Robert de Umfraville scheduled for TFA

This is to let you know that the Robert de Umfraville article has been scheduled as today's featured article for April 10, 2022. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 10, 2022, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

I did not...

...miss the reference to my oppose in your own rationale. Thanks for noticing the point I was raising. You took an extended break last year, and I've been editing sporadically for many months. Thank you today for the article, introduced (in 2018): "John de Mowbray is one of those medieval characters of whom—while we know very little, if anything, of their personal or private lives—reveals a lot about themselves by their reaction to events and treatment (including mistreatment!) of political rivals. Mowbray has much that personifies the "overmighty subject" of the Wars of the Roses, private feuds and killings, imprisonment in the Tower of London, roadside trysts with his wife, and finally, in the last months of his, literally changing the course of history by being late. What he was late to, though, was the biggest and bloodiest battle in English history, with decisive results. All round, an interesting if not always pleasant man—but no less the product of his age than anyone else. That, however, is another question."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:26, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

I was thinking I hadn't seen you around at SPI much lately - that explains the backlog... Girth Summit (blether) 15:04, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
Yeah, now that @Theleekycauldron has her mop, the pressure is off promoting queues at WP:DYK, so I've taken a semi-break from adminish tasks to (gasp!) work on content. I've got a bunch of articles I've written over the years that I never quite got up to GA, so I've been pushing those through, and while I was in that mode, decided to try my hand at a FA. WikiCup 2023 September newsletter

The fourth round of the competition has finished, with anyone scoring less than 673 points being eliminated. It was a high scoring round with all but one of the contestants who progressed to the final having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were

  • New York (state) Epicgenius, with 2173 points topping the scores, gained mainly from a featured article, 38 good articles and 9 DYKs. He was followed by
  • Sammi Brie, with 1575 points, gained mainly from a featured article, 28 good articles and 50 good article reviews. Close behind was
  • Thebiguglyalien, with 1535 points mainly gained from a featured article, 15 good articles, 26 good article reviews and lots of bonus points.

Between them during round 4, contestants achieved 12 featured articles, 3 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 126 good articles, 46 DYK entries, 14 ITN entries, 67 featured article candidate reviews and 147 good article reviews. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them and within 24 hours of the end of the final. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.

I will be standing down as a judge after the end of the contest. I think the Cup encourages productive editors to improve their contributions to Wikipedia and I hope that someone else will step up to take over the running of the Cup. Sturmvogel 66 (talk), and Cwmhiraeth (talk)

New pages patrol newsletter

Hello Serial Number 54129,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

Reminders:

Could you explain why did you remove my message on Black Kite’s talk page

I would like to know. Please enlighten me. 5.44.37.172 (talk) 18:38, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

  • I suppose it was inevitable that you'd post here now you've been blocked from that talk page. Well, I'm very sorry you are not getting the attention you may or may not deserve, but if you go around the stage casting unfounded (diffless) aspersions, then you must expect to be removed from the play. HTH! Serial 18:42, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
I think as a moderator Black Kite should he transparent and not delete the criticism he receives. Also about the unfounded aspersions he blocked my account due to it being puppet account without showing any proof that it is. This is power tripping playbook. Please do your research before making unfounded (diffless) aspersions.
    He blocked my account: Easing3220
Show me that I have broken that rule and I will apologize to him and you and state it publicly. Else unblock my account I will not create a new account and give him satisfaction of knowing he was right about me. I will cease to make any more edits. 5.44.37.172 (talk) 18:51, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
Hmm - self-confessed block evasion? IP blocked. Girth Summit (blether) 18:57, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
Girth, you are a true artiste  :) perfect timing! Serial 19:02, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
You're very welcome. By the way, your funky floating logo thing is cool, but it sure makes it difficult to reply to (or even read) the last thread on this talk page... Girth Summit (blether) 19:05, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

An image of someone holding a resume is not an "attack page". I've asked you twice for an explanation of what you mean by this and twice you've ignored it completely. Please either explain what you meant by this, nominate it for MfD with an actual rationale, or stop trolling. jp×g🗯️ 22:47, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

Please elaborate

Hi SN, could you kindly elaborate on why this was misguided? [1] Graham Beards (talk) 12:12, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

