Death Note and L

I saw your comment in the article about Eru in the pt-wikipedia, and probably you can answer me. Is there any source for the surname Lawliet in Eru 's name? I am considering moving pt:L Lawliet to pt:L (Death Note), even without the source, and removing all lawliet in the article. Albmont (talk) 11:16, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You

It's a known fact black female slaves were raped by white male slaveowners. Why are you trying to hide that fact? B-Machine (talk) 17:02, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • You need a source that characterizes rape as the main reason why the genetic mix occurred.
  • On Wikipedia verifiability, not truth is the criterion for inclusion. I read your sources and I could not find a sentence that says that rape was the main reason why the mix occurred. On any occasion when two groups of people mix, rape will occur sometimes. But in order to say rape was the main reason for this one to happen, one must find a source that explicitly says so. WhisperToMe (talk) 17:13, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, you tell me why there are light-skinned blacks. Those relations were not consensual, last time I checked. Are you stupid? Or are you trying to whitewash history? Stupid liberal. B-Machine (talk) 19:40, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:No personal attacks - Do not use personal attacks against other users on here.
Wikipedia:No original research - You ask the question "Okay, you tell me why there are light-skinned blacks. Those relations were not consensual, last time I checked."
My answer to you is "find a source that explicitly says that, because Wikipedia policies require that one do so"
You want to restore the material, so you have the obligation to find a source that explicitly says "rape caused the mixing between the two groups" - You need to find a Wikipedia:Reliable source that says that, explicitly.
The reasoning above is original research as it concludes "Whites raped blacks" and "therefore mixing happened because of the rape" - You used your own original analysis to come up with that, and that is not allowed on here. You need a source that says "Whites raped blacks, therefore mixing happened because of the rape" in one. See Wikipedia:No original research#Synthesis_of_published_material_that_advances_a_position
WhisperToMe (talk) 19:54, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You didn't answer my question, liberal. Why are there light-skinned Afro-Americans? Answer: Black women were raped by white men. Everybody knows that and it's in every black history book. But instead, you want to whitewash that like a typical liberal. You liberals suck. B-Machine (talk) 19:59, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Consulate-General of Switzerland in Houston. Patrick Henry College

Hey thanks for your comments about those quotes by Hannah Rosin on the Patrick Henry College page. I don't deny that those statements are in Hannah Rosin's book, I only question the need to have them in an encyclopedia. I grant the fishbowl comment may be accurate, and if you feel that reference is absolutely essential to the article I suppose I would be okay with you adding it back. I am merely concerned that taking that quote out of context portrays the college in an overly negative light. However I can see the relevance of explaining how that nickname was coined, so if you want to add that reference back I won't remove it.

