[edit]How do I merge two tables into one?
[edit]There are two tables on Hitomi Nakamichi that I would like to merge into one. How would I do this? My attempts end up with either a really small second table or removing it from the page (thank goodness for the preview function). Thanks Red Fiona (talk) 00:52, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Red Fiona: Can you clarify on what tables you are speaking about? Are you referring to the infoboxes? Tiggerjay (talk) 00:54, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, the two infoboxes, one seems to be a personal data infobox and one is a medals info box. Red Fiona (talk) 01:02, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hoe does this change look? --David Biddulph (talk) 01:09, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Perfect. Exactly what I was after. I think it was the pipe before medal template that I was missing. Thank you. Red Fiona (talk) 01:22, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

Possible to watch/RSS subscribe to only part of a page
[edit]I sometimes only want to monitor and be notified of changes on parts of a wikipedia page. For example, I opened a dispute on the resolution noticeboard and would like to be notified via my watchlist and/or an RSS/Atom feed of any changes to a particular dispute. However it appears that if I watch or subscribe to the RSS feed for the dispute resolution page I will be notified of changes related to all the different disputes on the page--not just the one I am interested in. Is there a workaround for this? Thanks - Dan Eisenberg (talk) 01:15, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Dan Eisenberg: This isn't possible, sadly. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:08, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks. Seems there is a feature request discussion at phabricator for this [[1]]. I hope it is implemented soon--seems like a major and surprising oversight. -Dan Eisenberg (talk) 17:35, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Can't this be done by Wikipedia:Transclusion somehow? Sections of a page can be grabbed (transcluded) from other pages. If you watch the source page of the Transclusion and not the destination that would do what you want? Note the "Composite Page" section of the aforesaid link of which here is an extract:-

- "each component page and the composite page are treated separately. While the actual changes on the component pages will be transcluded onto the composite page, the edit history, recent changes, page-watch settings, page protection, TOC, "what links here" links, and other features of the composite page do not reflect, or affect, the histories, watch settings, protection levels, what links here lists of the component pages. The composite page is a page in its own right." Sliven2000 (talk) 10:48, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
- Also, I imagine the IT guys could redesign how wikipedia works so that ALL sections were contained in their own separate page and aggregated into composite articles but a) it would cost money to make such a change and b) there would be a slight increase in required storage space for Wikipedia's content and a slight decrease in performance of Wikipedia's speed which would necessitate an upgrade in the server processing power i.e., the more functionality that is built into wikipedia the more its running costs. How much money do you want to donate to wiki? Do you want this change so much that you would be prepared to pay for it? Sliven2000 (talk) 10:56, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
to save a page to view it offline
[edit]if i want a page or say an answer to the searched topic be viewed by me in an offline state, so in that case how to save the page?????115.241.20.83 (talk) 18:36, 29 December 2015 (UTC)RJ 115.241.20.83 (talk) 18:36, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- There are a couple of options. One way is to view the page you're interested in, and then click "Download as PDF" on the left-side menu. Alternative, see Wikipedia:Database_download#Offline_Wikipedia_readers. Tiggerjay (talk) 19:58, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
Add a new line using "Search and replace"?
[edit]Is there a way to insert a new line using the "Search and replace" tool? Thanks. -- Wikipedical (talk) 21:35, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Wikipedical: I might be missing something, but you could you clarify which tool you're referring to? I know AutoWikiBrowser supports multi-line find-and-replace. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 21:47, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Do you mean inserting something with newline characters after clicking "Advanced" in and then the Search and replace icon to the right? I have also wanted newlines in the replace text but not found a direct way to do it. Only the Search field can be treated as regex so \n is not changed to a newline in the Replace field. I found a cumbersome way for my purpose: Use regex to capture a newline somewhere in the search field with (\n), and insert it in both its original position and new wanted positions with $1. Does that make sense to you? It requires regex knowledge and can be tricky to get right. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:54, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
