Biographies
[edit]My plan to is to write biographies for two notable persons from Leicester - Carol Leeming and Jude Richardson. Both meet criteria for notability.TrevorGlynLocke (talk) 09:45, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- If you were starting to learn engineering, would you make your first project to build a car from scratch? If you took up a musical instrument, would you arrange a public recital as the first thing you did? No, you would practise on less demanding projects while you learnt the craft.
- I would very strongly advise you that you will save yourself a great deal of frustration and disappointment if you forget about creating a new article for several months, while you gradually learn about how Wikipedia works (and most particularly about Verifiability, reliable sources, and Neutral point of view) by making improvements to some of our six million existing articles. Theroadislong (talk) 10:19, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- Take the time to read WP:BACKWARD and WP:BLP. Citing sources correctly is essential, I really can't stress this enough. WP:TUTORIAL has guidance on how. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:31, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
Welcome!
[edit]Welcome!
Hello, TrevorGlynLocke, and welcome to Wikipedia! I have noticed that you are fairly new! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. I also see that some of your recent edits show an interest in the use of images and/or photos on Wikipedia.
Did you know that ...
- ...Wikipedia has a very stringent image use policy?
- ...most images from Flickr, online news websites, and other web sources are copyrighted?
- ...Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously?
- ...freely-licensed images should be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, a central location for images where they can be used on all Wikipedia projects?
- ...we recommend that new users use our "files for upload" process – at least until you get the hang of things?
If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{Help me}}
on your talk page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

- Many thanks. I am learning as quickly as possible about the regulations which must be used. I hope to have a serious draft very soon. TrevorGlynLocke (talk) 09:17, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

[edit]...in leaping into acticle creation, see WP:YFA and WP:42 for guidance on how to create and then submit a draft, and quality of references. Also Help:Referencing for beginners. http://www.transculturalwriting.com/Grassroutes/content/Carol_Leeming.htm may be a useful ref, but not the interview part. - And see WP:GNG and WP:MUSIC for what Wikipedia defines as notable. David notMD (talk) 14:32, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- Version 1 of my draft entry for Carol Leeming has now been postyed in my sandbox. TrevorGlynLocke (talk) 07:39, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

[edit]- There was an article on Carol Leeming which was boldly cut down to a redirect in 2018, which contained the unsourced statement that Leeming is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts. Is that a well-known and significant honor, as described in biographical criterion 1? If so, please provide a reliable source for that statement, and rework this draft. [edit]{{help me}} Please help me with... moving forward with my draft biography of Carol Leeming which I have placed in my sandbox.TrevorGlynLocke (talk) 12:23, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- It would be better if you edited the draft here Draft:Carol Leeming rather than in your sandbox. Theroadislong (talk) 12:28, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks. I am looking at this now. TrevorGlynLocke (talk) 12:42, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
Starting again
[edit]I have begun to draft a new entry; cutting down where I think there could be problems and making sure everything is referenced where it needs to be with suitable links. I have looked at similar biographies that have already been published, noting style and how criteria has been applied on things like person of note. When finished, should I then publish the revised edition in my sandbox? Or take another way of sharing it, or what? TrevorGlynLocke (talk) 10:59, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

Circular references
[edit]Hello, please note that we can't use Wikipedia to reference itself: please see WP:Circular. You can link to Staxx of Joy in Carol leeming, but it can't be used as a reference. Thanks, Wikishovel (talk) 19:07, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi TrevorGlynLocke! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. ~Darth StabroTalk/Contribs 20:01, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
I'm begging you. Please, please read Help:Referencing for beginners. Thank you. Wikishovel (talk) 20:14, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
Right-hand boxes
[edit]How can I add a box to the right-hand side of a page to give biographical summary of a person such as that shown on this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Lenner? TrevorGlynLocke (talk) 14:26, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
