Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2013 St. Petersburg Open – Singles, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Mikhail Biryukov and Andrei Vasilevski (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week for your long-term efforts to improve Wikipedia. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

EoRdE6 submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I nominate User Yimingbao to be Editor of the Week for exceptional hard work expanding and updating tricky tables and numbers for elections and sporting events. In everything from parliament to tennis tournaments, Yimingbao does an amazing job of doing the job no one really wants to do, filling in and formatting loads of numbers into simple readable tables in tons of articles, spending days getting each one right. In particular his work on List of MPs elected in the United Kingdom general election, 2015 has been incredible, adding thousands of bytes of votes for candidates, taking careful time to format it into the table. Working on tables and sport statistic graphs is tedious and displays the responsibility of daily committment to edit minor changes. This nomination was seconded by Buster7.

You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

Flag Icons on replacements of withdrawals in tennis tournaments

[edit]

Hi,

I've been putting flags next to the names in the replacements of withdrawals in tennis ATP tournaments. You have been reverting those edits and keeping flags only next to the names of the players withdrawn, and not the player replacing. Is there a reason for that? Logically there ought to be a flag for both players there.

Ways to improve 2016 Korea Open

[edit]

Hi, I'm Devopam. Yimingbao, thanks for creating 2016 Korea Open!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Please add relevant secondary references to the article.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. Devopam (talk) 13:01, 19 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at 2017 Australian Open – Women's Singles. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continual disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. I see that you have been asked politely a few times about your removal of markup closing tags. This is a little more formal. Do not do this in the future. Thanks. Fyunck(click) (talk) 06:14, 22 January 2017 (UTC) Fyunck(click) (talk) 06:14, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have blocked you for 31 hours for disruptively continuing to remove the proper formatting from articles, as you did in this edit. This has been discussed at both Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Tennis#Text formatting on tournament and draw pages (permalink) and WP:ANI#User:Yimingbao (permalink). You were asked to explain your actions but did not do so. If you continue doing this against consensus and without any explanation, the next block will be longer. Ways to improve 2017 Ecuador Open Quito – Singles

[edit]

Hi, I'm Mattlore. Yimingbao, thanks for creating 2017 Ecuador Open Quito – Singles!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Hi there, I have reviewed 2017 Ecuador Open Quito – Singles. I think you need to expand the introduction so that readers unfamiliar with the subject will understand what this article is about.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

I'm just warning you now before I bring this up again. You were recently blocked for removing closed tags, and I see you are already doing it again with the Miami qualifiers. Don't remove the tags again or you will just get blocked again. I don't see the problem with leaving them there. Why do you keep removing them? Adamtt9 (talk) 16:00, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

April 2017

[edit]

Please stop making disruptive edits, as you did at 2017 Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters – Doubles and Men's Clay Court Championships. Closing markup is required. This was shown to you above at User_talk:Yimingbao#January_2017_2 January 2017.

If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. I see you have been warned and blocked about markup language multiple times in the past. Even February 15th. You MUST CLOSE those bolding markup quotes. This diff is one of many recent errors on your part. Please close all markup. Fyunck(click) (talk) 21:36, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at 2017 Barcelona Open Banco Sabadell – Singles. So what.... 15 minutes later you create a new page with the same markup problems? This must stop! This markup is incorrect as you've been told, and we have to keep correcting it. Fyunck(click) (talk) 23:06, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm letting you know I have reported this last instance to administration. It's great you create and add to articles, but terrible that you keep ignoring warnings about proper syntax. You've left me no choice by doing it 15 minutes after the last warning. Fyunck(click) (talk) 23:13, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sources and communication

[edit]

Hi, I've sent you eight messages but have had no response. Can you please respond to them? Please be aware that WP:Communication is required, not optional. Please also see WP:BURDEN and WP:V.

