Trail Smelter Dispute Article for Creation
[edit]I have submitted an Article for Creation page for the Trail Smelter Dispute. You can see it at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Trail Smelter Dispute. SockeyeSam (talk) 22:39, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
Outline for Trail Smelter Dispute I am working on section one, Historical Context of SmelterSliver9754 (talk) 20:35, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- As you will have gathered from your exchanges already, there seems to be a bit of confusion on our part about creating an article, so for the time being, just work in your Sandboxes. SockeyeSam and I will keep you posted on this. --Greentina (talk) 00:37, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
Update on the Trail Smelter Dispute article
[edit]thanks for the hints on how to use this talkback function. I am almost done my section but the rest of the group was only going to have 50 words or so by tonight so we could all comment on each other's work. As far as the 13th deadline goes, will this be sufficient then? We won't be going live like everyone else with their 250-400 words until we each have a third or so of our piece, or perhaps until we have 800-100 words, is that what you mean? Or if we had my section, which will be close to 400 words, and each other group member did 100 words by sometime this week, we could go live with that perhaps? thanksSliver9754 (talk) 19:26, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
Hi Trail Smelter Group! can you please look at the draft in my sandbox and make comments/suggestions? thanks so much!Sliver9754 (talk) 20:04, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
I'm still having trouble accessing your sandbox :( --Sdesousa (talk) 20:09, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
- Hey Sdesousa, try it now. The template is poorly designed for this purpose, so I made it a regular link. The Interior (Talk)
Thanks for your help The Interior! All this is so new to us! If you have time I would love feedback from you on my draft as well. ThanksSliver9754 (talk) 20:35, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
- Sure, I'll take a look tonight. Gotta get my own homework done first though! The Interior (Talk) 21:17, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
Hey Sylvie! The draft looks great, doesn't appear to be one-sided and is simplistic enough in its language for a general audience to understand. If we are just concerned with getting our information down at this phase then I wouldn't make any adjustments to it, but if what we're putting on Stephen's talk page is going to be what is submitted for a proposed topic, I would just fix minor mechanical things (e.g., post-World War I instead of post WWI - not a big deal). --Kelselle (talk) 22:42, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
thanks Kelsey, I will make the change and I am going to remove the last part about the transborder stuff since that is when Steven comes in. Feels good to get it done. see you tomorrow. SylvieSliver9754 (talk) 02:16, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
Hey Sylvie, I just read your intro. I quite enjoyed it, being a regular wiki users I thought the language was simplistic enough but still not incredible "dumbed" down either. The facts you incorporated were, in my opinion, just the right amount of scientific info for the intro. With Stephen's concerns of using others info, I don't see it as that big of a deal simply because many wiki articles intro's give a pretty good understanding if you're just looking for a basic intro to a topic you have no knowledge of. I hope that makes sense. - Ambika Blueskynoise(talk) 13:23, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

Dispute Details
[edit]Added a large portion to my sandbox, check it out and let me know what you think. I still have some editing to do, but I can go live by tonight if everything is ok, thanks! --Sdesousa (talk) 18:21, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
Section Feedback
[edit]Hey, I just finished writing a section about transboundary international law precedents in my sandbox. I will still be refining it mostly for minor clarity issues now but let me know what you think of it so far, I can move this later today to the sandbox of the actual article if it's alright with you! I will be changing my citation style when I move it. --Kelselle (talk) 20:43, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, so I've just added proper citations to my part on precedents and I've also finished written a section about Lake Roosevelt (and that is also properly cited), let me know what you think! --Kelselle (talk) 21:40, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
Sylvie, thanks for taking the time to edit my draft of Lake Roosvelt and Transboundary Law Precedents. Thanks for catching my mechanical errors! I'm currently going on three hours of sleep as a result of a term paper, haha. I agree with you about the quotations, I was hesitant to write them in at first because I wasn't even sure if quotations were allowed! But I will definitely be switching to paraphrasing, as long as the information I had down is correct and alright with you. The Lake Roosevelt piece is a bit more contemporary compared to what is going on with the rest of the article, however, the background of the 2003 lawsuit apparently goes back ~90 years according to the Colville tribe. I'll definitely look into that a bit more but for this section it wasn't my intention to go all the way up to 2008, which is the most recent year I've been able to connect with significance to the issue. I felt that because of this 90-year claim and the fact that it happens after 1941 the topic should be mentioned, what do you think? Thanks for looking the draft over! --Kelselle (talk) 04:13, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, I thought I was also doing the smelter's continued polluting as well as legacies, otherwise I see what you're saying in that the Lake Roosevelt case doesn't make sense if we look at it in the context of legacies. I'll definitely be keeping this in my sandbox until I get a THUMBS UP from everyone, and I'll let you know when I update my drafts. 10am tutorial tomorrow is Buch D209 - see you then! --Kelselle (talk) 04:36, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
Thank you

Regarding photographs
[edit]Hello,
Thank you for uploading File:Trail Smelter Management at Rossland Golf Course meeting during dispute, 1928..jpg! I think it has a lot of historical value, and would have never been seen by the public if it weren't for you.
I was just wondering if you had any more photos from this time, or even just a higher quality scan of that image. Copyright is not a problem since they're old enough to be in the public domain in Canada.
Thank you! InverseHypercube (talk) 00:03, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
I do have a lot of photos from this era since my great grandfather was an avid photographer and was an engineer for Cominco, and took photos of the construction process on various projects. I don't have other photos of the smelter itself that I know of, since it was already built during his era. My problem is that I don't have a good scanner, I actually took that photo with my telephone of the original shot, then uploaded it, so I'm sure a better result could be achieved. Do you have any suggestions? Sliver9754 (talk) 01:33, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hmmm. You really do need a scanner to get any sort of quality (or a decent camera, but then lighting/perspective is an issue). If you're okay with it, I'd be happy to scan them myself. Then you would also have the digital versions which would be immune to any further degradation due to age. InverseHypercube (talk) 18:46, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
sure. how do we connect? Sliver9754 (talk) 18:51, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
