- I was trying to update the link to my website. The link provided has the .ca extension, which is a re-direct. All I was trying to do was direct it to the current extension of .info I apologize if this caused a problem. I actually only created this Wiki account to update my friend's page--which is a stub at present--and I figured while I was at it, I would check to see if any of the links to my site were outdated. - Description
- Added edits the occupation to reflect the transition of Ward from model to pornographic actress as evidenced by content on her premium Snapchat and Patreon page. Ward gets paid by Snapchat and Patreon subscribers to create videos of her engaging in explicit sexual activity including sexual intercourse with on-camera vaginal penetration with a human penis and other phallic objects, as such her occupation fits the description of "pornographic actress". This content is also freely available on numerous websites (e.g reddit etc). including dedicated pornographic websites such as pornhub, xhamster, xvideos etc.

Boyer into it; "Daniel" and "Boyer" are both located on the same line due to being the authors within refs and it may be that this filter detects edits using

@Suffusion of Yellow: I don't think the filter can be expected to discriminate between archaic British slang and the more common, and commonly abused, use of the term "fag". While it is technically a FP, I think it unreasonable to expect it to do so (or to expend the programming effort for it to do so). General Ization Talk 21:21, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
- @General Ization: (Already sort of replied on User talk:JN66432) Yes, the filter is probably unfixable (or at least not worth fixing), but that doesn't justify removing JN66432's report. Only the blatantly bad faith reports should be removed. Newbies need not worry themselves with what's an "unreasonable" fix and what isn't; that's for us to sort out. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 21:40, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
- @General Ization: (trying to keep things in one place...) And as to your suggestion on User talk:JN66432 of checking for "Lucifer", yes, that would work, but for performance and readability reasons, there would need to be a strong justification for adding it. These seem to be the only two uses, so you are correct, it's not worth the trouble of fixing. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 21:52, 11 December 2018 (UTC)

- Talk:Origins of rock and roll (filter log)
- Description
- I tried to express my doubts about a claim in the article, alleging a sexual connotation of the phrase "rock and roll" in the sea shanty Johnny Bowker, in the following words:
- Does the line "Oh do, my Johnny Bowker, come rock and roll me over" in the sea shanty really have a sexual connotation, as the article claims? I'm not sure that the first cited source really states this, and the second one is just the lyrics themselves. The notion that the sailors, while hoisting a sail, would routinely entreat a fictional Johnny Bowker to come and sodomise them strikes me as a bit too odd.

- I see you've found your way around the filter. The public description is "Talk page abuse" so perhaps you can imagine why it mistook your edit for something abusive. I've looked through the recent hits and there's some really horrible stuff in there, so I'm hesitant to suggest any weakening of this filter. If you have any more trouble, feel free make more reports here. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 23:35, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response. For the record, I will note that I completely disagree with your overall attitude to the issue as reflected in this and other responses I see here. Just because *some* idiots are vandals, to be on the safe side, *all* users are being forced to go to some ridiculous, Victorian-style lengths to avoid triggering filters - if "sodomise", which is a matter-of-fact, formal and clinical term, is considered too dangerous a word, I expect that we'll soon be talking about "unmentionables" again. Stupid vandal scribblings haven't killed anybody and aren't worth making it impossible for everybody to use normal English. Of course, there is probably also the element of punishing IPs for being IPs, because I assume that the filter doesn't apply to registered/logged-in users. This is the first time I run into such an absurdity on Wikipedia, so I can only see it a reflection of a general current trend towards increased acceptance of censorship on the Internet and elsewhere.--94.155.68.202 (talk) 02:05, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
- Well, I said I was hesitant to suggest weakening the filter, not that it should never be done. When I say "horrible" stuff, I'm talking about the kind of nasty personal attacks that tend to drive good editors away from the project. Maybe you can brush off the worst abuse from the meanest Internet Tough Guy, but we can't expect every editor to have similarly thick skin.
- That said, to the best I can tell from a tiny sample, the specific word that tripped the filter here doesn't seem to correlate spectacularly well with abuse. @Zzuuzz: You mentioned a while back an interest in trimming this filter. I don't know any better way to search through old filter hits than paging through Special:ApiSandbox results and CTRL-Fing, but from what I can tell, it's a mix of good and bad. Going back to about August, there's this FP, plus another one at Special:AbuseLog/22494585. Before that, there's the questionable Special:AbuseLog/21854122, and the filter-working-as-intended Special:AbuseLog/21847634. It's possible that I missed some, but with a 50% FP rate, perhaps the word isn't needed. Thoughts? Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 04:47, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
- The IP user should note that we try very hard to reduce false positive hits, and I'd suggest they underestimate the amount of severe abuse this site gets on a constant basis. If they haven't hit the filter before I think that's a good sign. That said, beyond the general I happen to know exactly what specific type of vandalism this filter entry refers to, and I'm willing to try removing it in its current form at this time. Done. -- zzuuzz (talk) 06:37, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
- I am quite aware of the large amount of vandalism that occurs on Wikipedia, and I do appreciate the valuable work done to counteract it, even if I don't think that a complete ban on the use of certain words is the way to do this. As for personal attacks on talk pages, I think that these should be - and generally are - penalised with blocks and bans, but should not - and cannot possibly - be precluded in advance by automatic filters. And in any case, my impression is that personal attacks involving extreme profanity or rape threats are extremely uncommon occurrences on Wikipedia talk pages, so I highly doubt that they are among the most important factors driving off good users. That said, I'm thankful that you have made some modifications with respect to the specific problem.--94.155.68.202 (talk) 04:23, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

- I've added the image to the article. You should be able to perform further tweaks to that infobox as required. Bradv🍁 12:53, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Bradv: Thanks for it, but I'm attempting to move the image from place within the infobox and the error pops up again, blocking me from conducting such a change. Basically, I'm attempting to have it so that the "map" field looks like this:
| map = [[File:SpainRegionMapRegionalControl2019.png|435px]]
- But it is not allowing me to do so. I do not know what is going on; this is the first time I experience something like this. Impru20talk 15:02, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

- I tried several various test edits with slight changes (a different image, changing the "file" parameter with the "image" one), with the filter popping out at every attempt. However, I got rid of the
[[:File:...]]
syntax, using an alternate shortcut allowed by the infobox template, and it seemingly worked. I don't know what could have been triggering the filter, though. Impru20talk 15:36, 29 November 2018 (UTC)- Glad you figured it out. I believe this filter restricts users adding images to infoboxes, and you got around it by avoiding brackets. - @Addwhereican: The filter tripped on the word "idiot", so this is a false positive. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like we have articles on either Dead Crow or The Idiot Box (comedy club), so these clubs should probably not be listed until articles are written about them. Otherwise, the page will become hopeless spam magnet. - Thanks for the report. FWIW, this filters hits whenever the
added_lines
consists entirely of capital letters, punctuation, and whitespace, and theremoved_lines
does not. Problem is, you removed a pipe character (|
), and that's considered a "Math symbol" instead of punctuation, so the only theadded_lines
matched. Of course the pipe character could be added to the regex, but that may very well introduce more false positives. If the user has figured how to pipe wikilinks, chances are they're not a SHOUTY VANDAL. - I'd say that if this is a one-off occurrence, the filter is probably not worth fixing, but if this kind of thing is common, perhaps it needs different logic. A quick skim of the recent hits reveals nothing but garbage, apart from this edit, so I'm not going to suggest any changes at this time. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 20:00, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