You have also re-created 2018 Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters – Singles but the creator had redirected it because it wasn't ready for the mainspace. It has no verified information at all. Do you have sources for it? There was no edit summary explaining why you were doing this. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 07:06, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That is now ten ignored messages and you've continued editing. You have also not responded to a message from another editor below on the same issue. We are trying to discuss what to do with the article rather than simply reverting your edit - please communicate. Communicating with other editors who have raised concerns is a matter of policy, shown at WP:DISPUTE and WP:CONDUCT and explained in detail in the essay WP:Communication is required. WP:V is also at the heart of Wikipedia. You are now risking a block. We're trying to build an encyclopaedia together - please just discuss issues. Boleyn (talk) 06:10, 31 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't aware that the page wasn't ready to be published, I just thought it was there before and was deleted by mistake. Feel free to do whatever with it, I really don't have a problem any which way. Apologies for having apparently committed some kind of major offense. I just thought it's obvious that the page is a blank draw for a tennis tournament that is going to take place in a few weeks, I had no idea that this was a controversial proposition.

Request reason:

Hello all, I sincerely request that my account be unblocked. I acknowledge that I was not in compliance with the communication policy, but it was out of ignorance and not bad intent (I also acknowledge that ignorance of the law is no excuse). I was not in the habit of checking my talk page because I had unpleasant experiences with abusive and harassing messages in the past, and therefore I was not aware that I had not responded to questions that were asked of me. I also was not aware that I had done anything controversial recently: as you can tell from my history, I am primarily interested in updating the tennis-related pages in terms of results. Since these are usually factual in nature, I was not expecting that anything I did was particularly open to discussion. I am sincerely apologetic and pledge to abide by the communication policy in the future if I am unblocked. Thank you for considering my request.

Accept reason:

Great! With the blocking admin's consent, I've lifted your block. Happy editing, and thanks for understanding the concern. Yamla (talk) 20:26, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Swarm: This unblock request appears to fulfill the requirements you set out to be unblocked. Do you agree? --Yamla (talk) 12:17, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion: Wikipedia Adventure

[edit]

Hello Yimingbao, as someone who has been active in tennis related pages, I value your contribution immensely and I believe you are an asset to Wikipedia. However, I was shocked to see that you have been banned a few times and it seems to me that although you know editing, you need learn some ropes about Wikipedia. I suggest you go through Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Adventure, that'll help you out in dealing with Wikipedia, as well as other editors. Thank you for your contributions and hope you continue to do that in future. Feel free to reach out to me if you need any help. Coderzombie (talk) 08:48, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Coderzombie! I basically treat editing the tennis pages as a way to unwind - it's 100% fact-based, the pages I create are always based on precedent, and anybody who disagrees with my edits can always undo them, so it's been a shock when I've been blocked, but that's life (or that's Wikipedia). Thanks for the resource, I'll try to check it out when I get a chance.

Yes, I understand that. Most of tennis page related editing does not require citations. I personally think your block was just a case of miscommunication, so if you had basic idea about Wiki, it can be avoided. Coderzombie (talk) 12:49, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve 2018 Istanbul Open

[edit]

Hi, I'm Boleyn. Yimingbao, thanks for creating 2018 Istanbul Open!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Please stop creating unreferenced articles.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Boleyn (talk) 20:04, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Boleyn, I'm sorry to have incurred your displeasure again, as before I was really not trying to be a trouble maker. I thought that it would be relatively uncontroversial to spin off the previous year's tournament page (which had **no tags**) into this year's, but apparently that is not acceptable. I'd love to know why the 2017 tournament page is apparently OK, but the 2018 page that I created from it is deemed to have problems that are so significant that it may cause my access to Wikipedia to be blocked again. But maybe you're telling me that I should just get out because I can't do anything right. Which is perfectly fine, I can take a hint. Yimingbao (talk) 23:30, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Yimingbao, I have only just seen this message. Please WP:PING me if you are sending me a message. All articles should have their sources clear in the article. There are thousands of articles still needing sources, and thousands more that still need tagging as unreferenced. That doesn't mean those pages are OK. It's simple: please add sources to all articles you create. It is not the page where the 'problems...are so significant that it may cause [your] access to Wikipedia to be blocked again', your block was for refusal to communicate or address the concerns other editors brought to you. You have still not addressed those concerns - I and others have contacted you about several of your creations, which you still haven't added sources to. Boleyn (talk) 16:39, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Yimingbao (talk) 15:30, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sources