I have no idea why you would wish to discuss that here rather than at ANI. SerialNumber54129 12:20, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
Because undermining an admin's actions in a dispute in which they are not a party is a poor show. Graham Beards (talk) 12:43, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
@Graham Beards: Admins should always be open to criticism and I don't think a relevant action being examined during the discussion is at all inappropriate. I also don't think we should discourage our actions from being openly and transparently examined so that we can learn and improve if necessary. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:06, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
Pssst @Serial Number 54129, wrong diff link at ANI. You linked to Tvx1's talk page. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:56, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for your advice. Please note that SN hasn't posted a link. If you feel you must comment, please ensure you know what's going on. Graham Beards (talk) 13:17, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
@Graham Beards: What do you mean, I haven't posted a link? To what? To the ANI discussion that you were taking part in until you decided to post here? I suspect HMIJ has a pretty clear idea what's going on, regardless of whether SN has or hasn't posted a link.
BTW, I've asked you a question here. Cheers! SerialNumber54129 13:44, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

Update: To which Graham Beards replied, succintly, "No." Following which ScottishFinnishRadish asked if GB could do a quick review of WP:ADMINACCT and make a better reply? Reply there came none. So either Graham Beards is not interest[ed in] preventing more drama, or accountability does not apply. Bbb23, in closing the discussion, also appears to support SFR's opinion. So, with a combo of GB seemingly threatening to use their admin tools unfairly, and then refusing to explain—indeed, preferring to come here and accuse me of "undermining an admin's actions"—the optics aren't great. SerialNumber54129 14:15, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

