Hi Skier Dude. Hope you're well. Since you're usually one of the few admins who regularly clear out Category:Non-free images with orphaned versions more than 7 days old, I thought I'd let you know that I've written a bot to automatically remove {{Orphaned non-free revisions}}
from files that no longer have orphaned revisions. This means that you can use scripts such as User:Drilnoth/delresized.js to delete old revisions without leaving a mess behind. I could really use your help in clearing that backlog out. Regards, FASTILY (TALK) 23:40, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
I don't known why File:Amalrik.jpg was removed from the article Andrei Amalrik, but I've restored it to the article (in an infobox) and deleted the "orphaned image" template from the file page. I had just uploaded a file with Amalrik's signature to the Commons for use in the article, so I caught the potential deletion before it took place. As you know, I'm not the uploader of the image, but I'd hate to see it deleted unless it truly does not have a "fair use" rationale. I hope I've acted correctly. -- Cuppysfriend (talk) 00:29, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Weapons by Weapons.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Weapons by Weapons.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 06:53, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

I have created an SVG version of the Triangle Fraternity logo, for use as a tag on my personal web site (I am a brother of Triangle.) It's a trivial 8-line SVG, just a 'path' to draw a triangle, and a 'text' to drop in a 'T' in Times New Roman. It seems to be *almost* pixel-perfect to the original Triangle Fraternity logo you uploaded. How can I submit the new SVG to Wikipedia? Should I copy/paste the 8 lines here? -jh — Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.84.2.59 (talk) 01:01, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Reasons for deleting an article
[edit]I would like to know about the reasons for your deletion of an atricle with the title; "Human Revolution in SGI".
My name is Safwan Zabalawi, and I am the originator of that article, which consumed over a hundred hours of research and editing. The article was published after a question was raised on the net about the necessity of having a short wiki-article on the mentioned subject.
I have put that article in good faith and followed all Wiki rules. Wiki rules require from contributors clear specification of the reason and content of their editing, and warns against vandalism. It is against the code of acceptable sharing the Wikipedia to just delete others work without giving any reason for this. Such an attitude, if it goes unreported can spread and can degrade and weaken Wikipedia, and I am very serious on following up this matter : why did you erase that article. Was there anything abusive to anyone in that article? Or unacceptable under wiki-rules? I request an answer because I intend to publish and to contribute further.

- The page you noted (Human Revolution in SGI)was a redirect page - the original article was Human Revolution which was deleted by Fastily under the advertising or promotion criteria. You will need to look at WP:NOTPROMOTION and Advertising for the basic reasons. You may contact Fastily or place a request for undeletion at WP:Requests for undeletion Skier Dude (talk) 03:04, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
Fair Use Deletion
[edit]Happy New Year Skier Dude. In responding to this help request I noticed that you tagged a few of the mentioned pics for deletion. I suspect this was purely as you were cleaning up and saw the images in the FUR orphan category, but if there is more to it that the editors should know (and if Δ doesn't reply) then perhaps you can give your two cents there too. 7 09:36, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Seems to be resolved on the talk page - if I missed something there, just let me know :) Skier Dude (talk) 01:13, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
I restored 2 files you deleted long ago
[edit]Hi
I restored File:Setupteamhq.ogg and File:Situationcontrolled.ogg deleted by you.
I noticed the 2 files because they used in G.I._Joe_Adventure_Team#Commander_Voice along with some other files nominated for a deletion.
The last few days a lot of ogg-files has been nominated as unused even if they are in use. For example Wikipedia:Files_for_deletion/2011_December_26#File:Gettherebeforedark.ogg. So I first thought you deleted them because of that. Later I found out they were deleted long before that.
The files are in use so I do not think we should delete them as unusable. Instead of deleting them again and starting an undeletion request I suggest that we delete all of the files in one place.
Hope that is ok with you and you are ofcourse most welcome to comment in the DR. --MGA73 (talk) 20:44, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Me thinkest that there's a slow-motion edit war about the use of these, as neither of these files are in use as I write! I'm looking at Fastily's noms on 12/26/11 and Flocc.ogg - Gettherebeforedark.ogg - Goingtoberough.ogg - Missionaccomplished.ogg - Toughassignment.ogg - Contacthq.ogg - Neededinafrica.ogg - are all again showing as not being used on en-wiki. Skier Dude (talk) 01:23, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
- A slow war :-D The problem is that you can't see them under "File usage" only under "What links here". The DR was now closed as keep but a "No permission" has been added instead. I would have prefered a PUF but lets see what happens. --MGA73 (talk) 19:05, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