However, I still do not believe it is appropriate to have the reference to Nathan Poe. Yes that information is in the book and to the best of my knowledge Rosin's description of those events was accurate, so legally you are probably right that it would not technically be libel. However, I simply do not see how the actions of one student are encyclopedic. First of all her statement is not even accurate, as in all my time at PHC I never once heard the phrase "to Poe" in common usage. Perhaps it was in the time immediately after those events ocurred, but it certainly isn't anymore since few people at the college anymore even know of those events. At any rate, that phrase hardly deserves mention on the college's wikipedia entry, especially when it results in publicly branding one student as a "snitch," whether that is legally defamatory or not.--DebateLord (talk) 03:48, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, what exactly do you mean by "Add RS for Kemah Boardwalk Marina" in the summary for your edit on Kemah, Texas? Aren't the sources reliable enough? Do you need proof this exists? Anything wrong with this "source": "Kemah Boardwalk Marina" on Google Maps? – UsagiM talk to me 10:03, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your reply on my talk page. I still don't really get it. It is a fact that there is a Boardwalk in Kemah, that's called the "Kemah Boardwalk Marina". I have been there, so have millions of others, so nobody sane will dispute this fact! Now, I understand that Wikipedia doesn't work with "witness reports", but when it comes to "reliable sources" like you mentioned, you gonna have to wait until somebody gets killed there in the marina, or a boat explodes, before it will be mentioned in a newspaper article or so. What is wrong with Google Maps? It can be clearly seen on the map AND on the satellite images that there IS a marina, also the name is mentioned... What about The Official City of Kemah website (government site)? These sources should be trustworthy enough for everybody... – UsagiM talk to me 19:42, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Btw, here's your fire, not on a boat though, but in a restaurant at the Kemah Boardwalk: Galveston Daily News - Fire leads to Boardwalk restaurant evacuation (4 June 2009) and 5 June 2009. Does this proof there's a "Boardwalk" in Kemah? – UsagiM talk to me 20:17, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Got your point. Well, about the importance then: that is different for everybody... People who own a boat (yacht) will find it VERY interesting to know there's a marina in Kemah. It is also mentioned in the article that "pupils in Kemah attend schools in Clear Creek Independent School District." I don't see why this is more (or less) important than the fact that there's a marina. I don't own a boat, I don't give a rat's @#$ about boats, but I find it more interesting to know that there's a marina than that pupils go to Clear Creek Independent School District... Besides: the boardwalk is a TOURISTIC spot, as you can see on numorous sites! – UsagiM talk to me 20:25, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The marina is a separate entity, yes, you are correct about that. Thank you for pointing out the article about Kemah Boardwalk. In that article, in the part called "Marina", you can read the following: "The marina, located adjacent to the boardwalk, is a popular destination for Clear Lake visitors."... With that, I rest my case... If you still think there's no room for mentioning the Kemah Boardwalk Marina in the article about Kemah, Texas, then I don't know what will convince you. Besides, lots of articles should become A LOT shorter, if similar points of interest and infrastructure are to be taken out... The fact that you are not interested in the marina, doesn't mean nobody is... The fact that you now brought the discussion to WikiProject I don't really appreciate; this gives me the idea that every little thing that people put in articles, even when there are enough sources available, has to be discussed, defended and discussed again... I don't believe that is the idea behind the Wikipedia project! You are taking this way beyond the point of reason: there is an article about Kemah, Kemah and the surrounding area is quite known for its marinas; look on Clear Lake (region), where it says: "The lake itself is home to one of the largest concentrations of recreational boats and marinas in the nation." Now you come and start a discussion whether or not it should be mentioned that Kemah has a marina??? Or did I get you wrong? If I got you right, then I got to say to you that there are more important things to discuss... Hope you start realizing that soon... Oh, by the way, maybe you should also start a discussion about the importance of mentioning the co-ordinates of the city. Who gives a shit that Kemah is located at 29°32′22″N 95°1′9″W?!? – UsagiM talk to me 16:59, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I do get you wrong, 'coz I did notice you did add this source: Latitude may change for waterfront guru. Thanks for that! I really mean it... But then I still don't get why you started this whole discussion in the first place? Do you have something against marinas or to particularly this one? – UsagiM talk to me 17:08, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So-called alias

Hi,
His "alias" is "Umar Farouk the Nigerian guy". Is that an alias? That's like saying "Keanu the Hollywood actor guy" is an alias.
Varlaam (talk) 22:06, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Omar and Umar are the same thing in Arabic, it just depends which dialect you are transliterating from how you want to represent that long vowel.
"The Nigerian guy" is a much easier tag than some polysyllable nobody can remember. But has the pattern so far been to declare descriptive, attributive tags of this sort as "aliases" per se? Was "Scarface" an alias for Capone? Both preceding questions are largely rhetorical in nature.

Light or Raito?