@Graham Beards: What gave you the impression that I wasn't caught up on what was going on? I stand by my statement, and I find your dismissal to be concerning. What I find even more concerning were your replies at ANI (like this one) which were, frankly, a failure of WP:ADMINACCT. SN, if you choose to open anything up regarding this issue please feel free to ping me, as I'm growing more concerned with each of Graham's replies. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:38, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
There seems to be a fair bit of history between Graham and SchnoCat for what it's worth, most of it seeming to be overwhelmingly positive and constructive (FAC work/reviewing). Graham has only ever applied an admin protection three times, the other two being to User talk:SchroCat, which were both overreactions/overprotections as well given that the disruptive edits were coming from IPs at the time (a valid talk page message from a long term editor which criticized SchnoCat was also removed). I think the history between SchroCat and Graham is why Tvx1 may have gotten a warning while SchroCat did not, despite both being involved in the edit warring. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:16, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Another one who can't spell my name properly: it's not that difficult, so please try and get it right. I've emailed Graham maybe four times in life, (one of which was to ask for the removal of a post from my talk page from someone who has been asked several times not to post there), but let's not let the facts get in the way of some bad faith smear tactics. He knows my name because not only did I used to use it as my signature, but it was the one I used on my Christmas posts too (and I'm sorry I seem to have hurt your feelings by not sending you one, but given the snark and bad faith in this, it's not that surprising). Maybe you should try reading AGF and putting into practice sometime: not everything is a behind the scenes conspiracy orchestrated offline. - SchroCat (talk) 16:26, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
@SchroCat: Fact of the matter is you both should have been warned, plain and simple, there's really nothing to debate on that front and that's the relevant matter. As admins, we're expected to adhere to WP:ADMINACCT, which Graham's replies have failed to do. As for the snark, yes, that was more than appropriate (please don't put me on your Christmas card list), which I do apologize for, but you obviously know that I've removed my snark and you felt like focusing your reply on it anyways. May I also encourage you to WP:AGF and work on your attitude if someone misspelling your name is so upsetting that you assume people aren't trying? Anyways, thanks for your work at FA, I appreciate the work you put in to improve content. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:39, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
You post that nonsense, including erroneous and misleading nonsense about my talk page (about which you know zero), and yet you advise me to AGF? FFS - look in the mirror on that one and get over yourself. You think we should both have been warned? Possibly, but I had already stopped reverting and opened the thread on the talk page by that point; the other editor was continuing to edit war. Maybe, just maybe, Graham had seen that and adjusted his approach accordingly (the clue to this is the part of the message on the other editor's talk page that says "Please use the Talk Page and stop reverting"). But it would mean AGF to think like that, and that's a commodity in short supply at the moment. Dramah stirring: that seems to be in plentiful supply however. Erroneous guesswork? That's another one where there's plenty to go round. I remember the days when admins would try to de-escalate issues, not stoke the fires; I miss those days. - SchroCat (talk) 16:50, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
You think we should both have been warned? Possibly, but... – I don't think it, I know it. Having opened a thread on the talk page already is not listed as an exception at WP:3RRNO, which means your fourth revert should not have happened and that you both violated WP:3RR. This means you both should have been warned or blocked, that's just factual. I'm not looking to re-litigate things here, but I just wanted to state that, without question, what you did is still a violation of 3RR. Regarding your continued focus on text that was removed and already apologized for, which again, I'm sorry for being that snarky, I will re-iterate you should WP:AGF since I did remove it before it was replied to and I apologized and acknowledged the snark in my edit summary. With that said, your language is the exact opposite of a deescalating tone, despite my efforts and my apology. Your previous message is not working towards a conclusion, it's one of wanting to cast aspersions towards me, so lets cease any further bits of that and take it to my talk page or ANI instead of continuing this at SN's talk page. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:06, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
My aim in starting this thread was to afford an opportunity to explain my admin actions. SN declined to engage here. My actions were not relevant to the conversation at ANI, which was a complaint about SchroCat not me, and this is why I decided here would an appropriate venue, sadly all I got was a torrent of bad faith. Here's my account of what transpired.
  • An edit war came to my attention while browsing.
  • I left a warning on the Talk Page of the editor I deemed to be the instigator.
  • I did not trust that editor to adhere to my advice, so I protected the page for 24 hours.
  • I did not warn SchroCat because he had initiated a conversation on the Talk Page and I consider WP:FAOWN relevant here.
  • I did not take any side in the content dispute.
  • I have not discussed any of the above with SchroCat anywhere.
  • On reflection, my choosing not to warn SchroCat was a mistake for which I sincerely apologise. Graham Beards (talk) 17:08, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
@Graham Beards: Thank you for the acknowledgement that both users should have been warned. I would also like to apologize directly for the snarky implications I had posted and quickly edited that SchroCat has been referencing. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:11, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
@Hey man im josh Where did this come from? "Graham has only ever applied an admin protection three times". Please see: [2] And please explain what you meant by this "which were both overreactions/overprotections as well given that the disruptive edits were coming from IPs" Graham Beards (talk) 17:47, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
(edit conflict)@Graham Beards:, if your last 50 protections didn't take us back to, err, 2009, you would know that the reference is to full protection, i.e., protection that only admins can edit through.
And while I appreciate the increasingly positive atmos in these parts, I'll note two things. One, that GB has not yet answered the question I asked at ANI, and secondly, that they did not come here to "afford an opportunity to explain my admin actions", but rather, ask me why I was questioning them. These are not simply differences of interpretation, but two completely different goals.
Anyway. Does anyone fancy a pint. SerialNumber54129 17:55, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
@Graham Beards: Your ping to me failed because you added it in after the you had already posted your comment. For clarity, I was referring to the "require administrator access" protection when I said "admin protections", as opposed to protections in general. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:57, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
Apologies, you should have made yourself more clear. I think it's for the best for us to move on. There is nothing more to be gained here IMHO.Graham Beards (talk) 18:02, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
Tchk', look at that, gaslit on my own talk page. That's pretty specialist. @Graham Beards:, what about WP:ADMINACCT? (Noting that other behaviours, such as the avoidance of accountability, etc., may also intimate an issue with WP:ADMINCOND.) Cheers, SerialNumber54129 18:33, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
Could you let go of this, please? There's been no avoidance of ADMINCOND, no "gaslighting", and there is no benefit to anyone of continually keeping the sniping alive. At the very least, I'd suggest Graham mute pings from you for a while, unwatchlist this talk page, and go about his business. Floquenbeam (talk) 18:45, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
I do hope you are not trying to get a rise out of me. You may well be correct that there have been no conduct issues; I would dispute that, but it's a matter of interpretation to some degree. If that's the case, tell me there's also "been no avoidance" of ADMINACCT. If you've read any of the threads. I hope that's not an assumption too far, but otherwise, you would know perfectly well that the only reason this is on my page in the first place is because GB brought it here from ANI, where the discussion was taking place. I explicitly did not engage him here.
On the conduct issue, if admins should behave in a respectful... manner, that does not include studiously ignoring my questions on my own page.
On a final note, what "business" would you like Graham to go about? Leaving aside the original implied warning of administrative action (for which they have now apologised, albeit 16 hours later), do you think their "business" is telling editors who question their actions that they are "undermining" them? Do you think (and yes, I think a few people would like this in writing) that calling someone an idiot is a lesser offence than saying an action was an "unnecessary overreaction"? That the latter was rude but the former wasn't? Because, Floquenbeam, that's precisely what your compadre GB seems to consider his "business". I do not think he needs further encouragement. As someone might say: "Sigh". SerialNumber54129 19:24, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
For posterity, this was archived 9 minutes after the many questions above were asked. I did not ignore them. --Floquenbeam (talk) 19:42, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