[edit]

Please see WP:V and WP:BURDEN. Your creation of unreferenced articles has led to a previous block, so I am disappointed to see you doing it again. Please add clear references ('External links' means 'suggestions for further reading' and can be helpful, but we need to know what your sources were, and preferably WP:INLINECITED.) Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 20:08, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to stop creating pages, since I obviously cannot do it to your satisfaction. Please feel free to delete this one. Sorry to be such a disappointment. I remain faithfully yours, etc. Yimingbao (talk) 02:24, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yimingbao, there's no reason to be frustrated. We are here to help. When you create a page, you can always link official atpworldtour.com website as a source, which is primary and reliable and should be sufficient. Also, there'll be an article about defending champions winning the last year's title etc, that'll be a good starting point. As I have said previously, feel free to contact me if you need any help. Coderzombie (talk) 05:58, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As an example, I have added a reference to Monte Carlo doubles page. Have a look, that should help. Coderzombie (talk) 06:01, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your patience Coderzombie, but I'm going to find something else to do with my time. As I said before, updating these pages was a way for me to unwind, but I ended up spending almost an hour yesterday (over a weekend!) trying to come up with responses to all these suggestions (and the implied threats and not so subtle references to previous blocks contained therein) and it made me stressed out all night, so I really don't need this. Thanks again for your kindness. Yimingbao (talk) 12:22, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Don't consider them threats. Wikipedia has a few basic rules for editing and creating pages and we all have to stick by them to maintain Wikipedia standards, that's all. Everyone has to understand basic etiquettes of communication. Hope you reconsider your decision and continue editing. Coderzombie (talk) 13:01, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yimingbao, there is no need to stop creating pages and I am glad to see you have continued to edit since the messages above. It is simply that we need it written in the article where you got your information. If you let me know where you got the information for the articles I've contacted you about, I'm happy to add the sources myself. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 21:19, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey - nice catch on 2018 Italian Open – Women's Singles! I was the one who made the erroneous Muguruza edit - I was just referring to https://live-tennis.eu/en/forecast-wta-ranking and thinking points only, completely forgot about how the counting with Premier 5 tournaments worked. Thanks! Savvy10 (talk) 03:29, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Tennis Results

[edit]

Hello Yimingbao,

I have seen you update many Tennis Tournaments results, filling the draws for both ATP and WTA events. I would like to know if you would be interested in joining an international multi-sports website where you could contribute posting Tennis results weekly. I am currently searching for one or more users to take care of the Tennis section. Just for passion, so no salary and no time obligation, just whenever you want :) Let me know if you are interested to join us! Thanks!

Hello RoadToTokyo2020, Thanks for thinking of me. This sounds like the kind of thing I do around here already, but I'm kind of reluctant to take on further "responsibilities" even if there's no formal time obligation involved, so I think I'll pass. Best of luck with your endeavors! Yimingbao (talk) 15:27, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Leylah Annie Fernandez

[edit]

I am the one who keeps putting back the middle name. If you look at sources, she is more often referred to as Leylah Annie Fernandez. Even her ITF profile goes with the middle name. Only the WTA drawsheets don't include it, but a Google search gives more results with the middle name than without it. Adamtt9 (talk) 19:22, 5 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That's fair, but I think the easiest rule of thumb is to go by the draw, rather than what any other source does. Players often change the way they are referred to between their ITF and WTA days: Daria Kasatkina used to be Darya Kasatkina, Anna Karolína Schmiedlová went back and forth with using or dropping the Karolína, Catherine Bellis was often called CiCi but is now always referred to as Catherine, etc., etc. So I'll respectfully continue to disagree with the insertion of the Annie. I'm selfishly hoping she won't have much of a career so this won't be a recurring problem. Yimingbao (talk) 21:01, 5 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for creating 2018 Western & Southern Open – Women's Singles, Yimingbao!

Wikipedia editor Insertcleverphrasehere just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

The article currently lacks context. I had to click one of the links to figure out it was even a tennis event. Please add location, type of event etc.

