Encyclopedia Britanica Blunders
Hi Deepujoseph, I wish to bring this talk page to your attention. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Kerala/Encyclop%C3%A6dia_Britannica%27s_blunders I am from Calicut Cruxit 17:47, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Kerala page
Hello Deepujoseph, I see you asking for a reason for my edit to Kerala. The reason "God's Own Country" is not linked in the Kerala article is because it would take you to this page. That clearly shows that there is a country that has been known as God's Own Country for over 100 years. Kerala has only "recently" adopted the slogan, so what is wrong with saying so, as I did when I posted 'The Kerala tourism industry has adopted the slogan "God's own country".' ? I think that is more to the point than 'Kerala is often described as "God's own country".' . Cheers. Moriori 21:38, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- "God's own country" (or rather its Malayalam translation) has been in use in Kerala to descibe the state for a long time. And it is not just natural beauty that gained it the name. You will find that Kerala is demographically different from the rest of India in many ways (There is lesser poverty, almost cent percent literacy, better life standards, health, life expectancy, et al). Several factors which (probably) resulted as a consequence of the so called Kerala model of development, has gained it this name. The state is quite unique among third world countries. The tourism department just translated the slogan and used it for promotions. -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK 05:33, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
- I am aware of what you are saying. You actually make my point for me. The Kerala tourism dept adopted this slogan in very recent times, so it was correct for me to edit the article to read "The Kerala tourism industry has adopted the slogan "God's own country".' Also, I really don't think that God's Own Country should be included in a section that discusses the historic name/s of Kerala. Further down the article perhaps? Moriori 05:47, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
- My point here, is that it is not the tourism department that gave the title to the state. Lets take an example: Kochi has for centuries been known by the sobriquet — "Queen of the Arabian Sea". The same title is used to promote the city in tourism ads. In such a case, saying "The tourism industry of Kochi uses the slogan 'queen of the arabian sea'" in an article about Kochi, would be misleading; because it is a sobriquet that has been in existence even before a tourism industy was set up. I hope you get the idea more or less. And that is the reason I reworded it as "Kerala is often described as God's own country". -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK 09:36, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

You said: "Hello Yamla. You had recently blocked Ravi5099 (talk · contribs) for violation of the 3RR rule on the Joseph Vijay article. He was a newbie, and was unaware of the rules. I just received an email from him, asking for his ban to be lifted. He now understands the rule, and would like to contribute more to wikipedia, he says. Also, the user who requested a ban on him, has a *ahem* very popular history. Thanks, and cheers!"

It's actually pretty good, but needs a summary. Remove non-essential data, cut min 8kb, and you'll be home. Merge Sports with culture. =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:44, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
- PS. All proper nouns need to be wikified and stubbed. =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:44, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
- Hehe, I told you about all the names! Cutting out 8 kb - that will be really tough. Nichalp, that 48 kb contains a lot of citations, so size could be a bit flexible I guess.--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:24, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
What I know about movies is strictly restricted to old movie songs but I don't think there is much movie related activity in the Kochi area. The studios are all in Tvm and Alleppey. There is an impression outside Kerala that we make a lot of porn movies but that does not deserve more than a line or two in the article about Malayalam cinema and none in the Kochi article.
Not sure about the niua link. The figures in the articles about other cities don't seem to have any relation with the stats given in that page. It maybe better for us to stick with the Corporation figures. Tintin (talk) 08:58, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Pythagorean Stuff
Hello there,
My name is Michael Wallace from Number Harmonics. I noted very little info on Music Healing at Wikepdia and have put up a little information under new headings of "Music Healing" and "Pythagorean Tone Healing"
To give you an idea of my personal background, I developed the www.numberharmonics.com site and pioneered the research in reawakening the Pythagorean techniques in both Number Analysis, Divination and Music Therapy.
Basic reference Web Pages from the Number Harmonics Stable are: www.pythagorus.org.uk www.numberharmonics.com www.divinitydice.com
I have always found Wikipedia of of the really interesting resources on the web, and appreciate being able to contribute in some small way.

