www.IMDb.com Reference

[edit]

Can IMDb www.IMDb.com be used as a reference for a notable person who is a film director listed in IMDb? — Preceding unsigned comment added by NANGA (talkcontribs) 04:42, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes for verification but it does nothing to prove WP:N notability. Everyone with any credits in film has a imdb page. Legacypac (talk) 05:54, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:Citing IMDB for the guidelines on using iMDB as a source. Rojomoke (talk) 05:58, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please link in: in the line with ref. number 26 at the end - the link "Balmoral" should go directly to the castle in Scotland - but it does not. Thanks in advance101.182.69.169 (talk) 05:25, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong signature being added

[edit]

I've recently (couple of weeks ago?) changed user names. Now when I make a contribution to an article, it gets correctly signed with my new user name. However, when I make a contribution to a talk page (including this one), that gets signed with my old name, even though I'm logged in with my new name. Any ideas what I could/should do to rectify this? (First I thought it was an issue with my browser cache, but I've cleared it and still the same problem persists.) DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:02, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@DoubleGrazing: Remove the wrong name from the Signature field at Special:Preferences. PrimeHunter (talk) 08:53, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @PrimeHunter: -- appreciate it! Still don't quite understand why there was a difference between how the four tildes work on article vs. talk pages, but that's probably just my own ignorance, and in any case not strictly relevant. Thanks for your help! :) DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:00, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@DoubleGrazing: Users are allowed to customize their signature. See Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing your signature. At some time you entered "xxxxx" in that field to display that in signatures instead of "Xxxxx". Log entries like the username in page histories always show the real username. Log entries are not called signatures. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:10, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Understood (I think). Every day I learn something new, one of the benefits of being a relative newbie! :) DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:16, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
DoubleGrazing I've been an active contributor here for almost ten years and I still learn something new every day! Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:38, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hope nobody minds if I now edit out my old user name from this section, that was kind of the whole point of why I was asking for help in the first place.DoubleGrazing (talk) 17:44, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

im new here

[edit]

how do i create and submit a new entry?GLANTH (talk) 12:18, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

GLANTH: if you are new here, I would advise you strongly against trying to submit a new entry. It's one of the hardest tasks you could choose. Inexperienced editors who try to create new entries often give up in despair after struggling with the rules and bureaucracy, so that Wikipedia loses a potential good new editor. There are many easier tasks you could choose, such as correcting grammar and spelling, adding relevant facts, adding references, correcting formatting, improving layout. Once you're familiar with at least some of these basic tasks will be a better time to try to create a new article. Maproom (talk) 12:28, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, my name is Guset Gheorghe, Wrong photo, to the name guset gheorghe

[edit]

Hello, my name is Guset Gheorghe, I am a Romanian athlete, on the wikipedia site you posted me a wrong photo with another person. Please change it to put a photo with me.Thank you a nice day! Google, looking for guset gheorghe photo — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guset G (talkcontribs) 13:46, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Guset G: The article Gheorghe Gușet displays File:Gheorghe Gușet 1992.jpg. Is that the wrong photo? We got it from http://foto.agerpres.ro/index.php?i=517971. We often get posts from people who actually saw a photo in Google and not Wikipedia. Are you by any chance referring to a photo or text shown to the right of a Google search? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt may be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information, but Google's Knowledge Graph has a "Feedback" link where anyone can mark a field as wrong. Objection on deleting an article.

[edit]

I started editing the article "Hussein Barghouti" today, and added some information and will continue to add more and more info until the article is complete. However, I logged in 2 hours later and I saw that the article is marked for deleting in one week. Who can I contact or how can I object in order to stop this? The article, before, barely contained any information, which is why I decided to keep adding and editing on it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hussein_Barghouti AtharZeer (talk) 13:52, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In the case of this article, they used proposed deletion, which you can contest by simply editing the article to remove the {{proposed deletion/dated}} tag. Pppery 13:53, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Robert E. Bourdeau page

[edit]

I created this page about my father Robert E. Bourdeau. I have a personal memoir written by my father that has not (and probably will not) been published. I also have some pdf files shared with me by the NASA history office that cannot be referenced by the public. Is it OK and is there a proper way to reference any of this material on his page?? MickieB (talk) 17:32, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid not, MickieB. Because Wikipedia may be edited by anybody at any time. there's no guarantee that any article is correct, so in order to be reliable, the reader has to be able to verify everything, at least in principle. To satisfy this requirement, everything in Wikipedia should be cited to a reliably published source. Unpublished information is never acceptable as a source. A corollary is that if there is little or no reliably published information about a subject, then it is impossible to write an acceptable article on the subject, and editors are not allowed to try: the Wikipedia jargon for that is that the subject is not notable. The principle about sources is in WP:V. Sorry. --ColinFine (talk) 18:29, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Article of Concern - Oba Otudeko

[edit]

Greetings,

I will like to call your attention to both cases of "neutral point of view" and "additional citation" placed on the above named page (Oba Otudeko). From my observation, there are a significant number of third part sources cited and the information on the said page appear informative rather than opinion-centric. However, two maintenance templates have been placed that refutes this. Relevant edits have been made but the templates remain.

Kindly please help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SurajRokafela (talkcontribs) 23:45, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Are you serious? Parts of the article read like an autobiography, other parts like an advertisement for Honeywell Group. Who wrote: "They are blessed with several brilliant and accomplished children"? His publicist? RivertorchFIREWATER 03:49, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed that particular bit of peacock language, but the article still needs more work. There is too much about the Honeywell Group which is not the subject of the article. I assume there is no connection with Honeywell? Dbfirs 08:35, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I wondered about that, too. RivertorchFIREWATER 16:12, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
