guide on how to write articles that won't be deleted as part of a larger guide on a variety of issues new users might face. Ian.thomson (talk) 22:19, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
Published a page on the Talk Page but not able to view publicly
[edit]Published the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft_talk:Expanse_Inc on the Talk Page but have not been able to view the page publicly. How long does it take after publishing for the article to be available for public viewing? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mahnoortarique (talk • contribs) 23:28, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- Mahnoortarique, it had not been submitted for review. You can now click on the blue button "Submit this draft for review" on Draft:Expanse Inc, but be aware that your draft is a bit too promotional and will likely be rejected. – Thjarkur (talk) 23:32, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