Hi
Hey how are you? Doing fine? How is Kochi? I was infrequent here for last few days. By the way, please pay a visit to Darjeeling (the land of thunderboltz) that I have recently put in peer review. --Dwaipayan (talk) 05:04, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- Trim up a bit? Per Nichalp, Kochi needs major trimming! IMO, Ladakh may need that too. Ahmedabad is not making any recent changes. I thought many Indian city/geographical articles will move to FAC consecutively. Delhi is also not developing. Let's see. With the recent concerns about India-related FACs, we should be as careful as possible. IIT really needed some copyedit. The problem is we lack excellent copyeditors like Tony. It's not possible for Nichalp to see all articles. Perhaps our use of Endlish is not upto the mark.--Dwaipayan (talk) 06:21, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- We do have a few other good copyeditors like Saravask and Sundar; we may need to force them to do it :-) Tintin (talk) 06:24, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oh yes, they are. But they are often busy with admin tasks. Basically imo we need to go slow. With every kind of reviews done. And 2 or 3 people working on an article, rather than the usual just one.
- And Deepu, our "Endlish" is not that bad, its our typing! --Dwaipayan (talk) 06:55, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Indian cricket team picture
A picture of the Eden Gardens cricket stadium has been deleted or something. But I don't know how or when it was deleted, the article Indian cricket team now has a blank area where the picture is meant to be. I would appreciate it if you would explain to me on where I can see the history of an image and/or when it was deleted. Thanks. Nobleeagle (Talk) 06:28, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Kochi (again)
Hey Deepu,
Check out the Kerala article, some guy is claiming Kochi is not a metro, but a simple Google search prooves false. However, I just wanted to double-check with you. Is this guy correct? —Khoikhoi 19:19, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Kochi, Infobox Indian Jurisdiction
I'm impressed by your work at Kochi, but was wondering how {{Infobox Indian Jurisdiction}} can be restyled ... to better present Indian cities like Kochi. Could you comment on colors, styles, additional needed parameters or else go ahead and make changes to the template? Or will the standard grey box do? Thanks. Saravask 03:45, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
The World Gazetteer data looks very dubious. There is no way Chalakudi or Perumbavoor can be included in Kochi (Angamali is not included; if Chalakudi is in, it must be there too!)As you have noted, some of the entries are not even in the same Taluk, district or the Lok Sabha constitution. Also note that it has a seperate entry for Tripunithura as a city. I think we can safely ignore it.
EB says that the urban agglomeration includes "the localities of Trikkakara, Eloor, Kalamassery, and Trippunithura" and does not include Alwaye etc. If this definition is correct, can we say that the mayor is for the whole 'urban agglomeration' ?
If possible, please also check Malayalam editions of Manorama yearbook to see their interpretation. Tintin (talk) 07:13, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Re
Hi. Thanks for the praise. Good advice -- I'll add a skyline param and maybe re-add a colored header like the one that {{Infobox protected area}} has.
Some critique (sorry I forgot to put this at the PR):
- Kochi does need a substantial trim, especially "History" and "Culture" and possibly "Economy" and "Transport" also.
- Also try snipping out facts that are universally true regarding virtually all cities, e.g. remove "A number of newspaper publications and television stations are situated in the city" since the fact that it has newspapers does not make Kochi distinct. HOwever, the list of newspapers is distinct, so definitely list those.
- Also, when you post the artlcle for FAC, you'll likely get objections regarding "boosterism", bias, etc., so adjust wording like "enriched", etc.
- You need to include more info on more "negative" traits like crime, sex trade, drug abuse, poverty, etc. Also is Hindutva or other sectarism a problem in Kochi? Please include a few words on at least a few of these. Already have info on unemployment and sanitation problems, which is good.
PS: username is just contraction of real name, and I'm not Keralite (from Andhra Pradesh but living in the U.S.). But I definitely like Kerala and Keralites, since I know some people from there.
Good job with your work so far! Saravask 22:14, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Bhagat Singh picture
Hey, I talked to you above about the Indian cricket team picture. Well a similar event has occured, this time in Bhagat Singh. This was just a day after I posted on the Indian Noticeboard about uploading more Bhagat Singh related pictures. A short Esperanzial update
As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Goshree - गोश्री?
Hi, as you said, I think it is actually two words, go and shree. Shree like in Hindi and in many North Indian languages, means holy, beautiful, Lord, etc. in different contexts (just a good word!) It is the same shree in "Sri Lanka" which is properly pronounced as Shree Lanka. I am less confident about the word "Go," but I think it means cow. So, I think together it means holy cow, something which all Indians are familiar with, unless you live in Bengal or Kerala!
That would be my best guess. I only studied it at school for two years finishing last year. I still keep learning Sanskrit as a hobby but I don't have much time to take it seriously. Best wishes. GizzaChat © 11:45, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- I never knew Kochin's name might have come from Goshree! Anyway, I don't think I can find a better translation myself. It obviously has something to do with cows that are holy. I suggest you research it to get a better understanding. In the past, maybe it was a place where cows were prayed to and worshipped, which is a complete guess! But in a Wikipedia article, you need a bit more sure, so some reading would be required. GizzaChat © 02:35, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration/Irishpunktom/Evidence#Abuse_of_.22popups.22_script_on_related_articles a thing Tony did which I don't understand. This however is just a technical problem. Hi Deepujoseph. I saw the recent edits you made on the Preity Zinta and SRK article. I do not understand why you removed the images. How are they copy vio? The two pics had the copyright info. Removed Pictures: Shahrukh Khan & Preity Zinta
Hello, Joseph, I noticed you removed pictures from Khan's and Zinta's article because of copyright violation, yet the ictures weren't tagged as such. Why do they violate copyright? There aren't really any notability guidelines for places on Wikipedia. Usually all real places are notable, whether they're cities, villages or streets. In my opinion there's no harm in having the article here (since Wiki is not paper), and it might even be useful information for someone, so I'd like for it to be kept. You're the author though, so if you want the article can be speedily deleted per CSD G7. SO if you still want it deleted, just say the word and I'll do it. - ulayiti (talk) 04:28, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Agreed on moving the picture
I would like to see that picture(marinedrve.jpg) back on an appropriate section someday. That really represents the modern Kochi. I think there should be a section on the changing face of Kochi. And perhaps a section on landmarks.
Is there a template in Wikipedia, where we can randomly display one(at a time) image out of a set of images. That would be a terrfific solution where an article has an abundance of picture contributions..
