Edits to Sramana Mitra
Dear Sohom, two categories I added to the page Sramana Mitra were quite aligned with her profile - Entrepreneurship and MIT alumni. Any specific reason for removing those? With suitable categories linked, the profile will get more visibility. Saikatblogger (talk) 07:11, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
- I think I edited a older version of the article which caused the removal. Feel free to add the category. Sohom Datta (talk) 06:50, 10 July 2020 (UTC)

Wrt: paid editing
Sorry, I was occupied due to festivity. Just saw the template you left in my talk page. I got to know about paid editing from the template. I have been fighting spam and vandalism primarily at WP. From now on I will try to fight paid editing too. I see it needs much experience to judge such cases. also it seemed first such template used by you. Is this your first wp account? --☆★Mamushir (✉✉) 21:40, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
- Cool. Imma take your word for it. Wrt to the account, this is certainly my first account unless you count some non-substantial edits I made to Wikipedia as an IP address in 12th grade. Sohom Datta (talk) 02:53, 7 November 2020 (UTC)
@Mamushir: (pinging you since I've realized that I forgot to do it in the comment above) Sohom Datta (talk) 13:34, 7 November 2020 (UTC)
Explanations Please
Hello there, you left this at the talk page of Mamushir, insinuating they may engaging in UPE & my question is why would you presume such if I may ask? If the reasons are ones you can’t discuss on-wiki then you may send me a mail as to why but if it can discussed here then please do so. Furthermore you are strongly advised not to directly edit articles you have COI's with, rather, you are to suggest changes at the talk page of the article. Celestina007 (talk) 23:18, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
- I'll be willing to discuss over email. Feel free to send an email to sohom.dattalearner.manipal.edu so that I can ping you back/send the details. Wrt conflict of interest, I recently re-read the COI guidelines and realized that just declaring it is not enough. I'll certainly only suggest edits to the institution's pages from now on. Sohom Datta (talk) 02:49, 7 November 2020 (UTC)
- To sort of explain everything, it basically requires me to reference stuff not on wikipedia which AFAIK is prohibited.(I think) Sohom Datta (talk) 02:59, 7 November 2020 (UTC)
@Celestina007: (pinging you since I've realized that I forgot to do it in the comment above) Sohom Datta (talk) 13:32, 7 November 2020 (UTC)
- I think, for transparency and dispelling any confusion or doubt its better to keep things openly accessible. I may be wrong, but I think, nothing restricts us to refer other stuffs on wiki. Especially, when it involves me as a subject and I do not have any problem. Lastly, with the spirit of Wikipedia which is an open forum, I think its better to keep things openly accessible. Besides I am curious to know the basis of your presumption as Celestina questioned. --☆★Mamushir (✉✉) 20:46, 7 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Mamushir: and @Celestina007: Cool since both of you are asking me to keep everything public, I'll go ahead.
- REDACTED
- Contrary to what you just stated, my very first entry implied if you couldn’t discuss this on-wiki you should send me an email instead. Anyway, your evidence seems very interesting I must say, I think I’d take it from here. Celestina007 (talk) 20:42, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
- Cool, will keep that in mind for any other issues related to off wiki stuff. Also, thanks for taking a look. Sohom Datta (talk) 02:50, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
- It appears your evidence was substantial enough for a very pertinent action to be taken. Thank you for observing & reporting such, if you suspect more foul play by any editor anywhere you could leave me a message in my email & if you have cogent evidence of undisclosed paid editing you might report it straight to by e-mailing @MER-C. Thank you once again for countering undisclosed paid editing. Celestina007 (talk) 19:28, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
- Was there? It was me who revdeled the report both here and on my talk page because you asked for it and I agree it should not have been posted publicly. Mamushir remains unblocked. Please send the evidence to paid-en-wp wikipedia dot org. MER-C 19:32, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted
Hi Sohom Datta. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:
- Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
- If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
- Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline.
- Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any steps.
- Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. – Joe (talk) 09:21, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