To reply, leave a comment on Insertcleverphrasehere's talk page.

I respectfully disagree with this assessment. This is clearly marked as a subpage to give information for the women's singles draw and the requested information on the tournament is easily accessible from the main article, to which a link is prominently provided. I would also point out that the page is consistent with every other tennis draw page on Wikipedia. I stand by what I have done, but of course anybody is free to edit this page (or even delete it) if they disagree with the way it is set up. Yimingbao (talk) 22:28, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

My fault

[edit]

It was my fault you had to re-insert info into ATP World Tour Masters 1000. I'm not sure what happened as I only wanted to revert it 4 edits because of a mistake inserted by "Richardpei." I have no idea how it went back before your useful edits. Sorry about that. Fyunck(click) (talk) 05:31, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, thanks for clarifying. Yimingbao (talk) 14:16, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, 2018 Oracle Challenger Series – Houston – Women's Doubles, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). The article has the same sourcing as all other tennis draw pages on this site, so I completely disagree with your assessment. It's not worth my time arguing about this, however, so I've deleted everything. Carry on, there's nothing to see. Yimingbao (talk)

ATP Doubles Rankings

[edit]

Hello. First of all, thank you for your edits on the US Men's Clay Court Championship. I have a question regarding to the doubles ranking. So is the rankings used to determine the seedings of a tournament just a combination of their doubles rankings, or is the ATP Doubles Race to London being used as a reference? --Ui56k (talk) 11:08, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ui56k. The relevant ranking for determining seedings at any ATP tournament is the combination of both players' rankings as of the relevant date. The ATP Doubles Race to London is only relevant to determine qualification for the year-end championships (and maybe the seedings at the ATP Finals too, but I'm not sure about that). Hope this helps! undoes on 2019 French Open – Men's Singles

[edit]

"Please do not just undo my edits without considering the reasoning behind them." Since the info I added was relevant and you did not provide a reason, there was nothing for me to consider. Deleting rlevant info is vandalism, please don't do it again. The source I used was https://www.rolandgarros.com/fr-fr/article/2019-5-matchs-mardi-28-mai. I didn't add it in the article (not so simple, on a phone), but I mentioned it in the commentary of my edit, so if you had been acting in good faith you couldn't undo my edit on the base it was unsourced. Anyway... there's a mistake I'll let you correct: rolandgarros.com claimed that the last 40 year old at RG was an Australian in 1978. But that guy only turned 40 at the end of he tournament, Karlovic is older. Reuters got it right, Karlovic is the oldest since 1973. 151.67.2.2 (talk) 16:11, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Leads in tennis articles

[edit]

Tennis project was getting pushed around by the wiki-police for have horrible leads in tennis articles... especially the sub pages of tournaments. All the mens and womens singles and doubles at the Grand Slam tournaments have been fixed to make sure the first sentence is the players, the score, the sport, the actual discipline and year, etc.. That is the most important aspect to readers. Defending champion info comes after the winner info. We still have to fix doubles and mixed double to give them a detailed lead, and then we'll work on lesser tournaments. Thanks. Fyunck(click) (talk) 05:04, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Please stop removing Maria Sharapova as a wildcard in the women’s singles. Her name is added to the players list on the official Australian Open website. Is {{col-2}} still in use for draws list?

[edit]

