Untagged image

An image you uploaded, Image:Fontenay-le-comte.jpg, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 18:27, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Barga.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Hello,

I have posted an article (Dessy Dobreva), but it was deleted already 3 times. I tried everything I could do to prevent it form deletion following the advises from some of the users of Wikipedia.org (please see the messages below), but the article was deleted every time I posted it.

The article is from a website for which content I hold the rights. My understanding was that in that case I can use the text and publish it on Wikipedia.org. The last time when I tried to post the article I even wrote a note explaining that the content is from that website and I have the rights for everything on it.

Could you please let me know what I need to do so that article can appear on Wikiedia? I was suggested to write to you and ask for the article to be undeleted because it was truly not a copyright violation (Please see the last message).

Thank you !

The Dessy Dobreva article Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions to the Dessy Dobreva article, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

Feel free to re-submit a new version of the article. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I irrevocably release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later, for use on Wikipedia and elsewhere."

You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here. You can also leave a message on my talk page. Valrith 22:39, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE: article copyrights If you own the copyright, and you want to put that article on Wikipedia, all you need to do is change its license to GFDL or Public Domain.

Then you can copy it to wikipedia (if you made it GFDL you need to credit your site somehow, possibly in the "external links" section) and if someone deletes it you can show them that it was under a free license and they should un-delete it.

I hope this answers your questions. If not please just ask what you don't know, i'm always here to help!

GeorgeMoney (talk) 19:47, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Apparently it was deleted as being a copyright violation of http://www.sonicbids.com/epk/epk.asp?epk_id=35087. So if you do own the copyright to that, you might want to put somewhere on that page "This page is licensed under the GFDL". Then you can talk to the deleting admin, UkPaolo (talk • contribs • blocks • protects • deletions • moves) and ask for the article to be undeleted because it was truly not a copyright violation. The article Human cheese is now better sourced, with information from a newspaper column by Dan Savage. You may want to take a look at the current version of the Human cheese article and perhaps change your vote. --Eastmain 18:32, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Prod of Viadeo

Hi! I saw that you put a prod tag on the article Viadeo. I disagree somewhat with your reasons, though I'm not certain the article is really salvageable. If you strip off the first sentence, there is a claim that they have over 1 million members; this makes Viadeo notable, if it's true. If one searches for links to www.viadeo.com, there are a number of hits, though not much in the way of news articles. The primary problem with notability is that it looks like a primarily French site, and so any interesting or usable references will be in French. However, the article does read like a press release, and there are no reliable sources for their claim of 1 million members, so I'm not going to remove the prod tag. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Argyriou (talkcontribs) 18:17, 24 January 2007 (UTC).

Coffee Bean Bears deletion...

Hi, I recently spent all day putting up an article about a product called Coffee Bean Bears. I have been collecting this product for three years now, and was surprised to see that there was nothing on Wikipedia about it. My first article I pulled off their website, which I understand now was considered advertising. It was quickly deleted. So i went back and read the rules and started over. This time, I took the time describing the product from top to bottom in my own words, no advertising at all. Yet it was still deleted. There are so many other entries talking about toys, or plush or any number of other things that you could buy in a store, yet the entry that I did was singled out by you and deleted. I would appreciate an explanation as to why what I did was any different from these others entries, this way I could fix it and resubmit it. Thank you, Ramon Delpecchio —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mrthefrog (talkcontribs) 01:31, 31 January 2007 (UTC).

User talk page deletion

I notice that you deleted a user talk page -- one that was chockful of warnings at that. Was there a reason? --Calton | Talk 03:54, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

I deleted it thinking it an article in main space, not user space, my apologies.
No problem. Okay, that makes sense, given how frequently the guy was moving pages in and out of mainspace/userspace/fake namespace (that is, moving to non-existent user names). He was blocked indefinitely, so it's all moot now, but thanks for the explanation. --Calton | Talk 08:56, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for being so kind, and for those links. When I started Amanda's page I had never used this site before so I had to familiarize myself rather tediously. However, I have enjoyed playing with the tools in Wikipedia and will definitely stay! Thanks again, Crash25 16:34, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Article Soundbyte

Why have you deleted my article Saoundbyte from wikipedia???? Just don't understand! Somerton 17:32, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi there, I deleted your article on the band Soundbyte under our speedy deletion criteria A7: Unremarkable people, groups, companies and web content. An article about a real person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject. Basically, a young Saxophone Band located in Harrogate N. Yorkshire. is not sufficiently notable (per our guidelines at WP:MUSIC) for inclusion in a global encyclopaedia (or at least, if it is, the article failed to establish the band's notability per these guidelines). Your edits on the David Rankin page

Dear UkPaolo,

I just noticed that you removed the images from the Wikipedia article on David Rankin. Was there some problem with the images? The copyright holder consented to having the images online.

