deletion sorting is on again

[edit]

Just a note to let you know that Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Sexuality and gender is being used again, if you see AFDs to add, the effort will not be overlooked. =) Peace, — coelacan talk09:20, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added the following to the talk page of the above Template that you created:-

"I add {{subst:deltab|Australia}} to my monobook.js and it worked fine. I then also added {{subst:deltab|New Zealand}} and a second tab was added, but both of them said "New Zealand deletion". The one on the right gave the correct addition for NZ. I did not check the one on the left. Is this a bug?".

Are you still maintaining this template? I thought I might drop in here, in case you missed my question on the tmeplate talk page. Its a great idea. I have been putting AfD debates on to the Australia discussions for some time, but have been forgetting to add the appropriate line, as I had missed using your template. Cheers, --Bduke 11:14, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just made this page and wonder if you could check it out. I think Korean-language sources have much more information (though there's always the possibility that some facts could be distorted due to South Korean propaganda). (Then again, I have to say it's hard to hyperbolize about the loony, extravagant things the North Korean regime does.) Badagnani 19:20, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ongnyugeum

[edit]

Here's a hard one: any idea how to spell (in hangul and/or hanja) ongnyugeum? It's apparently a large modernized box zither with 32 nylon-wrapped metal strings, developed in North Korea in 1973. I saw a photo in a book but there's no Korean spelling. Thus I can't find even one website in English about this contraption. Thanks, Badagnani 06:36, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, can you confirm the hangul spelling of Rhee Brothers Inc.? Is it 리브라더스 식품회사? Badagnani 00:52, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Visviva! I was thinking maybe another collaboration of the month. But the main issue is the new image I made for the collaboration of the month.

It shows on the gallery @ my user page, but it won't in the box @ WikiProject Korea home page. Do you know why? No idea. Maybe you could fix it. Thanks. (Wikimachine 06:20, 19 February 2007 (UTC))[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Gimhae logo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Dokdo RM poll

[edit]

Hey, could you participate in a new poll for Dokdo? The candidates include Liancourt Rocks, Takeshima, and the new Takeshima/Dokdo variations suggested by user:Macgruder. I'm informing you because you voted on the last poll. Thanks. (Wikimachine 18:52, 21 May 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Dokdo / Liancourt Rocks original title

[edit]

Hi Visviva! Actually, the article was first created in 2004 under the name Dokdo [1]. The POV warring was already clear in the diff between versions 1 and 2 [2], but the fourth iteration was already quite good [3] and much pithier than the current version. The article was moved to Liancourt Rocks after a survey / vote in 2005, and back to the original title Dokdo in 2006 after a second poll. In neither case was the change in title the result of a unilateral move. --Reuben 17:58, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I stand corrected! Thanks, I didn't know there was a separate log for moves, and that historical versions of pages show the current titles. You are right, the original title was Liancourt Rocks. The title immediately before the 2005 poll was Dokdo, but only because it had been moved there recently and without any consensus. The outcome of that poll was to restore Liancourt Rocks. The 2006 poll that moved to Dokdo is under Talk:Liancourt_Rocks/Archive_4. --Reuben 00:44, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Gurch,

I understand, and to a great extent share, your frustration regarding the Gracenotes RfA. However, I humbly suggest that it might be best for both you and the candidate if you step back for a while. -- Visviva 06:27, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your opinion is noted. The fact that the RfA is even an issue, however, is evidence that the adminship request process has gone too far, and the slew of oppose votes for the same, highly questionable reason is bordering on insanity. The project has already suffered, significantly, because dozens of users who should have receieved adminship did not, and dozens of experienced users have been driven off. This is perhaps the worst instance yet, and it stands to suffer a lot more. Frankly, what happens to me or Gracenotes is of little interest if the project as a whole can no longer maintain itself – Gurch 06:33, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IAR

[edit]

