AWFC Template

[edit]

Hello how are you? I was wondering what your thoughts would be for an AWFC template for teams and arenas. If it would be worth making or not. 420Account (talk) 21:37, 07 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@420Account: Outside of being aware of WP:NAV and the resultant WP:NAVBOXCREEP (which probably isn't on the extreme side for anything linked to that league), there is nothing against it. Go for it. Yosemiter (talk) 22:13, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Major League Rugby

[edit]

Hi I saw you deleted my edit to add a new Table header I do think it's necessary because the previous years had one league table. This edition has a Western and Eastern conference so there is no more higher and lower seed looser in the semifinals instead the conference final loosers StefanS33 (talk) 19:45, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@StefanS33: Thank you for notifying me. That's easily rectified. Seem superfluous to talk about teams that did NOT play for the championship in the championship table and I have not seen such listings elsewhere in RU; there are season articles for those kind of trivial details. Yosemiter (talk) 19:54, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Date of press release

[edit]

I saw you restored December 5 on Boudreau's and Green's pages. For me the press release on the Canucks' website lists "8:30 AM" (or "8:30 AM · Dec 6, 2021" on Canucks' Twitter message), which would be 1:30 AM in New York time. In addition, press releases, news articles and other content are always based on New York time for some reason (my personal observation through years). – Sabbatino (talk) 19:42, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Sabbatino: That's odd, because when I open it, it says December 5 on the top explicitly. It might have to do with where it is accessed from? They posted to social media at 2230 PST Dec 5; their local time (not my local time though). Their local time makes sense to me as that is the location of the transactions, but I don't care enough one way or the other. Yosemiter (talk) 19:47, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I live in Europe and there is a 7-hour difference between my location and New York (everything here is based on New York time – game times, press releases, etc). – Sabbatino (talk) 19:56, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Sabbatino: I knew you were in Europe, that's why I thought it might autoset to EST for non-North American IPs or something. But here is a secondary source that states explicitly they were fired on Sunday. Yosemiter (talk) 20:04, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

One division at a time

[edit]

Howdy. Perhaps its over-tiredness on my part, but I'm just not quite sure of what you're proposing. Anyways, we need more editors chiming in. It's been days, since anybody else has commented at the 'split' discussion at Atlantic Division (NHL)'s talkpage. GoodDay (talk) 03:23, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@GoodDay: I'm not talking about the Atlantic in that discussion (I agreed with the split there). I am talking explicitly to any named division used during the 2020–21 season being unrelated to any historical or current division. Yosemiter (talk) 03:27, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just too tired to figure out what you're getting at. Deletions, re-directs, neither? I don't know. GoodDay (talk) 03:29, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not trying to make more work for you :)

[edit]

Thanks for helping me out with all the PHF/hockey stuff today. I'm not trying to make your life harder -- or anyone else who might be watching these pages. It seems to be an interesting time in the world of women's hockey, and I appreciate you fixing my mistakes.  :) I'm gonna attempt to not make the same mistakes twice. --MikeVitale 19:28, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@MikeVitale: No worries. If I'm reverting, it is just so that you get pinged in the edit. I appreciate you learning and making an effort to do so. As I have been very busy of late, I have not been able to update as much as I once did and appreciate all editors who can, especially in some of the lesser covered leagues. I do wish women's hockey had more general coverage, and thus more people interested, but for now it is what it is. I look forward to seeing more of your updates and improvement. Feel free to ask for help whenever needed. Thank you, Yosemiter (talk) 19:37, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

NHL Divisions.

