Hi Wikipedia people I am from the simple wiki I am presently a vandal fighter there, but would like to fight vandalism here instead, because I hear there are a lot more vandals here. Please tell me where to start and highlight all the possible tools.

Hi TheAnnonymousUser, and welcome to en-wiki. Thanks for volunteering to help clean up the encyclopedia. I've got an essay here that will give you a basic overview, and you might like to consider joining the Counter-Vandalism Unit's Academy as well. If you need a hand at any point, feel free to drop me a line. Yunshui  14:04, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, can't use Huggle like I used to in simple wiki, can't use igloo either. Twinkle is useless, I choose Stiki. Can you please tell me how it works (we don't have it on simple wiki).TheAnnoymousUser (talk) 14:30, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You do not need to use a tool. Just edit manually. See the link Yunshui provided. GtstrickyTalk or C 15:23, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid you don't have anything close to the prerequisites for Stiki yet (rollback rights or over 1000 article edits, IIRC). Your best bet would be to work manually for the time being (or install Twinkle, it's actually a very useful tool for anti-vandalism and many other tasks) and get a few hundred good reverts under your belt; then you can apply for rollback and thence Stiki, Igloo or whatever you prefer. Yunshui  20:34, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(incidentally, whilst the CVUA isn't a fast track to rollback, it may help you get there more smoothly) Yunshui  20:36, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I will use twinkle for a few weeks, but please give me roll ASAPTheAnnoymousUser (talk) 17:21, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism reverts

[edit]

Your vandalism reverts look fine to me, but at least in the case of the health care article, you should have warned the editor. If you look at his history, he has been a bit disruptive in the past. You might want to look at the warning I placed on his talk page. Gtwfan52 (talk) 17:48, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It looked good faith with the "A very dishonest statistic", I thought he just didn't agree with the content.17:50, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
You did nothing wrong, better to be conservative with accusations of vandalism. My point to you is to maybe dig a little deeper when reverting, as a look at the IP's talk page was enough to show his history of disruptive behavior. The level one warnings in Twinkle are not accusatory and it doesn't hurt to give one of those as a matter of course when reverting. BTW the source for the info he redacted was PBS, a generally trusted source. It takes a bit of doing it to get the feel for who is being disruptive (in this case, POV pushing), but you are doing well. Keep up the good work. Gtwfan52 (talk) 18:14, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, they're not annoying anyone: the Teahouse is there to answer your editing questions, however numerous they may be :) We would prefer answering all kinds of questions than see an editor left in doubt. Cheers, benzband (talk) 18:16, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion contested: A.W.A.T.

[edit]

Hello TheAnnoymousUser, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of A.W.A.T., a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: G1 only applies to patent nonsense (dthfthyjygjytjugk). G1 does not apply to foreign languages. . You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Electric Catfish 23:05, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A belated welcome!

[edit]

Here's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, TheAnnoymousUser. I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. Though you seem to have been successful in finding your way around, you may benefit from following some of the links below, which help editors get the most out of Wikipedia:

Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page, consult Wikipedia:Questions, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there.

Again, welcome! Gold Standard 20:10, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Answer to your question at the TH

[edit]

Hello again, TheAnnoymousUser! Twinkle is written in Javascript, which is a scripting language that works directly with your web browser to add extra functionality. Flash is a software framework, i.e. a set of tools that can be used by other software. Flash is mainly used with animation, video, and large web applications that cannot be easily scripted without it. Twinkle is none of these. All of its functionality is supported directly by all of the common browsers, and Javascript is just a way of telling your browser what to do.

If you have any further questions about this topic, post here and I will see them. hajatvrc @ 17:12, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I know it's java-script, but finding a script this good is rare, how does it's command lines work.TheAnnoymousUser (talk) 17:15, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Twinkle's source code, which can be found here is extremely long. If I had the time and desire to do so, I could go through it all and see how it works. But sometimes it is enough just to know that something works. hajatvrc @ 17:26, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you really have interest in scripting, Javascript is a great language to learn. I would say it is an excellent place to start in the world of scripting. hajatvrc @ 17:29, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I am doing python, thus I understand some of the indentations and commands, but not all.TheAnnoymousUser (talk) 17:32, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I LOVE PYTHON! It is by far my favorite language. It is very self-teachable and extremely powerful at the same time. I don't know where the world would be if it were not for Python. Every new programmer's dream. hajatvrc @ 17:35, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
But I have a LONG way to go!TheAnnoymousUser (talk) 17:39, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Adf.ly

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Adf.ly requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you.
