Orphaned photos?

[edit]

You have tagged two graphics I uploaded as "Orphaned non-free image" but they're not orphaned, they're on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/There_Is_a_Breeze. Could you explain why this album art is marked orphaned? Also, regarding your tag of " File permission problem with File:Michael-Johnson-2002.jpg", I have emailed permissions-en@wikimedia.org. Do you want a [better] custom signature? I would be happy to make you one.  Btilm  04:49, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Okay. Here is what I came with. Tell me if you want any modifications to it, and I will be happy more than happy to make them.

Here is the only problem. I can't get the Dude part to go directly to your talk page. If you will create User:Skier Dude/sigre and redirect it to your talk page and then purge this page's cache, it should work properly.  Btilm  05:31, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do you want your sig. to be round like mine?  Btilm  06:25, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Right. Just copy and paste it. If it doesn't work (somehow my sig didn't), you will have to save it in a subpage. Then, change your signiture to {{subst:NAMEoFpAGE}}. You will have to do that if it is round. Here is the round version:
Remember, you can change the small gray little curve on the left and right of the sig. to a different color.  Btilm  06:35, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I honestly don't know how linking it to your talk page worked without redirecting it. I tried what you did, but it didn't work...idk why. So, how do you like your new signature?  Btilm  06:53, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed it. I changed div to span. I am almost an expert at html and still don't know the difference between span and div.  Btilm  06:58, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. It is kind of my way of giving you a barnstar for all of your hard work, time, and effort.  Btilm  07:03, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mind fully protecting mine? Thanks.  Btilm  07:12, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I would like to know what is the music in the film "Promises (film)" (2001, Justine Shapiro, B. Z. Goldberg, Carlos Bolado) at the end of chapter 19 on the DVD, during the "Jerusalem Day" parade.

Thank you.

If you look at User_talk:Willwal#File_copyright_problem_with_File:ISC_Burgee.JPG, you will see that your signature cuts off to another line. To prevent this, replace the text in user:Skier Dude/sigre with the following. You need to edit it to see the code.

Photo deleted: Panoramic view of Ramea.jpg

[edit]

Hi there Skier Dude! You deleted a photo I uploaded on the page for Ramea (which I started). I realize it was deleted because I had not assigned a license, but I haven't been on in a while so wasn't aware of the problem. The photo is my personal work and I'd like it put back up. I will certainly add the necessary license info once it's back. Or, I can just add the photo again myself if you prefer? I still have it.

EDIT - You may need this info as well?

I see that you deleted this file. I was under the impression that use of cover art for books is a legitimate "fair use". Can you please clarify and explain what I would need to do in order to use this image? Thank you. Jim Heaphy (talk) 19:07, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the idea of how to use this properly. I will post a critical discussion of the book within a few days. Image of Anthony Sowell

[edit]

I uploaded the image of Anthony Sowell from the Cleveland police website in a form they had there for wanted criminals.

I wasn't sure exactly what copyright was appropriate but according to [[1]] talk they are considered in the public domain. Is it possible to recuperate the image?  franklin.vp  00:00, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for explaining about the tag. The link that is dead wasn't when I downloaded it. I understand that you had to delete it. The thing is that that was the form they had when he was wanted and now they captured him. The image is almost the same as in the press but before cropping. Can something be done to get the image back? I know they don't really delete the images from the servers (in most cases). franklin.vp  00:22, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Do you know where to find info about how to fill the rationale. I have never done that.  franklin.vp  00:36, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image flagged for early deletion.

[edit]

You just tagged my submitted image (HZurich.jpg) for early deletion. This is the second time in two weeks that this has happened. I have received permission from the image owner and followed the instructions that states "if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en-at-wikimedia.org". But the image keeps getting flagged and deleted. I have the permission. I have submitted the proof (3 times). I commented on the Talk page for this image twice now explaining the proof has been submitted. Will somebody at Wikipedia please followup and allow this image to stay submitted or remove the early deletion tag until somebody does tag it as acceptable? Jrnhoops (talk) 00:59, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I finally got a reply from OTRS about the image and they stated that I need to get the copyright owner to fill out their template request specifically providing Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 license use of the image. While I await the reply and the inevitable delay from OTRS after the reply is forwarded to them, is there a tag I can use on the image stating that the license info is in the works so that it won't be early deleted? Jrnhoops (talk) 00:01, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Joe_Sanchez.jpg.

