National varieties of English

Information icon Hello. In a recent edit to the page Football, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author of the article used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. In this case, it's WP:COMMONALITY. Please stop making test edits to Wikipedia, as you did to Aldi. It is considered vandalism, which, under Wikipedia policy, can lead to being blocked from editing. If you would like to experiment again, please use the sandbox. Your changes were totally unnecessary and inaccurate. UK is the correct sovereign state. Please stop this disruptive editing now. Newcastle upon Tyne

Hi. Thanks for your edits to Newcastle upon Tyne. I am sorry I had to revert the last couple. The article, like the place name, doesn't use those hyphens, so introducing them isn't really helpful, and actually broke one link. I'm not sure why it would seem to be a good idea to edit so strongly against the existing article style. A check on OS Maps or Google Maps would help you, perhaps. I liked your other edits though! Please stop or slow down or take some advice or communicate with us

I hate to pile on, but can you please stop doing edits like this. You have done many of them, and they seem to be simply based on your dislike of dates in vague periods and your belief that no date at all is better. I cannot agree with this; in this example, you changed it from "between 1900 and 1910" to "date unknown" and claimed it was an improvement. But the date is not unknown â€“ it was between 1900 and 1910, which I think was useful and which you removed and replaced with nothing of any use at all.

Please please stop with the random edits and little crusades, and listen to the advice you are being given. At the moment some other editors are still trying to appreciate your energy and to be nice and helpful, but I fear that this will not last if you continue editing in this uncollegiate way. It is not just about your opinion on how articles should be â€“ we try to work together.

For example, do you understand why I reverted you here? These edits were not just a matter of opinion â€“ they were simply wrong. If you would like me to explain why, more than I did in the edit summary, please say and I will gladly do so.

Straight above me here is an editor, Clovermoss, trying to interact with you ... are you planning to engage, or just keep ploughing your furrow like this? Just a quick note that this is still a problem. For example, at Police, the Metropolitan Police Force section was supposed to be a subsection of the one above it, but you altered the levels so that there were no subsections. Please stop overlinking. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Linking#Overlinking_and_underlinking - it is not necessary to link every mention of a country in an article. We know what the United States is! Over-linking makes an article hard to read, and devalues the useful links, and is sometimes considered disruptive. Please re-consider! You're still doing this. Please stop making requests for birth dates on the talk pages of biographies. If you don't understand how to use categories, please read Help:Categories, Wikipedia:FAQ/Categories, and Wikipedia:Categorization. Then, if you still have trouble, ask in the Wikipedia:Teahouse or Wikipedia:Help desk. Categories are added to the bottom of articles. You've been here for four years, you've got a talk page full of warnings, and you don't seem to be getting any more competent. At some point, you're going to be blocked from editing. Please take the time to read the pages that people link on your talk page and the instructions on those pages. I know Wikipedia has become very complex and bureaucratic, but there are many instruction pages that explain it. You just have to do a bit of clicking and reading.