I got an information from a brazilian otaku about the Light/Raito rendering of Light Yagami's name. The English dub changed Raito to Light to make it sound English, but it didn't change Kira to Killer because it would innapropriate for a "cartoon" for "children" to use this violence-loaded name. The Portuguese dub lazily followed what the English dub did. But of course without a reliable source I can't change the articles with this. Albmont (talk) 22:25, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll see what I can do. --Mcorazao (talk) 19:47, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
FYI: I took a swag a translating a little of the article. Sabbut immediately swooped in and berated me for my poor writing. Oh well. :-)
--Mcorazao (talk) 16:18, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
A trick I use is making a draft page in one's username space, i.e. es:Usuario:Mcorazao/Whatever - And then have a native speaker look at it and correct it. Then you can move it off of your userspace into the main space. WhisperToMe (talk) 16:48, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I know. If I had more of an investment in this I might spend the time to do that. As it is I don't really care that much if somebody wants to gripe. I figure I'll just put out the draft and hopefully in a little while somebody with time on their hands will copyedit. My Spanish isn't so bad that the thing needs to be rewritten. There are probably just some odd choices of vocabulary and phrasing of clauses here and there that are easy to correct. I had actually planned to add a banner request for copyediting but Sabbut effectively did that for me. :-) --Mcorazao (talk) 16:58, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't mind being involved. Obviously, though, you'd need to line up at least a couple of fluent editors who want to be involved in order for that to really be useful. --Mcorazao (talk) 19:23, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've already created/improved a number of Texas-related articles on ES wiki...so I wouldn't mind lending a hand. --nsaum75¡שיחת!
Sorry for being slow to respond. My work in "meatspace" and a debate here on Wiki over whether or not Jerusalem is the capital of Israel have both been consuming a lot of my time lately. Contacting editors in Wikiproyecto Estados Unidos sounds good to me. --nsaum75¡שיחת! 04:41, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question

At one point I had my email address on my userpage, but I removed it due to spam/harassment I was receiving for my edits. Unfortunately, the anonymous harassment has started up again. Is there some way I can have those versions of my page suppressed so that the address cannot be viewed by regular users? --nsaum75¡שיחת! 00:15, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Will do! --nsaum75¡שיחת! 00:20, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Manzai Comics

Hi, at WP:ANIME/REQUEST, I've been collating reviews for The Manzai Comics, an article you worked on last Feb. As I was unsure who to ask for its restoration, it's been userified here, with the reviews, etc. in the article. It was made clear to me that I had to ask the original closer of the deletion discussion for permission to move it back into mainspace, but I just thought I'd let you know about the sandbox in case you wanted to help fix it up (especially if you had any access to the Otaku USA review). Cheers. :) --Malkinann (talk) 22:27, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers.  :) If you've actually read the volume that would be helpful too - I've been identifying yaoi series I think are notable via the request page to populate Category:Yaoi over the past six months or so, and as a byproduct, I've been checking some of Aurora's other releases too. I don't know much about The Manzai Comics, but at least it should prove its notability. --Malkinann (talk) 20:32, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fotos

I'll try to get some of KC Stadium when I'm back in town -- and also some of the Mall of the Mainland...or whats left of it. Its the only mall I've ever been in with painted walls representing faux store fronts... When the Mrs. Fields cookie shop closed, they left the cookies in the display case for about a year...and well...they were very furry by that time. I never thought of cookies growing mold like bread, but.... anyhow..

I have something I wanted to tell you

I know you deleted what I have put in the article I was developing. I am one of the persons that saw the happens. I need to show it. If you can help me to have more citations it will be appreciated. The article is West Jefferson High School (Louisiana)--JacquelineX (talk) 03:08, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Air France headquarters

To be honest, I've got no strong opinion either way- they are both freely released photos (despite being non-free because of FOP laws) and so a decent rationale could be made for either of them. Your call. J Milburn (talk) 17:15, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wouaw! Your photo is fine ! I will accept the consensus whatever it should be. I will translate the paragraph about Air France HQ as you wish. Probably next week end. I dont forget images of l'Oreal HQ and Coubevoie Town hall, probably in april. I will inform you because you will have to minimize the image and use it for fair use. I think that Courbevoie town hall is an old building (no no-FOP I think).
Did you see that on Commons "skyscrapers of la Défense" are yet nominated for deletion, and not deleted ? I put warning message and of course, I will not upload new images.--Tangopaso (talk) 15:27, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done! I translated paragraph in French wikipedia. I put your image big size before the gallery. I think it is fine.--Tangopaso (talk) 20:05, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Expertise

