NOTICE to all members of WikiProject Pokémon

Following a discussion on the Project's talk page, we will be updating WikiProject Pokémon's list of participants. To do this, all users previously listed as "Active" have been moved to the "Inactive" list; after this change anyone may add/re-add their name to the "Active" participants list. As your name was one of those on the Active members list, I am notifying you in case your active interest remains. Thank you for your cooperation in our efforts to keep our list of active participants as accurate and up-to-date as possible. ~ Amory (usertalkcontribs) 04:35, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

A smile

Warthog Demon:

Like they say where I grew up, bless your heart!

I've been editing for about a year, mostly translating Argentina and Uruguay-related articles (parental attachment, I suppose), and have run into my share of egos and bad faith - so, thank you for that!

If I can ever help with anything, please let me know.

Cordially,

WTF

Hey man. I have created the Andi Pink page 2 times and it has been deleted. After the first time it was deleted I re-edited it and still gone. Stop doing that. Why can Ariel Rebel have one and she can't. They do the exact same shit. -KinXerxes (talk) 07:25, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Re:Your First Puzzle

Well, this is my first day on the job, but I'm of the opinion that the name's probably not too similar, unless the user starts trying to use it for impersonation. You may want to ping User:Gogo Dodo; it could be his own account after all. If not, he's also an admin, and as the user possibly being impersonated he's probably well-suited to judge what should be done. Feel free to contact me with any other concerns/questions. Re your message: Not me! Not related either. I'm going to let it slide though. They haven't made any edits, so it is hard to say what their intentions are. Unlike some other accounts that are clearly targeting me. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 20:38, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

No it's not. Nowhere in the article could I see that it said it wasn't a real person, so I presumed it was, and you can probably see why I tagged as G10. Thanks for letting me know that it wasn't, I've changed to G3 - Kingpin13 (talk) 21:42, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Independence County template

In case you wondered — the distinction between "cities" and "towns" made on these county templates is their official municipal status: the "cities" are municipalities officially designated as cities, and the towns likewise. Beauty Rock

I think it is spam (see the "reference" to the same-named company website) masquerading as something else but I don't think a db-spam would work. I also think it is an article really about the record company, but I don't think db-corp works either. I see these types of articles ocassionally and they fall in a gray area. I would first stick {{article issues| notable = July 2009| | primarysources = July 2009| spam = July 2009}} on it and a prod. If the prod is removed, I's take to AfD if a quick Google search didn't reveal any notability. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:36, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

I endorsed your prodding of Beauty Rock. However, the article creator has decided that he disagrees and has thus removed the prod. Hi. I have taken your speedy off this and put on an "underconstruction" tag, as the author posted a "hangon" and said he had more to add; I have also given him some advice, and will keep an eye on the article. I agree it does not look promising, as a one-line autobio; but you tagged it the same minute it was submitted, which is rather WP:BITEy: if you see something like that just come in, better to leave it and have another look in ten minutes. Yes, contributors ought to know enough to get a sensible article together before posting, but they don't, and we are so keen to get anyone to contribute that though there is a mass of advice we don't make them read any of it. You might be interested in this recent criticism of Wikipedia, and Wikipedia:Newbie treatment at Criteria for speedy deletion, an experiment which was set up in response to it. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 20:35, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Overall, I agree and do try to avoid doing that. Once I even saved a notable article; it was about a major character of a notable television series, but was so obscure that someone promptly slapped it with a db-nonsense tag. In this case really it was the username to tag this quickly since I just automatically go "self-promotion" account. Had the username been different and had there been one external source (ANY source), for an article like this I'd have spent a minute or two checking it out on Google before tagging. I won't justify my bias and admit I used that here. It seems to me that many times the person gets hostile when he sees his own notability in question on Wikipedia. (In fact one of the first autobios I've ever tagged on here, got me a "I think I'm qualified to say I'm notable thank you very much." on my talk page.)
Anyway, I do try to avoid having a trigger-finger, especially with business articles as I have a very difficult time deducing when an article is spam or not. (I leave those articles alone generally, unless I feel like they got created blasting both air and fog horns.) I digress by saying that I do try to avoid bullying. (Certainly I've not told anyone to piss off.)
...though I have found that being very nice to trolls gets them to quit. (I once welcomed an account that started to vandalize. I remained friendly trying to convince him to help Wikipedia, not hinder it.) He didn't, but he did get tired of vandalizing after Test3. :) But now I'm rambling.
I shall continue trying to avoid having a trigger finger.
Peace. :) -WarthogDemon 21:16, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
I have a half-formed idea, which I never find time to write up, that everybody, including the newbies, would be better off if before signing up for an account they were made to read a short page, and then click an "I have read and understood the above" box. If the page just said "If you have come here to write about yourself, your band or your company, you are in the wrong place, that's not what Wikipedia's for; and if you are planning to copy material in from elsewhere, it will be deleted as a copyvio", it would save a lot of well-intentioned newbies a lot of trouble, and New Page Patrol a lot of work. A well-designed half-page with a few more points would do even better. But I'm not sure it would be accepted. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 21:44, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

You're throwing that poor editor a pretty hard question: "An article is listed at AfD. The nominator makes a compelling argument that although the article is the subject of verified sources, it is not notable." Can you give a specific example? I don't think such an article actually exists. The whole point of WP:GNG is that being the subject of multiple verifiable sources makes something notable for inclusion (I'm assuming they're reliable too). - Mgm|(talk) 12:19, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

No, it's not nightmarish, but because you asked it, I assumed you believed such nominations existed. With your message on my talk page, that has been cleared up. - Mgm|(talk) 09:44, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Re: Deleted Articles

Re your message: Bunnydrums was deleted back in 2006 for being a copyright violation. A few days earlier the non-notable version was the typical "released a CD"/"have MySpace" kind of article. There isn't much of interest there. The Malaria! article has even less content. No mention of any albums, just who the members are. It does say that it was formed by Gudrun Gut and Beate Bartel, formerly of Einstürzende Neubauten. There really isn't much there either. I would recommend just recreating the articles if notability can be established. Neither article is worth restoring with a DRV. And the copyright violation wouldn't be overturned.

P.S., I didn't delete these, so you're going to have to complain about one of the other 30,000 that I have deleted. ;) -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 08:02, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Hello, WarthogDemon/Archive ... FYI, I just noticed that you had delinked Precious under Stages of Acquisition ... I agree that linking to Gollum may have been a bit obtuse, so I have relinked it to One Ring ... do you concur?

An afterthought ... perhaps a mention under One Ring#Ring-bearers that Gollum referred to it as his Precious?
