Re: Early life and military career of John McCain
[edit]> Are you looking for FAC help with this?
Thanks for asking. Not right at the moment — a rework of parts of the article, especially its citing is, is in progress and halfway done. This requires hitting libraries for research, so it's taking a bit of time to fit in. Once that's done, I'm going to do an editorial sweep on the article, and then yes, I'll be looking for FAC feedback/help. How about I let you know then? Kannada literature
[edit]Sir, I have some updates. Fowler has been using the ruse that Kannada literature is undergoing dispute mediation to tag several Kannada related articles. I have explained to him that one Rfc and its related dispute tag cant be used to tag a series of articles. I have also conveyed to him, that whatever "wording" comes out of the mediation by Abecedare, can be smoothly edited into various Kannada literature related articles that he is now picking on, without tagging it. Just bringing you up-to-date. Thanks.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 17:15, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Hi, why did you remove 'Urdu Language' (from list of major languages spoken in the city) added by someone today in this page? It is surely one of the major languages spoken in Kolkata and usage is definitely more than say, Oriya. You can search in that wikipage itself for 'Urdu'. GDibyendu (talk) 08:15, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you kindly for your offer of help. As you can see on my drawing board, I've started into the sections about math and physics as best I can, and used bold-talics to show where other folks will need to jump in. Feel free to just write those sections yourself, and/or change what's already there. Of course, let me know if you have questions or you think I might be able to help in any way.
Ideally, I'd like to get something basic down in the next few days, and then move it over to the actual page for her, then let the more technical stuff get ironed out during the peer review process. Thanks again! – Scartol • Tok 02:00, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Blnny. Ugh, I hate FAR, so destructive, though I see its necessity. Came here with a suggestion. When we've both finished our current FAC/FLCs, and I'm back from some offwiki time, we join forces on polishing off Bradman's article to get it to FA and on the main page in time for the centenary of his birth in August. I did some work on it last year and don't think it's too shabby actually. I'll ask TRM too. I'll be ready to start towards the end of this month. Vietnamese-Americans in the US Military
[edit]These people are simply not in the US Military, they are notable for their contributions. Why cannot Tran Quoc Binh be listed in the Vietnamse-American section?
- Tran Quoc Binh isn't notable as a soldier. He is a sergeant - a NCO - and no military accomplishments are listed, such as medals for bravery etc. His claim to fame is that he is an ethnic Vietnamese who was killed. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 04:56, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
There are various articles about the contributions of Captain John “Viet” Dinh in the US Military for his work and he is notable amoung Asian Americans in the United States. [1]Bnguyen (talk) 04:47, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- J Dinh is a Captain. How is he more notable than tens of thousands of ARVN officers who were captains and above. Your article simply says that he leads small groups of men on patrols around Iraqi streets. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 04:56, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
--Captain John “Viet” Dinh is not a ARVN Captain, he is a Vietnamese-American, in the US military that is notable for his contributions in the US military. About Tran Quoc Binh, your statement "His claim to fame is that he is an ethnic Vietnamese who was killed" He volunteered to serve in the US military and serve in Iraq, he did not want fame to die in the war. He is notable for the fact that he was recongnized by the Governor of California and he is the first person of Vietnamese decent to receieve that high honor. The Vietnamese-American section pertaining to Military is to highlight Vietnamese-Americans that have been notable in their contribtions and they can be found by doing a google search. [2] Also I was able to find the contributions of Major H. Luu by doing a google search as he is notable for his contributions and was interviewed:[3][4] [5]Bnguyen (talk) 05:37, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- Major Luu is writing effectively what is a blog. Secondly, there are lots of majors around again, simply being an officer doesn't make people notable unless they are a general or have won bravery awards or did coups and assassinations - things that would make a non-general famous. So this guy is an army doctor, and if he serves for a long time he will get promoted as long as he doesn't cause trouble. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:01, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- Well, Cpt Dinh simply can't be notable because of his ethnicity, he is notable for his achievements. What are his achievements? He is a Captain in the army. If he wins any awards or becomes a high-ranking officer, he becomes notable. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:01, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- Obviously, people don't join up because they want to get in the news for being shot. However, flags are routinely put at half-mast by local and state governments when soldiers are killed, because Western countries hardly fight these days, and basically they don't fight unless they are vastly superior and won't suffer major casualties. So basically any soldier will get this nowadays. What he has done more than the other 3000+ US servicemen killed in Iraq. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:01, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- I removed the prod at Tran Quoc Binh. I've had some second thoughts about the reason I gave in that edit summary, but AFD is still advisable, since this article was already at AFD in 2005. Generally, you're not supposed to prod something that's been brought to AFD and survived. Zagalejo^^^ 06:21, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- That's fine. I'm not offended. Sorry I hadn't noticed that article hadn't been nommed before. I'm suprirsed that it managed to get any keep advocates at all, let alone survive. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:26, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

--Vietnamese-Americans have only been apart of the military establishment in the United States since they first arrived in numbers after 1975. Please also note that the first Vietnamese-Americans that have been successful in the United States military of course are not going to be General but they are rising through the ranks, because that accomplishment may take 20 years or more. But, Vietnamese-Americans that are noted in the news of their accomplishments should be noted because of the they are notable in the US military establishment and in the Vietnamese community and the world. The highest ranking Vietnamese-Americans I am tracking are up to LTC in in the US military. Shouldn't notable Vietnamese-Americans if they are CAPT, MAJOR, LTC or more be noted because of a google.com search that shows their notable? Isn't a google search to show notable value by news agencies viable? How about * Jean Nguyen and Hung Vu, in 1985, became the first Vietnamese immigrants to graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point. Both had arrived in the United States just ten years earlier, unable to speak English.