Thanks for shedding some light on this. Can you possibly email me at pblovett@yahoo.com

No problem -- Paulley

I have a quick question about this edit to New (song). I'm a little confused about why you changed U.S. to US; Wikipedia:Manual of Style (abbreviations) states that U.S. should be used. ShadowHalo 09:53, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

No problem. Would you mind if I went through the edits where you did change it from U.S. and change it back (just the U.S. part)? I don't want it to seem like Wikistalking by going through your contributions. ShadowHalo 10:05, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I noticed that you also changed it to [[United Kingdom|UK]]. Just for future reference, it's best not to use a piped link when the text is a redirect (Wikipedia:Redirect#Don't fix links to redirects that aren't broken). Sorry if I'm being nitpicky, just trying to help for any more contributions you make with AWB. ShadowHalo 10:12, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi UkPaolo. Some time ago, I wanted to register to English Wikipedia under the same user name as I use in the German Wikipedia (i.e. Leyo). Complaint

Dear UKPaolo. I do not need to be rude, but why are you trying to destroy the hard work of myself and others regarding articles such as Comic Relief Does The Apprentice? Myself and other members-most of them members of WikiProject The Apprentice UK-have been working hard trying to build up and establish articles and templates like these and suddenly you make drastic changes that quite frankly butcher the articles without even consulting the talk page involved or the WikiProject talk page. I find this quite an insult to not only mine, but other user's hard work. If you are interested in the subject please join the WikiProject, as I invited you to before. Hopefully, you, myself and the rest of the members can vote/decide/agree to disagree on what edits should be made to what articles. As I said at the beggining, I do not mean to be rude. Thank you for your co-operation on this matter. I trust that you will reply on my talk page.

Trinny Woodall image

Hi there. I noticed that you tagged the image on Trinny Woodall's article (and quite rightly so), but I have such problems in distinguishing what is fair use and what isn't. I have done some searching on google but it's such a jungle and so many images, I simply don't know what is able to be used here on Wikipedia. I have found these and not sure if we are able to use them or not picture 1 and picture 2. And are we able to use screen shots such as this one;picture 3? Hopefully you will be able to help me find a picture for the Trinny Woodall article, if you've got the time to spare that is. Many thanks. Eagle Owl 11:38, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

I accidentaly posted this on Dalejenkins' userpage as I was looking at two talk pages at the same time and just posted it on the wrong page! Too many distractions! Thank you very much for your good advice. Many thanks again. Eagle Owl 12:23, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Looking at the pictures that you suggested I think that this one; [1] would be most appropriate and could be added to Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine's articles if we could modify. But if I'm being honest, I wouldn't know where to start in getting the free licence, but I've noticed articles such as Anna Wintour and Anna Nicole Smith both have got permission from someone on flickr to show pictures on Wikipedia. I won't follow up that flickr picture yet as I'm totally hopeless with images and will probably get too confused! Thanks for your good advice anyway, regards. Eagle Owl 15:33, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi UKPaolo, maybe you would like to also add {{Composers}} once you are editing composers articles' talk pages? Best regards, BNutzer 15:19, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Image:Sir Alan Sugar apprentice.jpg

Why did you put a tag on the above image. It was released by the BBC Press office as a promotional image for Sir Alan Sugar. There are many articles with this type of image yet no action has been taken - this is because they are fairly placed on wikipedia - just like Image:Sir Alan Sugar apprentice.jpg. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Olz06 (talkcontribs) 21:08, 4 April 2007 (UTC).

"There are many others" is no excuse. --Deskana (ya rly) 21:22, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
With regard to Image:Sir Alan Sugar apprentice.jpg, I tagged the image as being uploaded to Wikipedia under fair use grounds, yet being replaceable. Whether the BBC press office has released the image or not is not of concern here since they still legally retain copyright, and have not released it under a free license. We can therefore only include it on Wikipedia if doing so could be considered fair use under US copyright law, and then only in accordance with our policy. Our policy at WP:FU makes clear that the first consideration in using a fair use image is that no free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information. The photograph in question is of Sir Alan Sugar, a living person, and is used in an article to illustrate him. This means it would be perfectly possible for somebody to take a photo of him, and to choose to license that photo under a free license. Whether that is easy is of no interest, the fact that the image could be replaced means that it should be deleted in accordance with our policies. If you dispute the policy, you'd best discuss it elsewhere. If you've found other images of a similar nature uploaded, feel free to tag them for deletion. Their inclusion is no justification to upload more. I hope this explains things... UkPaolo/talk 21:40, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Matthew Bogdanos

Hello, I have been working on this bio of Matthew Bogdanos and have recently visited the site and saw that a personal photo of his on the web page was taken down. How can I restore this without fear of further deletion? Thanks so much....

Peggy Anne Zack —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Peggyzack (talkcontribs) 14:51, 5 April 2007 (UTC).

Hi, you'll need to find (or take yourself) a photograph licensed under a free license - you can't just copy a photo of any old website on the internet, since it's almost certainly copyright (even if released as part of a press kit). Once uploaded, the image will need it's source and license explicitly added to the image page. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for more info, or feel free to post a response if this isn't clear. UkPaolo/talk 15:17, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Matthew Bogdanos

Hello, thanks for your speedy reply. Matthew himself provided this photo of Don Bosco speech to me and it is his own photo, it did not come from a website. How can I add this? Under the Free License tag?

Thanks

Thanks, Dale. Only just noticed the copyright violation, and don't have a chance to replace it with anything better myself at the moment. At least [1] can be used as a reliable source to be referenced in any re-written description. This BBC news article may also prove useful as a good reference, as might [2], [3], [4], [5] - all recent press articles. Cheers, UkPaolo/talk 18:02, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Saira khan.jpg deletion

You tagged Saira khan.jpg with a fair use template and it is said that it was to be deleted on 17 March 2007, yet no action has been taken. Should it be deleted, which i see no reason for, or should it be kept, and the template deleted - which i am in favour of. Saira khan.jpg Olz06 17:20, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Saira khan image

I only wanted to know what action would be taken - not the whole bluddy magna carta. Please feel free to tag any image but to encourage or take action, in this case delete it on the grounds as a replacable image, on the day or around the time it is due to be deleted rather than just leave it lying around.
