Editing from China
It's bizarre; I'm easily editing my user page through an open source proxy -- but I can't edit normal pages or report vandalism -- granted I haven't tried editing other user pages so I still may be able to report vandalism, but it's a roundabout way of doing things. As things stand at the moment, guess it'll have to wait until I get back to Australia until I can edit things again. Australian Matt 17:13, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:...first_do_no_harm.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:...first_do_no_harm.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 10:14, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Home Sweet Homicide
Hi Matt: Thanks for adding the listing for this film. I think, though, it needs to be moved to a page called Home Sweet Homicide -- without the comma. If you check the lobby card you kindly provided, you'll see no comma... The film is based on a novel by a favourite writer of mine, and the title of that doesn't have the comma either. I think I can do this quickly and easily, leaving a redirect in place of the page currently there -- I just didn't want to surprise or anger you by doing it abruptly or without consultation. I'll leave you a while to see this, then take care of moving the material and the talk page boxes, if that's okay with you. Cheers! Accounting4Taste 06:34, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- No worries -- thanks for the heads up Australian Matt 06:39, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- Much obliged -- all taken care of. Sorry to be so fussy about a comma and thanks again for your cooperation. Accounting4Taste 06:43, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
University of Melbourne Scavenger Hunt
Some background on the re-creation: I allowed them to recreate the article, for AfD does not prevent recreation as long as it is not in the same state as before the deletion. The starters of the article claimed that the discussion did not receive attention from the users who specialize in events like the subject of the article, and that the subject is notable.
Anyway, once a prod is removed, you can initiate an AfD discussion. Follow the process at WP:AFD on how to do so. Singularity 06:42, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ok -- thanks: I'll sit back for a while Australian Matt 06:44, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, I recreated the page and was in the process of putting it into a "better" format etc. I'm more than happy to disucss the merits of it's deletion/creation etc. I just need some time to actually be able to make the changes to the site. I can't do those changes inside 1 afternoon.Chester Juck 04:57, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Melbourne
Since the article hasn't really changed since the AFD a few months ago, the arguments therein still stand, and I have deleted it again. Such pages qualify for speedy deletion (a re-creation of something that has been discussed and deleted in the past); if you find any, the most suitable tag is {{db-repost}}, preferably linking to the AFD debate in your edit summary. Thanks for the heads-up! >Radiant< 08:42, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:...first do no harm.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:...first do no harm.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 17:07, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

The results of the questionnaire will be published in next month's newsletter. If you know of any editors who have edited film articles in the past, please invite them to take part in the questionnaire. Please stop by and take a few minutes to answer the questions so that we can continue to improve our project. Happy editing!

Australian Football clubs
Hi, as you see, I've nominated two of your articles for deletion. I also came across Casuarina FC and Port Darwin FC while new pages patrolling, though I haven't nominated these since I realised they were all yours. I wonder if you have any further information. I've been unable to find anything resembling a WP:RS on them through google searches but you may have sources of which I'm not aware. As such, if you have any information that asserts notability, I would strongly advise you to add it in and take part in the deletion discussions listed in the template messages. For the record, nothing personal. Regards, HJMitchell You rang? 23:35, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hi -- no offence taken -- the clubs are in the 2nd tier of Australian football -- and have online coverage available in the Sunday Territorian - for example here and here and here. Soccerway.com also provides statistics for the teams. I've had my two cents in the deletion discussions - I haven't had a lot of time to add the sources into the articles - will do it when I can. Hope that helps :) Australian Matt (talk) 06:53, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- Ok - a source has been added to all the articles from the Northern Territory News. I aim to improve the articles with time - but it's a good start. Australian Matt (talk) 14:21, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi Matt. I've been seeing your name around a bit and you seem to be doing a great job on Australian content so I thought I'd give you rollback. The main condition is that it's only to be used on clear and obvious vandalism. Hope you find it useful on your wiki-travels! Cheers, Sarah 15:49, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Based in the suburb of Clifton Hill, Victoria, the Yarra Jets Womens Football Club was originally started by Harry Onsman and Emma Highwood in 2008. Proposed deletion of Tahnee Coppin
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Tahnee Coppin, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- Non-notable
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Orphaned non-free image (File:Yarra Jets logo.jpg)
Thanks for uploading File:Yarra Jets logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

National Liaison Committee
Hello, speedy deletion per CSD R3 does not apply because this has not been created as redirect, but was an article that you just converted into a redirect. --Tikiwont (talk) 14:01, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
- The problem is with this page - National Liaison Committee for International Students in Australia - after doing some research, the redirect should go to the site above, which I'll do now. I think it fell under the "misnomer" rule, and in fact both entities are now non-notable - but will work it out Australian Matt (talk) 02:11, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer
Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:45, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Hello. You recently added a citation to a book from the "Webster's Quotations, Facts and Phrases" series published by Icon Group International to this article. Unfortunately, Icon Group International is not a reliable source - their books are computer-generated, with most of the text copied from Wikipedia (most entries have [WP] by them to indicate this, see e.g. [1]).
I've only removed the reference, not the text it was referencing. A lot of similar references have been removed as they are circular references; many other editors have also been duped by these sources. Despite giving an appearance of reliability, the name "Webster's" has been public domain since the late 19th century. Another publisher to be wary of as they reuse Wikipedia articles is Alphascript Publishing. Fences&Windows 00:03, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks -- I didn't realise it was a reused article -- will look for a reliable source when I have the chance Australian Matt (talk) 12:33, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

The article Port Darwin FC has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Non-notable club, doesn't play in notable league or national cup competition
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. GiantSnowman 07:56, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