What exactly is so "silly" about it. It is a policy, no? So what's the problem with using {{policy}} on it? Please stop for a moment and compare our versions carefully - the carry exactly the same information (I just moved the references to a more standard place), except the "It has wide acceptance among editors and is considered a standard that all users should follow." bit, which I now clearly see is being systemically removed, as if people were afraid of the implications. That really cannot be. Миша13 10:44, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dokdo page

[edit]

I saw your comments on the Dokdo page. I cannot read Korean much at all, basically. I just saw the link to the article and the words "Liancourt Rocks," and noticed the poll had just started when it was written. If it is a different article than the one posted on the newspaper site, is it making people aware of the vote? If it is not a canvassing attempt I would like to withdraw my comments (with a strikethru perhaps). If it is a different article, but still canvassing votes, I will leave it. —LactoseTIT 13:52, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rv at Liancourt Rocks

[edit]

Visviva, at User_talk:Wikimachine#Re._Invalid_votes, admin Husond recommended me to " I doubt that the article will be moved back, but feel free to present information about meat/sockpuppeting on the Liancourt Rocks side". But Philip Baird Shearer wants to preemptively revert my edits in order to finalize the move, and asks me to wait 6 months before I present my data challenging the claim of meat puppetry. I'd like for you to take affirmative action against Philip Baird Shearer & allow me to proceed with my data gathering. (Wikimachine 23:17, 29 May 2007 (UTC))[reply]

That's not what he's saying. You're dragging it out, by doing individual personal analysis of each editor involved in the poll, cluttering up the talk page and disrupting any progress besides an endless name discussion from happening. Do it in your userspace if you want and link it, don't clutter it up and stand in the way of progress. —LactoseTIT 23:32, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, it should not clutter the talk page, and I don't wnat people like LactoseTI and Philip Baird Shearer shut me out of the talk page. I see such tacitly agreed tactics constantly at work. (Wikimachine 23:34, 29 May 2007 (UTC))[reply]
He clarified his position, you evidently didn't read what was on the talk page. Your new work was always there. —LactoseTIT 23:39, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's not. The data analysis is gone. (Wikimachine 00:03, 30 May 2007 (UTC))[reply]
I don't get why posting such data will lead to people shouting at each other, but what I don't like is Philip using archive to shut out disagreeable opinions. And especially his (Lactose's) condescending attitude (was it something like "calm down") as if I'm a very irritable child - I don't like it. But I'll give in. "Protection" of Gracenotes RfA talk

[edit]

Thanks for your note. The RfA page is not protected, but it has a big template requesting that it is not edited. I thought that if the 'Crats wanted to look at all the arguments, including the talkpage, then it may be a bit confusing/irritating for the discussion to continue there. They would be able to unprotect it if they felt the protection was un-necessary. I was Bold in attempting to do so, and pretty ineffective as well.

Personally, I don't see the point in continuing the debate there, since the nomination is over. There are other venues to discuss the various points that do not directly relate to the RfA. LessHeard vanU 12:25, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My reasons are multiple.

I certainly don't think that merging made the list "unnavigable." It's certainly no more than, say List of recordings preserved in the United States National Recording Registry or List of areas in the National Park System of the United States. Note also that Timeline of Apple Macintosh models doesn't even have headers.

I also think it's a bit overdoing the splitting when you split 7 animals between 4 families in a section. It makes the Table of Content too large considering the size of most actual sections (which, in term of screenspace, are often lengthened by the splitting on entries in the last column and size of images). If the problem is that you think the color I chose does not adequately split the table, feel free to change it.