Hey, there. I noticed you reverted my recent edits on the Indian Wells Masters singles and doubles draws subpages. You said, that Colwidth is the preferred choice for tennis draws and col-2 is no longer in use. Did you mean no longer in use as the preferred styling method for draws list specifically or, in general? Because from what I can tell, Col-2 is still being used on many other Wikipedia articles. Unless, there was a discussion on said topic, that I was not aware of. Qwerty284651 (talk) 03:48, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Qwerty284651: Thanks for the question on col-2 vs. colwidth in the tennis draw pages. I create many of these pages, and I remember being told a couple of years ago to use colwidth instead of col-2 by someone at some point. I can't find that correspondence right now, it might have been an exchange in an edit history.
In any event, if you look at any tennis draw page going back ten years (or even longer), the seeds columns all use colwidth instead of col-2, so if only for the sake of consistency, I don't think the 2021 BNP Paribas Open pages should be any different. If you'd like to start a discussion somewhere else, I'm fine with that, but I see this as a settled format and see no need to fix something that isn't broken. I don't mean to start an edit war, but I'm changing the format of the columns back for that reason. Yimingbao (talk) 11:27, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Yimingbao I figured it was a long-time accepted standard, but, in my opinion, the singles draws could be split into 2 rows for the reason to save up on scrolling, especially, on mobile devices and be more concise. Yes, given the colwidth parameter it is accepted as a one row list fo the seeded palyers, but I still believe that can be changed through consensus, mayhaps on WP Tennis Project. Also, on a side note should, in your opinion, the ranking points tables for all 4 draws in Masters articles per year, not just for this Masters tournament, be listed in the main article or in their respective draws subpages or be removed altogether? Qwerty284651 (talk) 12:50, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Qwerty284651 I'm glad we're having this exchange. I've been editing tennis pages long enough to remember that the seeds used to be listed in the col-2 format that you prefer, I just don't know or remember how everything migrated to the colwidth format, but I think someone might even have gone back and changed a lot of the old draws. I don't have a preference for the ranking points tables for the Masters tournaments. They frankly don't make a lot of sense this year because of all the COVID-related changes to tournament schedules and ranking systems in 2020 and 2021. I just did my best to edit the tables after somebody else put them there. You're right that there's some inconsistency there, but I don't have strong feelings about what to do. Yimingbao (talk) 14:24, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wоuld you be willing to discuss this on the Tennis Wikiproject page, regarding this very issue, or not? Qwerty284651 (talk) 02:19, 17 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Qwerty284651 Probably not, I rarely (if ever) participate in discussions on Wiki, it's just not how I choose to spend my time. Yimingbao (talk) 12:54, 17 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Yimingbao Fair enough. It's a good thing I asked first. Qwerty284651 (talk) 13:41, 17 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ranking point stacking dilemma

[edit]

@Yimingbao I want to know, why, in God's name, did you revert my edit in the number 1 wta players tennis page, because of some discrepancy in the Adjusted rankings drop date from Indian Wells 2021. Since when are Rankings points won from defending one's Masters title, albeit in non-consecutive years, stackable. Like, no? What? Why? How? But? Huh? Care to explain the conundrum? Qwerty284651 (talk) 03:42, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Qwerty284651: This is not a question for me, it's a question for the WTA. If you look at the official WTA rankings for Oct. 18, Mertens is listed as no. 1: https://www.wtatennis.com/rankings/doubles. I don't pretend to know the answer to the conundrum of why both Indian Wells tournaments are counted, other than the WTA decided so and they run the rankings. That's what's happening for the singles rankings as well (that's the only way the ranking points as listed this week make sense). I also don't pretend that I can maintain a parallel universe where I know better than the people who actually run the rankings system. If you have a beef with this, please take this up with the WTA. I explained in my edit that this was reflected in the official rankings. If that is not a good enough source, I don't know what is. Also, I thought we were having a reasonably civil discussion about the seeds format, so I don't know why you are suddenly taking this hectoring tone with me when I did absolutely nothing wrong. Franky, I expect an apology, or at least the courtesy of not messaging me again unless some civility is maintained. Yimingbao (talk) 11:01, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Yimingbao: Look, I do apologise. My approach was inappropriate, for which I am sorry. It's just that, I have been struggling with other parts of tye Tennis side of Wikipedia. GNG disputes, page merging, edit warring, now this squabble with the rankings. It is too much. Sorry for lashing out. You can take my apology as sufficient or not. This is up to you to decide. As for me. I will be heading out to the ITF site to see what is the deal with the double ranking points.... Hopefully no hard feelings. In good spirit. Best, Qwerty284651 (talk) 15:24, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I was more angry at the fact the IW ranking points being stacked, not your subsequent edit revert thereof. I shot the messenger. What I should have done is shoot the message. Qwerty284651 (talk) 21:20, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Qwerty284651: Thank you for acknowledging that, I appreciate it.
@Qwerty284651: Heads up that I just edited number 1 wta players again. Hsieh is back to no. 1 on Nov. 8 after the 2019 Indian Wells points for Mertens (and everybody else) were dropped (https://www.wtatennis.com/rankings/doubles). The decision to drop those points on Nov. 8 was announced back in September(https://www.wtatennis.com/news/2243322/wta-announces-ranking-system-adjustments). Again, don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger.
@Yimingbao: Well, the WTA has finally decided to drop the 2019 IW points. Now all ranking points are back to normal. Qwerty284651 (talk) 14:13, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Revert

