Sailing at the 1972 Summer Olympics – Soling et al
Hi, I'm very happy with the changes you did on the gender part. However I am not too happy with the combined columb of the crew. By doing that the information on who was helming and who was crewing is lost. The added value of crew and helmsman in a regatta is probably equal but the role is different. Like in soccer you want to know who was keeper and who was in the front. I will change the format of the 1972 Soling including the helmsmen column and using your gender tagging. Than lets talk. Okay?NED33 (talk) 10:28, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
- I changed the templates according to your suggestions, but I think it's common way of writing is that the helmsman is the first if several crew members are listed. Smartskaft (talk) 16:06, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry that I was at the same time tweeking your templates. Thanks for the modifications. Unfortunitely race organizers and even the iSAF is not consistent in naming the helmsmen first. In the 60s equality for crewmembers was forced upon sailing :-) but then valuable info was destroyed. It took me quite a while to figure this out of the 1964 , 1968 and 1972 summer olympics. I only see a few things not handled correct in your templates. The valign of the Nationality and of the last race. Is there anyting you can do about that? Is there also something to do about the layout of the templates so that human readability is inproved:-).NED33 (talk) 16:30, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
- What I will try to do is to get the nationalyty on the next line of the flag.NED33 (talk) 16:33, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
- To have one column with the flag and one with the country name? That is not the common way of using flags in articles, and there are already so many columns. The valign thing I cannot find out why it happens. Smartskaft (talk) 16:45, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
- I have changed flagIOC into FlagIOC4 (same but with break) now it takes less column width. I will also have a look at the valign issue.NED33 (talk) 16:48, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
- I have not found yet an solution for the valign issue. However I did some work on your templates. Do you like the result of Sailing at the 1972 Summer Olympics – Soling? NED33 (talk) 22:24, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
- I'm still working on improvement on your wonderful idea on the result templates. Maybe better to wait a bit before altering other Olympic games. I will use 1972 Soling as test case. If I's satisfied I will ask you for your opinion. and advise.NED33 (talk) 14:55, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
- I like your idea of having the rule numbers added to your legend. However the ISAF andf her predecessor IYRU are not very consistent in the numbering. Each Olympiad the rule book is changed and in many cases renumbered. as example port starboard used to be rule 36 and is nowadays rule 10 and so on.NED33 (talk) 14:55, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
- One examples (not fool proof yet), please comment: regards NED33 (talk) 22:25, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
- Now more examples and more bullet proof:-) Greetz and Please remarks. NED33 (talk) 11:13, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
- The coding is much better now, thank you! However, I still think sail no.-boat name-helmsman-crew-country is the most natural order. Then, is sail no. really interesting enough to be mentioned? And I also think there might be a problem with the logo usage from the fair use perspective (sail emblems are okay, but rolex certainly not). And I also think it is easier to read with Wikipedia's predefined color scheme than this blue, white and grey. Smartskaft (talk) 17:25, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, I will find some result listst in my records. Rolex was just an example to show what is possible. I will have a look at the colors. Was looking for something more nautical:-). I will remove the examples now from your page.NED33 (talk) 17:35, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Vicente Brun, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Stars & Stripes (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I stop with this list as this is bad enough. Yes, links to disambiguation pages are a real problem. in fact, they lead you into thin air unless you can identify the real subject. So please solve them as soon as possible. When you can not link them and it is unlikely that at a short notice an article will be written, unlink them. When you can not link them but it is likely that an article will be written quite soon, disambiguate the subject like "MisterA (sailor)". A red link is less bad as it is often seen as an invitation to write the article... Good luck! The Banner talk 22:37, 25 February 2014 (UTC) And sorry when you think I am tough on you. I am, but for a reason.
Sailing results template
Hi User:Smartskaft. Your edit to Template:Sailing result top here [1] used an in-line citation within a template. This is potentially a problem, because it produced a reference error on the template page, as will happen on pages with <ref> tags without using {{reflist}} to produce a list of references. However, since you placed the footnote within a template, this has also produced reference errors on every single page where the {{Sailing result top}} template was transcluded. As a result, Category:Pages with missing references list has become severely backlogged. As I have no knowledge whatsoever of competitive sailing, I won't tamper with the footnotes on the two sailing result templates for now, but I would be obliged if you would find some way to fix this problem. Thank you. Altamel (talk) 00:09, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
- I think it should work better now. Smartskaft (talk) 00:20, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
- Much better. As soon as the caches of all the pages with the template are purged the ref errors should be fixed. Thanks. Altamel (talk) 00:37, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
Sailing at the xxxx Summer Olympics – yyyy
Hi, It's me again. Small quistion. Do you know of a tool of a person what/who can easely recode the results from 1932 - 2012? Before 1932 It might need some manual activities and knowledge of the situation since rules were quite different then. I will take care of those since I have figured them out a couple of years ago.NED33 (talk) 22:16, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, I don't understand what you want to do? Recode? Smartskaft (talk) 23:35, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, what I mean is that I like to see the current olympic results beeing recoded/rewriten in my template format. and that I am looking for an easy methode or volunteer.NED33 (talk) 12:06, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
- No I don't, but ask these people running bots, they maybe know. Smartskaft (talk) 17:42, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