At least, please let me reinsert the other fixes: Finless Porpoise and Siberian Weasel images, removing the awkward spacing in between Latin name and authority, and slightly larger last column that avoid splitting every single occurrence of "Natural monument" on two lines. Circeus 16:49, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Straw poll on kimchi

[edit]

Hi Visviva,

I set up a straw poll on kimchi to hopefully get a good idea of the consensus and to end the revert war with which that article is plagued. If you get a chance take a look at it, if for no other reason than I haven't set up a straw poll for a long time and may have screwed it up somehow. Anyway, I'm about sick of reverting/discussing over such a mundane topic, but maybe if we can get the consensus written out more graphically we can reach a compromise everyone is more or less happy with. Feel free to add compromise choices, I saw several of your compromise versions on other pages and they often stick. --Cheers, Komdori 17:13, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question about Ho Yeow Sun

[edit]

Hi there, first I want to say thank you for giving this page some attention. This edit warring has been going on for quite a while now and I've been trying to figure out what to do, so it's really good to finally see an admin doing something about it. My question is what will happen now that the page is protected? How can the page be improved and is there anything that can be done about the user that keeps reverting it back? Here is a message that I sent to another administrator asking for help previously:

"Hi there, I'm having trouble editing the wiki page Sun Ho. Everytime I try to include something controversial about this lady, User Jing13 keeps deleting mine and other people's edits as well. This lady is publically known celebrity in Singapore, and many editors are trying to highlight the controversial nature of her actions (She was a pop star and a pastor at the same time for a few years, and recently denied ever being a pastor, causing an uproar in Singapore. She has since moved to the USA.).

In addition, User Jing13 has removed the edits of other users from the wiki pages City Harvest Church and Kong Hee. Kong Hee is the founder of City Harvest Church and Sun Ho's husband. In effect, these wiki pages have become public relations advertising for them, which I feel is against the spirit of free speech.

I'm finding this user's actions very frustrating and comparable to censorship. I have previously issued warnings but that has not worked. Any advice on how to deal with this issue would be extremely helpful.

Thank you for your time."

Once again, thank you. Mark Choo

EVula's RfA

[edit]

Re: [4].

Hi Visviva, hope you don't mind my replying to you too much but I'm slightly confused by your comment. Bureaucratship isn't a position requiring as much trust as you seem to think. It requires more trust than adminship, yes. But it is difficult to misuse the position other than through very deliberate abuse - randomly making people admins or renaming then, for example. Being a checkuser on the other hand involves access to highly sensitive confidential material. This is reflected by the fact that the Foundation requires all checkusers to be over 18 and to confirm their real names to the Foundation. There is no such requirement for bureaucrats. Ultimately any action by a bureaucrat is undoable - either by another crat or a steward. If you think you would be able to trust EVula to be a checkuser, I would hope you could trust him to be a bureaucrat. The converse applies, if you can't trust someone to a crat you really shouldn't be willing to trust them to be a checkuser. Anyway hope that info is of some help in your deliberations about that RfB... WjBscribe 13:29, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, that makes things clearer. As to the shortage issue - there is certainly no shortage of bureaucrats to close RfAs or makebots. However, I have spent the last 4 months helping out with the user rename pages - WP:CHU and WP:CHU/U where I believe we do have a shortage of bureaucrats there (its not a popular task unfortunately). Effectively only 3 crats perform significant numbers of renames on a regular basis (Secretlondon, Nichalp and Rdsmith4). When they are away (as is happening quite often this summer) the rename backlog grows and I find it very difficult to find bureaucrats willing to do renames. The last time the backlog grew to about 12 days with about 60 accounts needing to be renamed. Most of the time the work falls to Secretlondon, who is understandably tired of performing renames... The workload on those pages does seem to leading to crats getting burned-out. I would argue that this leads to a real need for at least one more pair of hands on the crat team. Personally I think EVula's humour tends to diffuse rather than inflamme situations, but I understand if he's just not the right choice for you. I know my life in keeping renames happening smoothly would be helped by having another crat though :-). WjBscribe 18:47, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since you had involved into it in regards to this upcoming Wikidocumentary film by Nic Hill, so please do help out and try not to hesitate to voice out your advocated opinion! Otherwise without you commenting about it, this article would never had existed. Pole Heinz Tower 14:48, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, some trigger-happy editor seems to have deleted Duk today. I was notified by some bot which told me to comment, but when I got to the page it was already gone. I don't know what was in that article since it was deleted within hours, and no post was made to that page's "Discussion" page either. Needless to say, I'm very concerned about this deletion and wonder if you're able to examine the page to see what was there before. Thanks very much, Badagnani 01:09, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I appreciate it; I wish that deleter had taken the time to look through the page history and consult before doing what s/he did. One does encounter the spelling "duk" (no matter how wrong it is) for "tteok" quite often, so I agree that the redirect is an important one to have. Badagnani 18:55, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Change of infobox color