[edit]

I reverted your addition of "(First round)" just to get your attention to the fact that we don't capitalize in those parentheticals. I just edited about 16.000 articles to fix that, so getting it wrong in the 2022 articles stands out a weird now. Dicklyon (talk) 05:50, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Dicklyon: Duly noted, although surely there was a more polite way to say what you had to say. Those parentheticals were all capitalized until you decided they shouldn't be, so I have no idea why it's so "weird" that I failed to notice that you woke up one day and decided to change the way things had been done in 16,000 previous articles. Yimingbao (talk) 18:36, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I've been working on it for months, as you can see in discussions at the project talk page, and I recently completed it, on enough articles that anyone with tennis articles on their watchlist would likely notice. Doing one more pass, I found a handful of editors including you, active on 2022 articles, who seemed to have missed the point. First I just fixed a few, but then they kept coming, so I decide to try a more intrusive strategy to get your attention. Thanks for responding. Dicklyon (talk) 20:42, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 2022 Libéma Open, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Anastasia Tikhonova. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Creations over draft

[edit]

Thanks for creating tennis-related articles. However, please do not create articles over draft, i.e. create articles that already exists in draftspace, e.g. 2023 French Open – Women's doubles. The page you created has been history merged with the draftspace article. In the future, please check if there is a draft before creating an article. Thank you. Timothytyy (talk) 02:17, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the message. It's frustrating to deal with articles that are created so badly that they have to be moved to and from draft space - I think I might just do less in the future if this keeps happening. Yimingbao (talk) 11:35, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
ETA: I figured out how to move articles from draft space back to main space, so I don't think I'll (need to) create over existing drafts again, even if the drafts in question are bad ones.Yimingbao (talk) 18:45, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Timothytyy: I am in a bit of agreement with @Yimingbao here though I can see both sides. Draft articles should be improved instead of just creating new articles but it is hard to do so when the user is creating articles like this that are so empty and full of errors that it may be just better to start a new one from scratch. Adamtt9 (talk) 16:30, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know that you can actually improve the draft and move it to mainspace? Do you know how troublesome it is to have a creation over draft? Yimingbao and Adamtt9, the easiest way is to replace the draft with your new content and move it to mainspace or simply by blanking the page and starting over again. Creation over draft is against the policies as there are a lot of technical difficulties, so it is strongly discouraged. Timothytyy (talk) 00:59, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Timothytyy: If you look at my responses above, you'll notice that (a) I thanked you for your message and (b) I then followed up to say that I had figured out how to do exactly what you suggest. I'm at a loss as to why you're now taking such a hectoring tone with the repeated "Do you knows??". Yes, I do know (now) and I already let you know that I know. Geez Louise, we're all just trying to do our best here (other than the user referred to by Adamtt9, who's repeatedly messing everything up). I sympathize with (and apologize for) the administrative problems I inadvertently caused, but to be clear, I wasn't being (or trying to be) uncooperative. I also didn't solicit adamtt9's response, although I appreciate his sense of shared frustration.Yimingbao (talk) 11:14, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yimingbao, sorry for letting you misunderstand, but I didn't mean to criticize you. You might notice that I didn't ping you because I believe you have understood. My message was a simply a reminder about one of your small mistakes, I didn't assume BADFAITH. I was replying to another user, so the "do you knows" and explanations aren't directed towards you. Also please understand my frustration about repetitive needs for merges. Anyway, sorry for upsetting you, and keep up your hard work at article creations! Timothytyy (talk) 12:09, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