RE: June 2012
Thanks for your concern about my edits. I appreciate that you've taken the time.
National Labor Students remains the officially recognised student wing of the Australian Labor Party - it has a charter signed by the National General Secretary and National President, I've seen it.
The rough lineage of ALP-affiliated Labor student organisations goes the Australian Labor Student Federation (which collapsed in the late 1960s), then the Council of Australian Labor Party Students, followed by an ALP-administered move to create a 'broad church' National Organisation of Labor Students in the late 1980s. Labor Right members left en masse and formed an unofficial organisation called Student Unity in the early 1990s, but that doesn't change the fact that they exited the official ALP student section. National Labor Students is recognised as NOLS' successor organisation.
Labor Students is the youth section of Young Labor NSW if anything. Given that the vast number of Labor and ALP clubs remain affiliated to the official ALP-student wing National Labor Students instead, I think it would be fairer to call it a re-branding of Student Unity.
If you're looking for secondary supporting material, refer to Graham Hasting's book (It Couldn't Happen Here), several journal articles on the subject (http://www.campusactivism.org/server-new/uploads/byrne_l_towards_a_better_union.pdf) or just trawl through old copies of GreenLeft and you'll find a compendium of material.
I'll be correcting your edits shortly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.188.209.246 (talk) 13:19, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

WikiProject C-SPAN?
Greetings fellow Wikipedia editor -
I am leaving you this note because I have reason to believe that you are interested in C-SPAN. (I may have made this assumption based on your C-SPAN user box, or perhaps for some other reason.) If this is not an interest of yours, please feel free to read no further and delete this message.
If you are in fact someone who is interested in C-SPAN, then let me put forward an idea that I have been kicking around for a while. What if we started a C-SPAN WikiProject?
The parameters of this (potential) project are up for discussion, but it could include some or all of the following (as well as things that may occur to you that have not occurred to me):
- Creation, maintenance, and improvement of articles and lists directly related to C-SPAN and its programming.
- Use of C-SPAN programming in citations for various topics
- Inclusion of unique and targeted C-SPAN video links for various articles. (Doing this with respect for established guidelines at Wikipedia:External links.) (Example: If you are interested in the submarine USS Wyoming (SSBN-742), then having easy access to the eight hours of programming taped while a C-SPAN crew were guests on that submarine could also be of interest to you.)
- Inclusion of (and possible further creation of) templated links such as {{C-SPAN|laurabush}}, that will easily take article readers to a link of all C-SPAN Video Library links for the person about whom the article is about.
- What else?
I don't know exactly how far we may want to go, nor in what directions, but I do believe (as I have long noted on my user page) that C-SPAN and Wikipedia are both...
...fantastic vehicles for the free exchange of ideas and information in a non-sound-bite manner, and they both invite the participation of any parties (expert or amateur) who are interested in taking the time to absorb and/or contribute to the ideas and information offered. C-SPAN and Wikipedia go together like peanut butter and jelly, and I want to help give other Wiki users easy access to the great work that C-SPAN has done on a variety of topics.
Now, I should mention that I have never started a WikiProject before, and I do not know the best way to go about it. (Perhaps one of you do?) Let me offer one of my sandbox pages, User:KConWiki/sandbox/Wikiproject C-SPAN?, as a gathering area for comments until such time as we gather enough steam to start our own WikiProject page.
Thanks for reading this far, and I hope that you will give some consideration as to whether this is something we ought to attempt. Please feel free to pass this message on to others you know whom might be interested, and please let me know your thoughts and comments.

Election order
Hi. I don't necessarily think the order is unnecessary or not useful, I just think it's in the wrong place. The proper place for this sort of thing would seem, to me, to be in the election article, or in a more detailed election history section further down the page. The members lists are for just that, listing members, and by having them jump around in the table depending on which order they were elected each time makes it really hard to follow. I don't think you can expect a novice to know that they should be looking for people to show up in different columns, despite serving continuous terms. Plus, these multi-member tables end up huge enough as it is; streamlining and ease of reading should be the goal. Frickeg (talk) 10:23, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, I agree with Frickeg here. The Drover's Wife (talk) 08:55, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Elections and Referendums article tagging
Hi Matt. Sorry to have to post directly on your talk page, but you may have noticed (on the WP:Elections and referendums talk page) that I am trying to get all the election and referendum articles tagged for the project. Unfortunately this is not making any progress, as people are claiming there is no consensus to do this, as no-one has responded on the Project talk page. Could you possibly comment on the proposal at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Elections and Referendums#Bot to tag articles for the WikiProject, as I'm getting rather frustrated by the attitude of the people at WP:BTR. ArbCom 2018 election voter message
Hello, Australian Matt. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 2 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Orphaned non-free image File:Logo-hellenic.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Logo-hellenic.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:28, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
Unblock request
Vanished user 102938r2 (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
Hello! I am receiving a block notice when I try to edit pages - I accessed my login at a hospital and Wikipedia is stating that I am User:BartsHealth. This is not the case! Let me know if you need any information from me, thanks and regards Australian Matt (talk) 19:37, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
Decline reason:
Try editing again - from what I can tell the autoblock has been cleared. PhilKnight (talk) 21:45, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hi PhilKnight thanks for your help - no luck, it still says "Editing from BartsHealth has been blocked (disabled)", while I am logged in as here Australian Matt (talk) 23:55, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
- Sorry, no clue as to why this is. I suggest you write another unblock request and someone more clueful than me will hopefully help you. PhilKnight (talk) 13:03, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
- That's strange - I now seem to be able to edit again! All good, thanks for your help PhilKnight Australian Matt (talk) 23:07, 27 December 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Fouta.JPG
A tag has been placed on File:Fouta.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file licensed as "for non-commercial use only", "no derivative use", "for Wikipedia use only", or "used with permission"; and it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:
- state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
- add the relevant copyright tag and if necessary, a complete fair use rationale.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