just wondering why you deleted the talk page. If i am correct then there were vandalism warning on the history so whether he blanked it or not should it not of been kept blanked. It means that any non admin will be unable to see if he has been warned or even banned before to see if user needs reported. I don't know policy on it so i may be totally wrong but would appreciate it being explained just so i know in future. Thanks for your time. Edinburgh Wanderer 12:33, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
- also unsure why g7 would apply as wouldn't be one user contributing. Edinburgh Wanderer 13:57, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
- There were only two edits to that page - your Lev. 1 warning and then blanking the page (which is read as G7). Could have been deleted as G6 (general maintenance) as well, as we see a lot of twinkle/huggle reverts to IP warnings that are usually 'misfires' from those programs. As the IPs are often dynamic (released to multiple end users) its (IMHO) best to let the IPs start afresh when there's this type of edit. Admins can always check to see if its a pattern (which I do on these deletes) and restore the pages - but I haven't seen that happen in a long time. Skier Dude (talk) 00:42, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

You tagged it for deletion as unused fair-use, but the fair-use is only a backup tag in case someone didn't think it meets the PD tag that is also there. - The image is basically speedy deletion criterion #7 for images or media - Replaceable fair use, as the subject is alive and there theoretically would be no reason that a photo can't be taken of this person. Since that really can't be addressed, there really can't be a fair use rationale for any copyrighted photo. Skier Dude (talk) 04:59, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

Making a better artcle (reg removal of the Operational Research society logo from the wikipedia on the Operational research society)on
[edit]Dear Skier Dude
You recently removed a logo from the Operational Research Society Wikipedia Page, which I had uploaded. Clearly I have in some way breeched wikipedia rules and guidelines, which was not my intention. I will be reading Wikipedia rules carefully and re-examining all the articles I have written in Wikipedia to improve them.
However, I do get a bit confused over copyright issues and use of appropriate language in Wikipedia, so I tend to construct wikipedia articles based on the structuire of other Wikipedia articles and how they have been written (it seemed a sensible way to build an article to me) as a starting point. If you can point me to a couple of well constructed articles on Learned Professional/Societies which you feel are good Wikipedia articles then that would be much appreciated. Note I do not/will not copy text I will just use the article(s) as a starting point for how my articles should be written.
Any help you can give is appreciated.
All Thanks

I did not request deletion of my talk page, I just created it so it would be available for use. 71.146.10.10 (talk) 00:14, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
- Please look at the "G7" criteria for deletion WP:CSD#G7 - you blanked the page, which I read as a G7 request since the initial edit was just a dash -which you have just done again. Continual re-creation of a blank page could be considered as vandalism, as there is no reason for doing this. Skier Dude (talk) 00:19, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
- P.S. "Making it available for use" is nonsense - as every page, even without a dash on it, is always available for editing.Skier Dude (talk) 00:25, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Hey, shouldn't this file be PD-old? Sumanch (talk) 21:31, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
- If it's a reproduction by Daivd Rumsey, according to that website [1], the image would be CC BY-NC-SA 2.0 = some rights reserved, which means for here, it's a non-free image because of the CC restrictions. If it were not a re-touched/re-imaged (i.e. the original) image then one of the PD-old licenses would be appropriate, but given the retouched nature of the image and the editor's CC release, we're stuck with treating it like a non-free image. You seem to be incredibly productive. I appreciate all the work you do for Wikipeida. --Radvo (talk) 14:33, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Orphaned image
[edit]I tried to put that image in the article but I don't know why the image was not displayed. Maybe you can help? I tried.. ANd syntax was also correct..--Kondicherry (talk) 08:42, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
Hello, Skier Dude. I see that you deleted the previous version of this image, at least I think you did. But I want to point out that the previous image was actually the one with a fair-use rationale and source. This new version was uploaded on top of "mine" without updating the rationale or source. Since you are an administrator, will you fix this by undeleting the previous image and addressing the other uploader about it? I would have reverted and spoken to that other uploader, but I was busy at the time I discovered the change a few days ago, didn't feel like a confrontation, and figured that the user would be reverted by the person examining the two versions before deciding which one to delete. Flyer22 (talk) 17:34, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
- Skier Dude, do you have anything to state about this? Or should I ask the user where they got the source for this image, use that, and update the rest of the fair-use rationale myself? Or just re-upload the previous image? Flyer22 (talk) 22:19, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
- Got it - overwritten version deleted as non-sourced. Thanks. Skier Dude (talk) 03:22, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you. Flyer22 (talk) 19:31, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Montage images up for deletion
[edit]You stated for each that, "although the individual pics are listed with claimed copyright status, no sources are given to be able to prove these. Without the sources, no way to confirm the (c) status of each image". But the source of each image is given on each of their image description pages. --Geniac (talk) 02:27, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
Dear Skier Dude
I would like to know how I can add a picture that is on a wikipedia page in English to another language? i tried before but it did not work. Is it only possible to do that with wikipedia House of Commons?