&Expires= in URLs

[edit]

Please do not add URLs that contain "&Expires=". For example, I removed it from 2023 French Open – Boys' doubles in this edit: Special:Diff/1158833506/1158836405. These URLs DO NOT WORK EVER or only for a few hours then stop working. That's what "Expires" means, they expire and stop working. I've removed many of these URLs from the "French Open" articles. More information at WP:AWSURL. Also ping User:FlashD2002 you might be adding them also. I get notified every time one of these URLs shows up. -- GreenC 14:59, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

OK good to know. Thanks. Yimingbao (talk) 16:03, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Help please

[edit]

Hello Yimingbao,

pls allow me to briefly introduce myself.

I am editor at the Dutch (nl) Wikipedia, specializing in (women's) tennis.

Yesterday, when working on the current Tampico WTA 125 tournament (Abierto Tampico), I noticed that 2023 Abierto Tampico – Doubles was still missing. For once I decided to fill in that blank. I copied last year's article, shifted the year, and replaced the names and scores by the current values as read from WTA draw.

Thinking I had done well, I was surprised by these interventions and subsequently even this notification of its removal to draft space.

Being an outsider to en-wiki procedures, I don't feel being equipped to follow up on this matter. Could you possibly be so kind as to improve the article and get it back to main space? Since all but the final is completed, this shouldn't be too much work, I guess?

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation. Pommée (talk) 15:56, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Pommée: Hi Pommée, thanks for reaching out, I've restored the article to main space after filling in the final results, adding a short lead-in paragraph, and adding a reference. Hopefully that addresses the concerns of the person who sent it to draft space. Yimingbao (talk) 18:20, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot for helping out! Pommée (talk) 20:56, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ATP doubles world no.1

[edit]

Hello there,

This question isn't about Wikipedia but is rather a more general one. So, I was reading this website and looking for future rankings. I noticed that since Rohan and Ebden are not defending their title at Qatar Open this year, therefore both would lose points, but Bopanna more than Ebden. Does that mean that the week starting February 26, Ebden would become the new doubles World No.1 ? PrinceofPunjabTALK 14:16, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@PrinceofPunjab Hi, thanks for the question. I think you (and the linked website) are right, Ebden will have more points than Bopanna after Doha. If they achieve a good result in Dubai the week after, however, they might be tied on points again, and Bopanna would go back to number 1! It's an interesting scenario. Yimingbao (talk) 16:26, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yimingbao Thanks for your answer, its exciting times for doubles tennis! PrinceofPunjabTALK 04:56, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Defeated

[edit]

Hello there,

I just want to say that I think it is better if we use "defeated" instead of "def." as the word can easily be displayed in full, therefore, there is no need to abbreviate a common word. PrinceofPunjabTALK 12:58, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@PrinceofPunjab I disagree - if you look at all the past pages, the word is abbreviated. I don't see any reason to start a new practice that is inconsistent with decades of precedent. Yimingbao (talk) 13:16, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yimingbao Just because something have been used for some time doesn't automatically makes it correct. Writing def. without any sort of key or tooltip might make it confusing for unfamiliar readers and it's not like there isn't any space to write the whole word. PrinceofPunjabTALK 13:34, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PrinceofPunjab I still disagree - it's like saying there's space to write "versus" instead of "vs." But clearly you're prepared to drag this out and I have better things to do, so fine, whatever.Yimingbao (talk) 13:47, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yimingbao I know that you reverted that last statement. But, to answer your query, I put those statements or summaries there because I want to see Tennis grand Slam events being posted to the Wikipedia main page. In order to get the sports article posted on the ITN section, it needs to have a large amount of prose. That is why I add those summaries so that they can get posted. And it did got posted. Those "rambling" helped get 2024 French open article posted in ITN section on the main page, first a tennis article got since 2020 French open. PrinceofPunjabTALK 15:00, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You do you, I don't have to like it. No idea what ITN is and don't care. Yimingbao (talk) 15:14, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