[edit]

Hello, some editor is apparently attempting to change all the Korea infoboxes from light purple to blue. There's a poll at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Korea, if you are interested. Badagnani 19:16, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your comment; if you do indeed prefer CCF (the light purple color), you can express that at "Poll 2" just below. At the moment I am the only one who wishes to retain the color we've always used. Best, Badagnani 23:27, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Knu logo.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Knu logo.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Esrever 06:48, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I suggested to Edene about merging {{Koreanruler}} into {{Koreanname}}, since the two templates appear to be largely synonymous. However, there was some concern that the names in this template are perhaps supposed to be in a specific order. Since you certainly know more about this than me, do you see any problems with a merge, or would it be better to keep this template seperate? PC78 10:35, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, it's not like there's any rush to have it done. :} Perhaps I should mark the template as deprecated if there's no real need to use it anymore? PC78 23:26, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Long time no chat. How've you been? I decided that we don't really have enough articles of a decent standard, so have been looking at the Gyeongju article and getting ideas from that for the Suwon page, on which I've been doing a bit of work lately. I just wondered if you could have a look at the Suwon page for me and suggest any directions in which you feel it needs to go. Thanks. JPBarrass 19:49, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've been through all the articles using this template, and in nearly all cases it was possible to replace it with {{Koreanname}}. None of them were using the {{{yob}}} or {{{yod}}} fields, and only Hyeonjong of Joseon uses {{{temple}}} - is this a feature that needs to be preserved, or can it be dispensed with? The only other article still using {{Koreanruler}} is Gwanggaeto the Great of Goguryeo - would it be appropriate to use the posthumous name as the primary name here?

On a similar note, I've been tinkering away at an update for {{Korean district}} (see here) that will allow it to supersede others such as Korean City and Korean Province etc. However, it seems to be creating an empty space at the top of some pages (like this, but not here), and I don't know why. Do you have any ideas?

Kind regards. PC78 18:02, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect of Jong-I Nara

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Jong-I Nara, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Jong-I Nara is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Jong-I Nara, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. I noticed that you started the Cuju article. Do you know of any scholarly books or journal papers that describe the rules of the game during the Song Dynasty. I realize that the article briefly touches on this, but it tends to be vague in some respects. --Ghostexorcist 21:59, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Hwasun logo.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Hwasun logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:24, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Previous Contribution

[edit]

Hello Visviva, I wanted to warn and ask for some help from previous contributor to pages regarding SKY, Korea University and now Sungkyunkwan university. There is a user who has been misquoting me and threatening to make edits to the latter I am afraid may be vandalism. Unfortunately I have reached the end of my rope with this user, and I suggest that if you may want to either provide another opinion or translation services (some sources that are only available in Korean) I'm sure it would be appreciated. Thanks, and sorry for bothering you if you're particularly busy! Epthorn 16:06, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 15:49, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject:CJKV disambiguation pages

[edit]

Hello Visviva

Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#CJKV disambiguation pages. We are planning a DAB project, to handle CJKV / Chinese characters. (七夕, 財閥, and are good examples of such Dab.)

Nihonjoe has suggested this project to be a joint taskforce between WP:WPDAB, WP:ZH, WP:JA, WP:KO, and WP:VIET. Can you please join us and help set up WP:KO as one of the parents of this project? Thank you in advance, for your help.--Endroit (talk) 18:07, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