[edit]

Hi Skier Dude, how are you doing? Hold on the deletion of said image since the permission of usage was sent to OTRS by the copyright holder a couple of days ago (a copy of the permit ws posted on the file page). I don't what the delay is in OTRS, but I would appreciate it if you removed the tag and give OTRS a at least a week. Thank you, Tony the Marine (talk) 01:12, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Elgar Society Cipher Competition

You have sent me a note about an uploaded graphic

ElgarSocietyComp07.png

Brief history: it is a screen grab from the Elgar Society website. This same website carried an article of mine for a year, which included the graphic.

www.elgar.org

I have written to the secretary to ask if the Society has any objections to the edited article appearing on Wikipedia, together with a graphic from their website.

They have not published the article in their Society Journal, so it is looking for a home.

An alternative is to take the graphic of Dorabella which is already in Wikimedia and appears here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorabella_Cipher

--Steve (talk) 02:19, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for guidance on graphics. The solution, as you suggest, is to accept the graphic in the stub Dorabella Cipher http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorabella_Cipher and to expand the stub as an impersonal article. The Elgar Society Cipher Competition of 2008 was the latest concerted attempt to determine what manner of cipher Elgar used. None of the proposed entries were accepted and the question remains whether it is a message at all. --Steve (talk) 13:03, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Albert Henry Krehbiel image upload.

[edit]

Hi 'Skier Dude'.

I / we at the Krehbiel Corporation and the Krehbiel Estate (see at http://www.krehbielart.com/) own copyright to all of the photographs and artwork of both Albert Henry Krehbiel (1873-1945) and Dulah Marie Evans (1875-1951). However, I am extremely confused as to how to copyright "upload" the image of Albert Krehbiel that I provided recently. Please give me a bit of assistance. We own the copyrights but I am constantly confused as to following required Wikipedia procedure -- even after attempting to several times.

I have always found Wikipedia to be procedurally very confusing, even though I "single handedly" built KrehbielArt.com [2] and developed the site (through HTML, Directory work, etc.) into one of the top art sites in the world (under relevant search terms like "american impressionist painters", "american muralists", etc., etc.).

Thank you very much for your kind assistance and consideration.

[edit]

Hi again "Skier Dude",

All that I meant to provide you with was proof that we own copyright to the images and artwork of both Albert Henry Krehbiel and Dulah Marie Evans. We are totally willing to give those rights to Wikipedia, but it is very confusing as to the procedure in getting this done.

The only objective here is to get images of Albert Henry Krehbiel on the respective Albert Krehbiel article. Once this is done, we would also like to provide an image of Dulah Marie Evans on her article at Wikipedia -- [[5]]).

My main point here is that all we want to do is to release our copyright to Wikipedia (with no restrictions)

We have allowed such copyright tender to well over 40 books as well that have been written about Albert Henry Krehbiel and Dulah Marie Evans (as well throughout the Internet -- [Albert Henry Krehbiel]; [6] / [Dulah Marie Evans] -- [7] -- and we have never run into such a (with all due respect) "hassle".

Supernova (song) image

[edit]

Early yesterday morning, you deleted File:Supernova (Mr Hudson song).png under WP:CSD#F1 as it was an exact, non-commons duplicate of another file, namely File:Supernova.png. As far as I can see, though, Supernova.png was actually just a redirect (now broken) to the Supernova (Mr Hudson song).png image, so unless there are other reasons for removal, would you be opposed to restoring it? Thanks. ~ Amory (utc) 14:55, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the delete, now how do I do it?

[edit]

Hi, thanks for cleaning up the broken file I uploaded earlier. I don't know why Inkscape could see it fine but the wikimedia soft couldn't. I tried all the tricks under the graphics help page (adding x,y coords etc.) but for some reason it was still broken. I'm going to have to look into it more later.