Are you expert in fair use rationale? I know you are experts in pix, so perhaps your expertise runs that far. If so, I have a query. Many thanks.--Epeefleche (talk) 21:14, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks. In short, my question has to do with this photo. An editor (Hammersoft) removed it [2] from Daniel Pearl and many other articles saying "its use was purely decorative and fails WP:NFCC #1 and #8." I tried to satisfy the concerns here. But, as you can see from the discussion there, Hammer feels he must delete it from all pages other than the Berg page. Your thoughts? Much appreciated. You can reply here -- I've watchlisted this page. Many thanks for your help; I know something about this area, actually, in the real world, but I find I'm a bit flummoxed in the WP world.--Epeefleche (talk) 16:21, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (disambiguation). We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (disambiguation). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:10, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you think the company's impact on Manitoba was such that it's still relevant to the scope of WikiProject Manitoba then by all means you're entitled to add the "mb=yes" bit back. Thank you!

  • Thank you. I completely agree with all that you said on my talk page [3]. No problem. The problem is the approach that this Jasepl has to all the rest: reverts without discussion on the appropriate page or simply deletes (official sources: web-sites, bulletines or GDS Timetable data) saying that someone "does not grasp of something". That is the problem. And that is the prove - a new revert of Aeroflot page maiden by Jasepl [4]. He has deleted again official code-share partners of Aeroflot (indicated on its web-site [5]), without any VALID source. I've kindly asked him already THRICE [6], [7], [8] to provide a VALID source. No reply. Also, I've reported it here [9]. I'm sure we have to stop him of reverting without VALID sources. --Dimitree (talk) 21:29, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi WhisperToMe, May I draw your attention to Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide#Article tagging. Pyrotec (talk) 21:17, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, No don't appear to be a member of WP:Transport in Scotland and you appear to be attempting to specify what WPs can include which airlines within their scope. It seems that you are an Admin so you aught to comply with policy rather than flout it.
I know about reliable sources, and Wikipedia is not a reliable source. However, given that caveat, the Icelandair says that the link with Scotland goes back to 1945, which is considerably longer than the 25 unreferenced claim that I made. I lived on the outskirts of Glasgow between 1979 and 1991, walking distance from Glasgow International Airport, so I've flown several times in the early 1980s (and since) between Glasgow and Keflavík International airport - none of this constitutes a reliable source but I do have the stamps in my passport, which is a legal document. Pyrotec (talk) 21:41, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I puzzled by the statement of yours about "claiming that X has a substantial connection to Y", at the moment I'm saying from personal experience a link between Icelandair and Glasgow has existed for at least 25 years. That claim is unreferenced at this point in time; however, WP:verify does not appear to be a requirement for talkpages. It is also (as we both agree) unreferenced in the Icelandair article, but you are making far less objections to unverified statements in an article than what is in talkpages - this appears to be a case of "double standards"? I will now start to look of references. I have never flown from Houston to Moscow to Singapore; so I make no claims for having stamps in my passport for these places - I don't have them. I was my intention to do WP:GANs, but you appear to wish to make a WP:Point over this.
Also, as far as I can see the project is not making any scope claims for EgyptAir to Tokyo or Air France to Miami, why would we have any interest in them? Pyrotec (talk) 22:25, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Galveston County Library System

Several years ago, when I was new to Wiki, I created an article for the Galveston County Library System which was speedily deleted as being non-notable. The page now exists as a redirect to the Rosenberg Library. Would it be possible for me to have the deleted article userfied and placed in my user space so that I can try to bring it up to standards w/ WP:RS/WP:NOTE etc? Thanks! --nsaum75¡שיחת! 08:34, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thats one things I really miss when I'm back in States.... The US has adopted such a "sterile" attitude towards food service, bakers, grocers etc, that we don't realize how deprived our senses are...plus going to the bakery section in Walmart lacks the whole experience of a boulangerie... --nsaum75¡שיחת! 11:07, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Classification of articles

I am curious as to when and how articles have their rating classification changed. Is it initiated by a Bot, or do they automatically get reviewed by Admins, after so many edits---or what? This article has been "start class" for 5 years. No hurry, I am just curious as to how the rating system works. Thanks, EditorASC (talk) 13:52, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Allegiant Airlines headquarters