[edit]

Perhaps, Ravenswing's got the best idea. Delete all the NHL Division articles past/present. Right now, the Atlantic Division (NHL)'s content is an embarrassment. When you read it, its' obviously about two different Divisions. GoodDay (talk) 22:19, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@GoodDay: I was having similar thoughts. Although, WP:ATD, I was thinking about proposing a History of NHL alignment. It could theoretically cover all the various moves between members, the history of each time period in regards to the major realignments (there were always some slight modifications with the expansion from the 1970s to 2000, but really only a couple of major shifts like 2013's), as well links to rivalries that became notable due to the alignments at the time. Having one comprehensive page should prevent much of the WP:OR and WP:SYNTH that has been created due to arguments like "the 2013–14 Atlantic is a continuation of such and such" because shares a name/has a bunch of teams from the Northeast Division etc. Yosemiter (talk) 22:25, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like the way to go. But, can one get an agreement from the rest of the WP:HOCKEY members. GoodDay (talk) 22:27, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Utica Comets

[edit]

Well, if you have a better way of doing this them I am open to any suggestions. The way it looks right now is as if it was one and the same team, which obviously it is not. If we have to split it somehow then I am in for all that. 13Sundin (talk) 19:21, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@13Sundin: you mean other then the explicit, bold, and italicized First franchise and Second franchise directly above each of the sections? 19:23, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Don't forget to sign your response. 13Sundin (talk) 19:26, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But to answer your question, that is not enough. That is hardly visible. And the whole article still leads to the franchise that was moved to Abbottsford. 13Sundin (talk) 19:27, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@13Sundin: You don't have to call me out on that. It was obvious who it was from as it was on my talk page for one. And it was signed, it was just a typo of a missed "~" obviously.

However, if you di wish to seek a consensus to split, you should take it up at WT:HOCKEY. But, they will probably tell you the same thing as: most outsiders and independent media treat same name/diff franchise as one entity, so we should too. I personally am neither for or against a split, both work for me. Yosemiter (talk) 19:32, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question about Template:Ice Hockey Stats

[edit]

I've been looking at a couple of PHF player pages, and I see the "External Links" section on some of 'em that include the template above. For example: Audra Morrison. I've read the documentation for the template, and I see that it uses some information from Wikidata. I went and found Audra's Wikidata page, and it makes sense how the template makes use of the particular Wikidata items to create the external links to (e.g.) EliteProspects. The part that I can't figure out is how the Audra Morrison Wikipedia page knows that it links to that Wikidata page to look up those particular Wikidata properties. I don't see anything on her Wikipedia page source that makes that connection. Do you know how that magic happens? TIA. --MikeVitale 17:52, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@MikeVitale: I would ask User:Djsasso, he made it and maintains it. Yosemiter (talk) 19:10, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I've posted over on their talk page. --MikeVitale 21:08, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

PHF Profile (documentation, specifically)

[edit]

Hola. Today, I moved Template:NWHL profile to Template:PHF profile. A few minutes later, I also moved the documentation page and then updated the documentation to reflect all the new information, updated examples, etc. I'm confused, however, because when I go view the PHF profile template page, the documentation that's displayed is not the most current version -- even a few hours after I made the changes. Also, the "No parameters" Output example still shows "NWHL profile template missing ID" instead of saying "PHF profile." Did I do something wrong? Do I just need to be patient and let some automated timed job do its thing? Thanks. --MikeVitale 19:08, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@MikeVitale: Templates are cached; if you make a no-edit submit changes on a player, it should update. They will otherwise cache over time, a few days at most. As for the second, did this edit fix it? Yosemiter (talk) 19:18, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. Sure did. Dunno how I missed that. Thanks for the assist.  :) --MikeVitale 19:20, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Arena Football League

[edit]

Should the AFL map dots colors corresponds to something. Right now the colors seem random. If you know the reason behind the colors, could you add what those colors mean on the bottom of the map? Maple91eagle (talk) 01:35, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Maple91eagle: They were meaningless as far as I could tell. It looks like the conferences came from Tim Capper, a league advisor or media person, from social media or blog posts, such as here, where he posts under the user name 'Reppact'. Yosemiter (talk) 21:32, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Yosemiter: Awesome, thank you, the map dots are now more reasonable.

Since you are a frequent contributor to Capitanes de Ciudad de México, I thought you'd like to know that there's currently a discussion over whether to move the page to Mexico City Capitanes, as the team is referred to throughout English-language media. Though the discussion began four days ago, thus far no one has commented on it; if you would like to give your opinion on the requested move, you may do so at the discussion on the article's talk page.