[6]?Bnguyen (talk) 13:24, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- A google search or newspaper articles doesn't make anyone notable, if that is the case, anyone who wins a competition at high school can be notable, including myself. We're not going to create articles for first Vietnamese-American/Australian to win some high school competition etc. Actually Viets have been in the US for 20 years now. There's no reason that there can't be at least a full colonel or even a one star general by now, if someone has been in the army for 25 years. If they are generals they are probably notable irrespective of race and relgion or caste or whether they were the first or last or only one. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:57, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- Being the first person to graduate from military officer academy/university isn't notable. If Viets were banned from academy/uni like women and negros were previously, then yes, the first woman/black uni graduate or officer is notable. But since Viets have always been eligible since they have arrived after 1975, they aren't any more historic than the 100th officer who immigrated. Race doesn't come into it unless there was a barrier to overcome. Heaps of Lietenants and Captains from the ARVN can start a Cựu quân nhân branch and get in the local Viet news - that doesn't make them notable. There are heaps of human interest stories everyday in the news, like car crashes, murder victims, punch-ups, which are not notable even though they may get 10 mentions for all the police investigations and court hearings. Multiple FACs
[edit]Hey, Blnguyen, just promoted one. By the way, you put up four noms in a week, which makes it hard for me to enforce the multiple nom clause on other nominators ("Users should not add a second FA nomination until the first has gained support and reviewers' concerns have been substantially addressed.") Maybe waiting until previous noms have at least a plus two in the Support column before adding a new FAC would be a good guideline for the future? All the best, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:21, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- Well I do believe that I was in compliance with the rules because I didn't submit anything new while there was a new oppose that was pending for me to deal with and I was working on the feedback. Perhaps we should change the rules to a +2!! :) Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:54, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Second Test, Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2007-2008: LBWs
[edit]Hello BInguyen. I am writing in connection with your recent reversion of my edit to the Second Test, 2007-08 Border-Gavaskar Trophy article relating to the inclusion of LBW decisions in the Umpiring Controversies section. I have reviewed the Talk page (which your edit summary referred to) as well as the Edit history to the article and it appears to me that the following time line of events took place:
(1) Whilst the article was in its formative stages from 8 January 2008 to 11 January 2008, there were two substantial discussions on the Talk page between you, me and others as to whether or not the LBW decisions should be included in the article. These discussions are on record at the Umpiring Controversies and LBWs sub-headings of the article's Talk page. I argued for retention of the LBW decisions whilst you argued in favour of their removal. After the debates in these two sections (the latest of which is time-stamped 11 January 2008), I can find no further references on the Talk page to a discussion of this item. At this point in time the LBW references were included in the Umpiring Controversies section.
(2) Looking next at the Edit History for the article, it seems to me that the LBW decisions were maintained as controversial (ie. they were included in the Umpiring Controversies section of the article) from the time of the last debate on the Talk page (11 January) up until anonymous User:59.176.89.99 deleted the references on 5 March 2008 without any further recourse to discussion on the Talk page and well after the interest in the Test Match and the article had subsided.
(3) When I became aware of the deletion of 5 March 2008, I moved to restore the material yesterday on 22 April 2008.
It therefore seems clear to me that consensus on this point was reached on 11 January 2008 (during a period of high Wikipedia interest in the match) and maintained thereafter as there was no further discussion on the issue and no reversion of the edits until 5 March 2008. In fact the reversion on 5 March 2008 represented a change which did not reflect the state of discussions on the Talk page and was taken unilaterally by one person who did not see the need to discuss a previously much debated issue.
In particular (and not that this is conclusive of anything), I note that you continued to make numerous very balanced and sensible edits to the article on other topics prior to the deletion by User:59.176.89.99 on 5 March (cf: 14 January, 15 January, 23 January, 5 February, 25 February, 26 February and even 5 March itself) without seeing fit to remove the LBW decisions. As someone who participated in the original Talk page discussion, I presumed you would raise the matter further on the Talk page were you minded to personally make the deletions yourself.
I propose to re-include the LBW decisions in the article to reflect the point where I believe the debate fairly finished on 11 January 2008, but wanted to give you an opportunity to respond to me on my Talk page before I did so. Kind regards--Calabraxthis (talk) 15:45, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

- Well, I'm thinking of adding about three images. But do you think it would pass if without the images like in the currnet version now? I know that I already asked you this, but I would just like to hear more of your comments.--RyRy5 (talk ♠ wikify) 03:04, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- No, pictures are not a part of the criteria. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:06, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
I understand. I may also nom Turn 2 Foundation, but it does have some flaws, including the section that needs a major edit and the refs. Comments?--RyRy5 (talk ♠ wikify) 03:09, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Well the flaw is actually the fact that all the sources belong to Mr Jeter and are not independent. As for the expansion, the tag can simply be removed, else we would stick that onto everything that isn't GA-class and above. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:11, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, thank you for your time. Also, good job writing all those GA's, FA's, and your A class articles. Cheers.--RyRy5 (talk ♠ wikify) 03:14, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
DYK
[edit]Update is ready, if you'd like to post it. Gatoclass (talk) 03:10, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks B :) Gatoclass (talk) 03:16, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Any chance you could fix the clock too? It's showing a weird time, I can't edit it because only admins can do that.Never mind, Royalbroil got it.
- Don't worry about the credits, I can look after those. Gatoclass (talk) 03:22, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- I noticed it and took care of it. I was just checking the status of DYK as you promoted the group. Royalbroil 03:24, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- I will be (co)nominating Gatoclass for adminship on 10 May, so this situation might be changing soon. It will be exactly 6 months from his last RFA, at which he suggested a 6 month wait until his next RFA. It's been a very productive 6 months. Royalbroil 03:42, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Heaps good. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:29, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