Graph extension
Hey I saw your helpful comment on the RFC and wanted to discuss. You're correct about specific technical blockers when it comes to the current Graph extension. It's probably impossible to make it secure. It feels like the Foundation could invest in a Community Wishlist team being able to build some kind of secure graphing feature for MediaWiki though. Like why can't we natively add graphing libraries that don't require calling an insecure third party resource? The underlying need of visualizing graphs is a real one that needs a solution, agnostic to whether it's specifically the existing extension or something else. - @Steven Walling Graphs in general are pretty hard to generate (D3.js which is the state of the art in graphing libraries is over 290kB minified, (for comparism, Wikimedia ships around 28kB of JS per page load). and will definitely require calling some third party libraries somewhere. Building our own graphing libraries will take a massive amount of effort not to mention that it will lead to much severe problems if not maintained properly :(
- I think the current approach is arguably the better one (use sandboxed third-party resources), however, I definitely agree that using a more up-to-date graphing library would be a nice additional safety net (not to mention the new features that could be added).
- I think the second part could be proposed in the next Community Wishlist Survey (provided the current Graph extension is up and running by the end of the year) and is something that the Community Wishlist team could work on even with it's current funding status (based on my understanding). Update to Prosus Wikipedia page
Hi Sohom. I work on the communications team at Prosus and see that you have previously updated/made edits to the Prosus Wikipedia page. I'm getting touch because the current CEO mentioned on the Prosus Wikipedia page is incorrect. Bob van Dijk is no longer CEO of Prosus and Ervin Tu is the current interim CEO. Please see links below to news sources from Reuters, Bloomberg and TechCrunch confirming this. Would it be possible to update the page?

- Hey, sorry for the late reply, feel free to make a edit request on the talk page of the article. I'm not very familiar with that article and would not like to be updating it. Regards, Sohom (talk) 06:44, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
New Page Reviewer granted (extending trial by a month)
Hey man im josh (talk) 00:22, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Cross-site leaks
The article Cross-site leaks you nominated as a good article has failed ; see Talk:Cross-site leaks for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of the article. Tag removal on Syntax section of V
Hi Sohom Datta,
I have removed your tag, after providing citations for the syntax used. I have also updated the safety and memory management sections with citations and removed the bulleted list style. Please review if sufficient, will strive to make corrections or improvements, and feel free to make suggestions. Thank you for your time and consideration in advance. Wukuendo (talk) 07:09, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
- I'm not really sure about the safety section, again it must not be a inline numbered list, but rather full sentences . The rest looks fine to me on a first glance. Sohom (talk) 09:04, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Cross-site leaks
The article Cross-site leaks you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Cross-site leaks for comments about the article, and Talk:Cross-site leaks/GA2 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. About that undo
Any reason we can't keep the example but adding a comment suggesting the compiler error? that code snippet is supposed to explain how lifetimes have to do with the scope of a variable, and there is a sentence below that does say that that example fails to compile. 0xDeadbeef→∞ (talk to me) 11:33, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- @0xDeadbeef I did not see your message till I had finished my edit, I had a similar idea and decided to modify the code so that it compiles and then add a note saying that it was copied from X and has been modified to compile properly since it was being used in a different context. Let me know if that works :) Sohom (talk) 11:40, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Looks good to me. thanks for working on this! 0xDeadbeef→∞ (talk to me) 12:18, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
DYK for Cross-site leaks
On 14 November 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Cross-site leaks, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that cross-site leaks can be used to gain information about your web browsing habits? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Cross-site leaks. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Cross-site leaks), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Spelling of defense
Just so you know, I'm fine with using American spelling, but it does violate RETAIN since the article is not America-centric. If no one objects it won't matter, though. If you do change the spelling back, also change it in the body of the article, and beware that someone might revert you. My apologies if I came across as rude, though! Best, -- RockstoneSend me a message! 18:58, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Rockstone35 I'm going to think/mull it around a bit and then make a descision. I do not have a preference for eithier as well, and given that I am basically the only major prose contributor, I don't think there are going to be any objections eithier way. Also, you did not come across as rude, I was agitated at that point about something onwiki (and offwiki as well) which probably led to some of it translating into the text I was writing.