Also if something like this happens again how can I request a delete of the broken file myself? Is there a tag I can put on the page to quickly have it removed, or can I remove it myself? Any links to tutorials or whatnot would be appreciated. Thanks! Colincbn (talk) 04:56, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what else to say here. I am the Vice President of Marketing for Winning Moves Games. We create board games and puzzles worldwide. You deleted the image I uploaded of our game - King Me...and the King Me page itself is now gone. This is our game...we invented it, we marketed it, we took the photo, we provided it to Amazon, B&N and every other online retailer. I personally uploaded it to the Wiki page. I understand the policies and I am very happy to know that there are moderators out there policing the Wiki pages but this is getting a bit annoying. My images keep getting deleted....for products that we created, invented, and/or marketed. It seems that each time I explain this to someone...someone else comes along and deletes the image. I've already sent in all the necessary forms and paperwork required to prove that these images belong to us...heck, you can see ALL our images on our website winning-moves.com Thank you, joe —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joesequino (talkcontribs) 16:53, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jacinta Collins

[edit]

You have deleted the photo of Senator Jacinta Collins. This photo is personally owned by Senator Collins, and she asked me to upload it for her, as was clearly stated in the attached statement. I don't understand the message you posted at my discussion page. Have the rules for photos been changed again? What do I now have to do to upload this photo and not have it deleted? Adam (talk) 00:43, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. According to the page you referred me to, the copyright holder of a photo has to state personally that they release the photo to the public domain. But I did provide a statement from Senator Collins saying exactly that (which you have now deleted). She is the copyright holder, she stated that she released the photo. Why is that not acceptable? What more can I do? Adam (talk) 21:55, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kind Request for Advice

[edit]

Hi Skier Dude, You had previously left some correspondence on my talk pages and I am presuming that you are quite experienced and knowledgable with uploading images to Wiki. I wish to upload an image of a document drafted by a foreign government that represents an official Decision/Decree or an Administrative ruling by that federal government. It lists members officially appointed to a Committee that was to deal with profession standards. This document can be obtained easily because it is public policy. What PD tag does one use for something like that? Turqoise127 (talk) 21:14, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Depends on a couple of things - 1st, what country? You can see by the list at Category:Wikipedia image copyright templates that there's multiple ones for different countries (see Template:PD-**country name** part of the list). Then, when you've got the right country, you'll have to provide a source that clearly links the document to the governmental source (i.e. something like a .gov website). It would also behoove you to link to the publication policy of the government/site, just in case (belts and suspenders). Skier Dude (talk) 03:48, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your quick response. The country is Croatia, does not seem to be included in our PD-country-list. I am not sure that {{PD-Yugoslavia}} applies since this is in more recent times (2003-2004). Is {{PD-law}} usable yet? I can easily link the document to the government source. Turqoise127 (talk) 15:54, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're right in that it doesn't appear that {{PD-Yugoslavia}} is appropriate due to the date. {{PD-laws}} is still in discussion and it isn't used on any documents as of yet, so I'd be hesitant to use it. The safest bet, until PD-law is resolved, would probably be to go with {{PD-because}} and fill in the details such as {{PD-because|It is believed that this applies to such works whether they are Federal, State, or local as well as to those of foreign governments. (See [http://ipmall.info/hosted_resources/CopyrightCompendium/chapter_0200.asp 206.01 of Compendium II: Copyright Office Practices].)}}. Skier Dude (talk) 02:49, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Poster question

[edit]

Hi I uploaded the photo here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Kingkongvsgodzilla-656x1024.jpg

I'm not sure what to write exactly. This was owned by Universal but apparently they have no rights to it anymore (this includes other publicity materials associated with the film such as the theatrical trailer). Just to be on the safe side should I just write Universal? As for where I got it I scanned it from my own personal collection for informational purposes.

So do I write

-summary-

(c) Universal Studios

-Summary-

  • Description: Promotional poster for the U.S release of the film, King Kong vs Godzilla (1963).