I really don't get over to that part of the town. We really need to get a project effort together to get pictures. There are many articles that don't have pictures that should be easy to get if someone has the time. Vegaswikian (talk) 03:08, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, these are already included in Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Nevada so you would need to do a search for that category and 'Las Vegas'. But like I said, a project group to try and get many of the missing pictures would be good. Maybe a reminder on the project page to look at that category and try and get some of the 729 outstanding requests would be a good idea. Vegaswikian (talk) 03:50, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

translation request about Air Canada HQ

Would you mind translating the following sentence for the French Wikipedia? "Air Canada Centre,[72] also known as La Rondelle ("The Puck" in French), is the corporate headquarters of Air Canada, located on the grounds of Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport and in Saint-Laurent, Montreal. In 1994 David Israelson of the Toronto Star described the facility as "ultra modern."[73] In 1990 the airline announced that it was moving its headquarters from Downtown Montreal to the airport to cut costs.[74] In 2004 the company said that it has no plans to move its headquarters back to Downtown Montreal.[75]"

Thanks, WhisperToMe (d) 14 février 2010 à 17:47 (CET)

Here is my translation proposal :

TWA destinations

Hi,

Have entered many edits and additions over the last few weeks. Just making sure you approve of everything so far, since you are article starter. I am going in part by a large collection of TWA timetables and oags.

Thanks Chris/TWA buff,

I have conducted a reassessment of the above article as part of the GA Sweeps process. I have found some concerns with the referencing which you can see at Talk:Chicago Midway International Airport/GA1. I have placed the article on hold whilst these are fixed. Thanks. TWA destinations

Thanks for the comment. I'm a total documentation freak (see the twa destination discussion page!!),but delayed putting in the notes into the actual article because I'm a newbie, and took me a while to figure out how to do it right. I have full documentation for all of them. A few, however, are only in the form of out-of- print timetables and official airline guides, which may not be acceptable to some. But if that's an issue, I can scan some of the pages in and send them to anyone who may question it, or if the article can accomodate scaned images, let me know, and I'll deliver.

regards,

I responded to your concerns here with an explanation. cheers, Doc Tropics 19:10, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing is ever as easy as we think it will be.....
I reviewed Wikipedia: Criticism, but the bottom line is that whether or not to use a "Criticism" section really depends on what will best serve the article and its readers. Since I've gotten involved I'll go ahead and pursue this, but it means more reading and quite probably some sort of thinking as well, so bear with me and be patient. My initial impression is that you are probably right about dispersing the material throughout the article, and I'll respond further on the talkpage after I've read more. Were there any specific phrases or criticisms that you had thought were "weasal words", or unsupported POV? Doc Tropics 19:40, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help: arbitration/blocking

Hi,

I don't know if you have time to help but I recently created El Paso-Juárez Metropolitan Area and nominated it for DYK. User:Polaron has some issues with it and has been tacking banners and been trying to rename the article based on what I consider WP:OR (no sources provided to refute the sources I have provided, etc.). I have asked Polaron to discuss these things before he/she does anything but I'm having no luck so far. Besides the frustration of that this is going to fail DYK nom if it doesn't stop.

Any chance you could help? Basically a "please discuss or you'll be blocked" sort of thing?

--Mcorazao (talk) 20:53, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks.
For what it is worth I did a little more digging and it appears that the two sources I had on this metro area's relative size were misleading. I withdrew the DYK nom regardless. So Polaron was right to question that (though providing a source would have been the way to handle that). In any event I don't see justification for the rest of the changes (again, no sources provided).
Can you help merge the history back to the original article name? I don't mind discussing what the right article name is but discussing that at the new page location sends a bad message, IMHO.

Diplomatic missions of the European Union

User:Alinor An editor with a keen interest in the EU has proposed to modify the article to list all the countries that do not have a mission of an EU member state, or only have one such mission. I do not support this edit, as the information does not concern diplomatic missions of the EU, only the missions of its member staets.

We have discussed this issue extensively in Talk:List of diplomatic missions of the European Union. I think what Alinor is arguing is that the embassy of an EU member can represent the EU as a whole, or provide services to other EU members. I do not believe this is the case. And even if such arrangements exist, it would be outside the scope of the article.

If you feel inclined, please join the discussions, make your own mind up and share your views. Kransky (talk) 00:05, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
