New messages
[edit]At our recent Teahouse thread, you asked "do you guys get notifications from my new messages?". The short answer is "no" but you may be interested in the longer answer. I note that you are a newbie but apologise that some of what I'm about to say may already be familiar to you.
On Talk Pages, you can draw someone's attention to the fact that you are replying to them (and expect they might like to comment again) using {{ping|NAME}}, which renders as @NAME (in blue) and alerts the other user after you "publish changes" provided you sign the addition with four tildes. That's a sort of summons but a perhaps politer way to do a similar thing is to use {{u|NAME}}, which renders as just NAME (in blue), a so-called "mention". On your Talk Page, I don't need to use a ping since the system is set up to automatically alert you whenever anyone adds something here. And etiquette says that we'll continue our conversation here: you don't reply to me on my Talk Page as that would fragment things.
That leads to the other part of your question. In the absence of a "ping" or a "mention", I would only be aware if you had added a new message/posting if I had the page on which we were interacting on my Watchlist and I was alert enough to check my watchlist for any change. For the Teahouse, that can be a little difficult as many people, myself included, have several sections of the Teahouse in which we may have made changes on any one day. For that reason, I do tend to ping/mention people in each section where I anticipate they'll want to see my reply and maybe comment back.
As to interactions on personal Talk Pages like this one, my usual convention is to add the page to my Watchlist with an expiry date of, say, 3 months. So you wouldn't need to ping or mention me here as this conversation develops: your Talk Page will update only rarely (I assume) and I'll notice. Another useful bit of etiquette is that if you wish to end our current chat with an "over-and-out" because you don't have anything else to add, you can just look at the edit history and "thank" me for my last edit (the options are undo | thank). I'll take that as an acknowledgement you have read my latest input and I could delete this page from my watchlist. If you wanted to reactivate a chat on another topic, you could then move to my Talk Page for that. Hope this helps and best wishes for your editing career! Non-free rationale for File:Frozen's Elsa but horrifyingly edited.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Frozen's Elsa but horrifyingly edited.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. This is possible copyright infringement, considering that the original image is owned by Disney. Also, it isn't in Wikipedia's scope and doesn't have a use on any articles. Please refrain from joke uploads in the future. Thank you. codingcyclone advisories/damages 05:46, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Quick Q
[edit]This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
Hi. I just want to ask if it is allowed to use profanity with some censoring, or if any type of profanity is disallowed. For example, I used 'a**hole' in the Teahouse because that's what I feel like right now. -Solarrrr... Send a message to Solar? Tappy tap tap! ⏰Time: 22:55, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not censored for any reason, so you don't necessarily need to censor profanity you use. (though you may want to consider that children use this publicly available website). Users must be civil with each other, though (I see that you were using the profanity on yourself and not others, just saying) so personal attacks on others using profanity are not permitted. 331dot (talk) 22:59, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

November 2021
[edit]Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Typhoon Wanda a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into List of storms named Wanda. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. - Is it against the rules, though? I get most of what you're trying to say here, but maybe clarify things a little more about CP moves. -Solarrrr... Send a message to Solar? Tappy tap tap! ⏰Time: 14:31, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, it is certainly against the rules! Please read WP:CPMOVE for more information on this subject. CycloneYoris talk! 23:33, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Enchanted Netherite Sword Left.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Enchanted Netherite Sword Left.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.
If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.
Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Vladlen Manilov ✉ / 14:01, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hello @Vladlen Vadimovich Manilov. I have gotten the image from custom-cursor.com, and I don't know where to find image copyright usage in this website. Note that I edited the image by cropping and erasing part of this image. Thank you for letting me know, I will take this into consideration the next time I upload. -Solarrrr... WikiProject Weather: Map Dot & Template/Infobox Colors
[edit]Dear project member, This message is being sent out to encourage new ideas and feedback on those proposed in regard to the colors debate for WikiProject Weather. For those who are unaware of what's been happening over the last year, I will give a brief summary. We have been discussing proposed changes to the colors of the dots on tropical cyclone maps and templates and infoboxes across the entire weather project in order to solve issues related to the limited contrast between colors for both normal vision as well as the various types of color blindness (MOS:ACCESS). We had partially implemented a proposal earlier this year, however, it was objected to by a number of people and additional issues were presented that made it evident this wasn't the optimal solution. We tried to come up with other solutions to address the issues related to color contrast, however, none of them gained traction and no consensus was generated.
We need your help and I encourage you to propose your own scale and give feedback on those already listed. Keep in mind that we are NOT making a decision on any individual proposal at this time. We are simply allowing people to make proposals and cultivate them given feedback from other project members. Please visit our project page for additional details. The proposal phase will close no later than December 31st at 23:59 UTC. NoahTalk 03:51, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
