Bravery
[edit]'tis a brave thing you have done, and done rightly so. I hold you in the highest esteem. Keegantalk 20:21, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Err, looks like people support paid editing. I don't agree with that but I would think that at the very least, those above admin level should have to declare any sponsorships and at least not openly advertise themselves. Cabinet ministers aren't allowed to do that [at least not openly]. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 01:26, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

I found this development pretty saddening, since I greatly respect Nichalp contributions to the WPINDIA project. A part of me continues to hope that this is just some Joe job, even while recognizing the infinitesimal odds of that scenario.
As for the RFC itself: I find paid editing on wikipedia unacceptable both as an ethical and as a practical matter. I was shocked to read the RFC earlier today and find that my position was (and perhaps still is) pretty much an outlier, and I think this may be the first RFC that I have opined at. A sad situation all around. <sigh> Abecedare (talk) 03:22, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- Well one article by the account that I checked was less than NPOV. I did a google search on the subject and found all sorts of info about lawsuits, fraud, run-ins with corporate watchdogs etc. Needless to say, the article only had a list of awards and achievements and things from the guy's own website, which is not reputable when contrasted with the stuff I found in the news. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 02:47, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- I am not surprised. If I were to pay good money to create an article, I would definitely try to have as glowing a profile as I can get away with. And if I am a relatively obscure person, company or product, there is essentially no limit on what I can get away with, since few neutral editors will ever care enough to thoroughly review an article on wikipedia that appears to follow MOS and has a lengthy-ish reference section. I will also make sure that my article is never nominated for a formal GA/FA review where its deficiencies may possibly be detected - and since my employee is the main contributor, that is easily ensured.
- Here are two ads I read on elance (not related with Nichalp). The hiring client is pretty explicit about his goals:
- Stable Wikipedia Product Placement
- "Expand "carpet cleaning" article and create articles on "carpet dry cleaning" and on major system manufacturers. Competitors will be included but every sourceable and encyclopedic marketing spin will be present. Ongoing stability advocacy is included..."
- wikipedia entry for boosting webtraffic
- "We want to have a page created in Wikipedia about Carpet Dry Cleaning. We have already prepared an extensive content, and need someone to revise and adapt it. The goal is to get listed and have a backlink to our site ..."
- And yes, both projects were accepted and completed. Paid editing on behalf of the article subject (or his detractor) is innately incompatible with COI and NPOV both in theory and in practice; how much ever we may like to believe otherwise. Abecedare (talk) 03:15, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
It's be funny if instead the result of the paid editing was that the WP community dug up the guy's dirty laundery and plastered it on the article YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 01:46, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
The blocking of The Diamond Apex
[edit]On 28th June, without any on-record discussion, you indefinitely blocked The Diamond Apex, [1] claiming that it was a sockpuppet account and was, to quote your edit summary, "MarshallBAgramyan hiding from sanctions".
I ask to see the reasoning behind this decision?
Who was it that initiated the sockpuppet allegation?
Why is there no public record of the allegation being discussed?
What evidence have you to back up the claim you made in your edit summary? Meowy 18:21, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

- For my second unanswered question Nishkid64 has stated that it was he who requested the CU. My first, third, and fourth unanswered questions will of course stay unanswered by the guilty parties (YellowMonkey and Nishkid64). The Diamond Apex is just the sort of editor Wikipedia needs - someone from an academic background (who has access to proper reference materials and not the tripe you lot love), and someone who dares argue against the opinionated biggotry of certain administrators. For that reason, in my head I gave The Diamond Apex six months before your nasty little cabal would get rid of him. I guess I underestimated you. Meowy 08:15, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Bob Windle -fr
[edit]Hi, I translate your article on my the fr.wikipedia fr:Bob Windle. I've differents questions : with who Bob Windle win the relay 4 x 220 yd freestyle in 1961 ? Do you know why in 1968 take a retirement of swimming ? Where can I find a list of records of 220 yd freestyle (to know the record of who Windle beat and who have beatten the record of Windle). Sorry for my terrible english.--Chaps the idol (talk) 11:50, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure about the 220 yd lists, but I can try to have a look. In those days there were no sponsors at all, so most swimmers retired quite young and got a job. Most swimmers went to the US to get a scholarship to study and swim and that can't last forever and ends when they graduate. The book doesn't explicitly explain why but I don't think he could have gotten 8 years of scholarships to hang around for another Olympics. User:JKBrooks85 writes FAs on college sport in the US, he could explain the rules I think. I don't think there is an explicit list of all the Australian champsions on the internet or in a book, maybe emailing Swimming Australia is necessary. Advice...
[edit]Okay, looking at 1950 Maryland Terrapins football team, which I just signed up to review for GAN. I'm not seeing a coherent article here. I see some lists, and some information in the lead, but nothing that ties all the dispartite information together. I'm leaning towards a quick fail, quite honestly, but would love a second opinion (or a third or fourth if any TPS wanna weigh in). Ealdgyth - Talk 15:46, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- A few other things that are missing: team changes, retirements and new recruits, or trades to other teams. Also missing is information on the team structure, forwards, defenders, wingers, centremen etc, strengths and weaknesses: height, speed, tackling power etc? What was team strategy? Formations like in soccer 4-4-2, 3-5-1-1 etc or whatever I don't know what the possible tactics are but I don't see any discussed.