-Fair use rationale for King Kong vs. Godzilla-

  1. the photo is only being used for informational purposes.

Would that be enough?Giantdevilfish (talk) 16:46, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well. I gave it a shot. I'm not sure if I did it right. Even though I've been editing on the Wikipedia for a few years now, I've never uploaded posters before (up until the other day). So I don't know if I got all this template stuff correct. Is it sufficient? I played it safe and mentioned both Universal and Toho (even though I'm pretty sure Universal doesn't own any of the promotional materials for the film anymore. Only the film itself. This is why they couldn't add the trailer as an extra to the DVD release back in 2005.)Giantdevilfish (talk) 00:10, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see you have also picked up on this user claiming photos from the 1890s to 1920s as 'all my own work'. I have been watching this user since February 2009 and despite warnings and deleted files (and suggestions how he can do it correctly) he continues with the same path. It may be worth checking back through every photo file he has ever uploaded.

His talk page is awkward to follow because he deletes anything negative on sight. A copyright template posted there by MilborneOne earlier today has already vanished. 21st CENTURY GREENSTUFF 03:34, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I've been helping User:Jxc5 out with some articles now and then over the past few months (as you likely know) and it has recently turned toward some issues with image copyrights, as you noted here. Jxc5 left me a question on my talk page and while I have a relatively firm understanding of copyright, my knowledge with the application of it, especially images, is pretty shaky, and is not an area I've participated in much here. Would you be willing to lend both of us a hand, or at the very least double-check what I wrote? ~ Amory (utc) 22:21, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain why you deleted this image:

01:03, 23 November 2009 Skier Dude (talk | contribs) deleted "File:Christian-mortensen.jpg" ‎ (F4: Lack of licensing information)

Also, I disagree with the "F4" reason, which is being misused.Ryoung122 14:53, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The "F4" reason is 100% applicable in this case - the image did not have any templated license whatsoever, which is the basic requirement for this deletion criteria. Please explain your accusation of "misuse"! Skier Dude (talk) 20:12, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Can this be "undeleted"? I think it's a shame that Wikipedia now has NO PHOTO of the OLDEST VERIFIED MAN, EVER. Also, too often people like to DELETE things (reactive) rather than proactively attempting to "fix" the problem they identify. There's plenty of information on both Mr. Mortensen and where the photos of him come from. See, for example:

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Terry-park-stadium.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Terry-park-stadium.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nyttend (talk) 23:19, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Lewis & Clark: The Journey of the Corps of Discovery, which you proposed for deletion. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks!

Skier Dude, I've removed the prod tag you placed on this article. I know the article's not much to look at as is, but I believe notability can be established with some effort.

[edit]

Hi Skier Dude, Thanks for your e-mail. The file:Ohso logosmall color angled.jpg is a fair use image. I was trying to upload it to the top of the television info box of the article I created for Oh So Cosmo, but I am new to Wikipedia and can't seem to figure out how to insert it properly. I have permission to use this image (I work for CosmoTV) and would welcome your help in inserting the image. I read your policy on non-free media and as far as I can tell, this is fair use. I have also uploaded a photograph of the hosts of Oh So Cosmo, under the same fair use agreement, which I unsuccessfully tried to add to the article. Again your assistance with this matter is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help! Scream 4

I sent that AfD via Friendly. I wonder why it didn't create it? But yes I still want it to be looked at, because Scream 4 hasn't begun filming, so it should be removed. How do I make the page manually? Thanks. --Mike Allen talk · contribs 23:55, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Do ALL pages have to go through AfD before being removed, even if it's a page like this? Like since you're an Admin, and you come up on a page like this (or something silly like a page someone created on themselves for "fun"), you can't delete it on the spot? Just curious. --Mike Allen talk · contribs 00:45, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No I was just wondering if all articles must go through AfD.. didn't mean to sound like I wanted you to go ahead and delete it. I was looking through the history of the page and noticed it goes back to like 2007. How is that possible if the page has been deleted before? Also, would it be better to redirect it to Scream (film series)#Scream_4_.282010.29? --Mike Allen talk · contribs 00:58, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