[edit]You have tagged this image as
- This file is up for deletion, per CSD F5 (orphaned fair use)
I removed the image from the article Don't Wanna Lose You Again (as noted on the talk page) since the article stated:-
- Surprisingly, the official cover for the song sports an obvious spelling mistake, writing "Lose" as "Loose". For an unknown reason, this was never corrected, so thus, the cover presented here is an interpretation of the official cover, with the spelling mistake removed.
My understanding of fair use for record covers is that it includes:-
- The entire cover: because the image is cover art, a form of product packaging, the entire image is needed to identify the product, properly convey the meaning and branding intended, and avoid tarnishing or misrepresenting the image.
Clearly, an "interpretation of the official cover" fails to meet this purpose, so I believe it needs deleting, but possibly for a different reason, and possibly sooner?
Hope I've understood the complexities of fair-use - if not the image can be re-inserted back into the article. - Arjayay (talk) 08:51, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
deletion of 'unused' non-free images LarianStudiosLogo.png , LarianLogo.png and LarianStudiosLogoM.png
[edit]These images were linked to in a draft update for the article they were intended for, and removed by a bot several times since it wasn't the article named when the files were uploaded (though it was a sub page of the Talk page for the main article, named 'draft', so that should have been obvious).
Please un-delete these images. I get a warning to check the deletion log before re-uploading the images, but can not actually re-upload them.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:LarianStudiosLogo.png http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:LarianLogo.png http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:LarianStudiosLogoM.png
I have requested feedback from Larian Studios on the article edits, and will hopefully be able to update the main page soon, so the draft page shouldn't be around too much longer.

Vandalism???
[edit]I do not recall making that edit. I see it on my edit summary, but I have never gone to that file in my memory. And I have never made an accusation of vandalism in all my history of editing on Wikipedia (I questioned at the help desk how this could have happened.) My apologies. → Michael J Ⓣ Ⓒ 13:41, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

image mistakenly deleted
[edit]Hi Skier Dude
You appear to have deleted the image portrait(low res).jpg from this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carole_Morin
I have in fact already forwarded relevant permissions, but perhaps there was a problem tying this up with the image. The permission is pasted below.
Please do get back to me or the photographer if there is anything else you need from us. If it's easier for you for me to re upload the image please let me know.
All best wishes Huasen

Orphaned Image - JGBS-Logo.png
[edit]Hi,
I've uploaded the image for use with an article about Jindal Global Business School. The article (with the image in place) should be done in the next day or two. I'm hoping that's not an issue. Do let me know. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.169.64.9 (talk) 20:09, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit]I noticed that you deleted the subject file 24 Jan 2012. This is a headshot of the subject, taken by professional photographer, Kriten Hoeberman. On 10 January 2012, Ms. Hoeberman submitted an email to permissions_commons@wikimedia.org giving her permission as the copyright-holder for am "Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0" (unported) and GNU Free Documentation License (unversioned, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts. I am not sure if I need to notate this information on the photo of if someone finally gets around to reading the license submissions and replaces the photo that was erroneourly removed. Please let me know. I am happy to forward a copy of Ms. Hoeberman's email to you.

Deletion of File:Hocking River at Logan, Ohio.jpg
[edit]Hello. The instructions I received regarding File:Hocking River at Logan, Ohio.jpg indicated that if I contacted OTRS, I should "add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion." However I the file was deleted anyway with the notation "can be restored if OTRS is received." So which one of us was wasting his time ... ? — Kralizec! (talk) 01:38, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
Deleted File: "MEG&bandit.jpg"
[edit]Hi, there.
I have come to learn that you have deleted a file which I uploaded last week, "File:MEG&bandit.jpg" for reason F5: Unused non-free media.
I am a little confused, as from what I understand, as this image was used as part of a book cover by Morris E. Goodman, it constitutes as accepted fair use media. Perhaps I am understanding this wrong, and would gladly welcome an explanation.
Please note that Mr. Goodman is a friend of mine, and is helping me as I am producing a feature film on his life. I have his permission to use this photo. (Is there anything else you need to prove permission?)
