Hello, Wikediter.fact, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like this place and decide to stay.

Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Shiv Vilas Palace moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Shiv Vilas Palace, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Netherzone (talk) 03:59, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I see you moved it back to article space, it is definitely not ready for mainspace. The formatting does not comply with the guidelines of the manual of style WP:MOS, there is no formal reference list per correct formatting, the map in the middle of the article is not correctly placed, the citations are incomplete, the stub tag is place in the incorrect place, and there is spelling and punctuation errors. What's the hurry? Netherzone (talk) 05:41, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I am new at writing articles. I compared it to other articles related to the topic and found it to be similar. The articles is about a palace that not many people know about, though it is still historically important. The palace is neglected and since it is private property, the local government doesn't care. This is why I wrote the article, so that more people are made aware of it. Due to the mentioned reasons, it is covered only by local newspapers, but that doesn't mean they are untrustworthy. The Wikipedia guidelines mention that local topics can cite local published sources. I may not be completely familiar with the Wikipedia format, if you see problems in it and you know how to fix them, I request you to do so. Wikediter.fact (talk) 08:13, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Thank you for your reply. I'm not questioning the notability of the palace, it was the form and format of the article that was not compliant with our Manual of Style - see WP:MOS for more information. There were too many mistakes. There is a lot to learn about writing articles! I noticed that when I moved it to Draft space, you moved it back to Article space. There is nothing wrong with an article being in Draft space, it is the place where articles are developed, and should have stayed there until it was cleaned up and ready for the encyclopedia. There is no danger of it being deleted in Draft space unless it is not edited at all for 6 months, then it is considered abandoned. Other editors can work on it when it is a draft and help improve it, too. So there is no need to hurry or rush to make an article right away. Please read this: Help:Your first article for help with writing. Also, please use Articles for Creation, WP:AFC because you will have the eyes of many experienced reviewers who will give suggestions for improvements. It can sometimes take weeks (or even months) for an article to be approved, but that is normal since we are all volunteers. Please be patient. I hope this is helpful information, and congratulations on creating your first article. Netherzone (talk) 14:33, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with what you are saying. The reason I published the article in the main space is that it can be improved considerably by the input of the locals of Indore, since it is a localized topic. I understand that the article can still be edited in the draft space, it would mainly be addressed by people who are well versed with editing and writing articles on Wikipedia, and not the larger population that knows how to do basic editing. This would greatly reduce the extent of coverage of this topic as it is already sidelined. I can't continue to invest the amount of time required to cover this topic alone, along with school and other activities of life, the main space will allow the small, but not innacurate, article to expand. Wikediter.fact (talk) 15:36, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I understand. Next time create a talk page for a draft article and add WikiProjects to attract editors from various fields while the article is in a draft state. I will do that for you now, so you can see how I did it by looking at the article history and edit summaries. Netherzone (talk) 15:48, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, thank you. Wikediter.fact (talk) 00:15, 31 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Placenames

[edit]

Information icon Please stop changing the names of places in our articles, to different names to those used as our article titles, as you did at Hoshangabad. We use the Common names in English for our articles, not the "Official names", so changing the name breaks internal links to those articles, and is confusing to our readers - thank you - Arjayay (talk) 20:24, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The names i changed were either in response to vandalism or in the case of hoshangabad district, to the correct name. Since a district is solely a modern administrative unit with no historical relevance, the official name is the common name. I am not changing the name of Hoshangabad to Narmadapuram as there is no concensus yet, but the name of the district is not under any dispute. Wikediter.fact (talk) 02:02, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

May 2023

[edit]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Rameswaram. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges.
Please stop disrupting our articles by adding fantasy maps - Arjayay (talk) 11:17, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please refrain from pushing biased agendas on Wikipedia. Your edits were disruptive and should have been discussed before. Wikipedia is a global community driven project and not a british one. seeing that you are an editor just like everyone else, please avoid threats that are not based on solid ground. If you have any problems, please file a report. Till then collaborate constructively. Wikediter.fact (talk) 11:24, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Again, stop adding your new map without consensus to do so. There is a discussion to delete your map because it's WP:POV. And the onus is on you to get consensus to use it, not on other people to justify a long standing and accepted map that is politically neutral, because it doesn't make any claims on disputed territories. Joseph2302 (talk) 13:02, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I certainly can not claim the work to be mine or new since it has existed and accepted here on wikipedia for well before me. I don't think you understand the issue completely since I did not make the disruptive dits, rather reverted them since they had not been discussed. The onus is on the editor to get concensus on their edit. Please give me proof for your claims that call the new map by Arjayay as accepted and politically neutral. Wikediter.fact (talk) 13:15, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your disruptive editing.

If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at Indore, you may be blocked from editing. — kashmīrī TALK 13:08, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think you understand what the issue is, please refer to the Paryagraj talk page. If any warnings are required, I trust the administrators to give them to me. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Wikediter.fact (talk) 13:24, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you disrupt Wikipedia. — DaxServer (t · m · c) 13:18, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I will keep this in mind. Rest assured fellow editor, I have no intentions of doing such a thing. I trust the administrators. Wikediter.fact (talk) 13:27, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

July 2024

[edit]

Information icon Hi Wikediter.fact! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. glman (talk) 12:53, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
