Jak sockpuppets
I'll just say it here, to everyone - @Indrian:, @TheTimesAreAChanging:, @Mr. Gonna Change My Name Forever: - and anyone else. Let me know if you have any more suspected sockpuppets of Jakandsig - I've spent enough time dealing with him now that I'm comfortable with blocking anyone I believe to be him for block evasion per WP:DUCK. I may not take action on everyone that is suggested, but please don't hesitate to throw it out there to me. Sergecross73 msg me 17:54, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- Well, that did not take long. This fellow just went active mere minutes after John Mayer lost his talk page access. He has already tried to claim the Dreamcast was not the first system with a built in modem something Jak and friends claimed on multiple occasions. Indrian (talk) 02:31, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- It looks like he's back! And ready to challenge those Atari 7800 sales figures yet again...TheTimesAreAChanging (talk) 19:15, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- I thought this one looked suspicious as well when he first appeared last night, and his new focus on the 7800 only serves to reinforce those suspicions. Probably not enough yet for an outright block, but he should at the very least be watched closely. Indrian (talk) 19:22, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- Same article/sales concerns, just registered last night, long-winded edit summaries, trouble with wiki-formatting, it does seem similar... Sergecross73 msg me 19:27, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- I reverted Golden Cog's edit on Atari 2600. The edit was unsourced and mediocre.
IX|(C"<)00:05, 2 March 2014 (UTC)- Also reverted his Sega Game Gear edit, which changed the name of the "End of life" subsection to "Decline".
IX|(C"<)00:08, 2 March 2014 (UTC)- I was mistaken. His Game Gear edit changed "Decline" to "End of life".
IX|(C"<)19:08, 2 March 2014 (UTC) - An edit to the Super Thunder Blade article by Carrots was reverted.
IX|(C"<)00:15, 2 March 2014 (UTC)- I wish I would become an administrator, just because the unlikely Jak creates problematic sockpuppets. I think I could block Jak indefinitely if this sockpuppet situation continually worsens. I hope I can be a nice, content-improving admin.
IX|(C"<)00:24, 2 March 2014 (UTC)- Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I'm starting to wonder if Jakandsig was even his first account.TheTimesAreAChanging (talk) 00:48, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
- I think it was. Before Jak, there were anons pushing the same views on the CD-I page and others, but not another named account. I think Jak was his move from anonymous posting to account posting. Indrian (talk) 00:51, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
- Jak first used IP 64.134.64.30 back in October 12, 2013, adding unsourced information to Street Fighter II. The Stick Man reverted that edit.
IX|(C"<)00:58, 2 March 2014 (UTC)- I'm happy North American video game crash of 1983 is semi-protected.

- Feel free to contact me if you need extra admin support for the socks; I am always Angry and Willing. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:45, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
- @Ohnoitsjamie:, thanks, I appreciate it. I suppose, now that we're on the subject, what's your opinion on what to do with this guy? On one hand, the guy hasn't broken any rules yet, but on the other hand, it really seems like he's another sock. (He became active almost exactly after John Mayor lost talk page access, he keeps advocating that the systems that competed against the Nintendo Entertainment System are under-represented/underappreciated, etc.) I don't want to waste time, but don't want to be overly aggressive either. Thoughts? Sergecross73 msg me 01:24, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- I was a little conflicted about that as well. Assuming that it is him, he's certainly changed his tone and approach (at least the interactions I scanned through), but on the other hand, block evasion is block evasion. I noticed when he accidentally got logged out his IP traced to a research network in Greece, which to me smells like proxying. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:06, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- He does change his approach every so often. User:leeroyhim, for instance, was very polite and generally non-confrontational. There are almost as many personalities as accounts, but they are unified by a single agenda on video game history pages that don't tend to receive a lot of attention generally and by their often awkward and grammatically poor edits. At this point I don't think there is enough info yet to make a determination, but if he keeps editing, the agenda always comes out eventually. Indrian (talk) 15:34, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, his "John Mayor" account was pretty calm in the beginning too. I imagine the same will happen with this account. Things won't go his way, he'll get irritated, make a scene, and then probably either be blocked due to another positive SPI report or quacking too loud. Sergecross73 msg me 15:51, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- I've considering putting a site-ban on Jakandsig mainly because of his disruptive edits and sockpuppetry. I can guess that Greek proxy is causing all of this sockpuppetry he has, and maybe that kind of ban can be done to both Jak and the proxy.
IX|(C"<)00:26, 4 March 2014 (UTC)- By "Greek proxy", I mean the IP from the Greek research network Jak used. The IP is "2001:648:2FFC:1225:A800:FF:FE2E:B06C".

IX|(C"<)03:30, 8 March 2014 (UTC)- Cog/Jak's obviously feeling a bit discouraged by the suspicion, since he hasn't begun to overhaul the articles he tagged. Could this new account be his reaction? Does he really think any new account editing the same pages is likely to evade our suspicion? Or I am just being paranoid? Stay tuned to Wikipedia for more of When Socks Attack!TheTimesAreAChanging (talk) 00:55, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
- I believe his Holiness is definitely a sock, as his opening statement on the crash page fits Jak and friends to a tee. No doubt his excommunication will follow in short order if he starts making changes. Indrian (talk) 00:58, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Smoking gun for User:Golden_Cog_Afternoon_Karate_Exit. The IP listed above that Golden admitted was him just attempted to restore bogus information that Jak and friends have tried to add on multiple occasions. Indrian (talk) 20:34, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

IX|(C"<)20:44, 15 March 2014 (UTC)- IP 173.224.219.45 seemed like a climax. Jakandsig started out as a minority, and then he grew worse over time with unravelings of his disruptive edits, sockpuppetry, lies, and incivility. Today we reached the top of the mountain: a hailstorm consisting of around 8 or more Jak sockpuppets with a sense of chaos were blocked within hours. He will be known as one of the worst cases of sockpuppetry.

Now Jak is continuing his ridiculous campaign on his own talk page. Can his access be revoked, or does it need to be kept open in case he wants to appeal the indefinite block? I would think the personal attacks and delusional ranting would be enough to just shut it down. Indrian (talk) 21:21, 15 March 2014 (UTC)

Talk page stalker here, It seems Jaks plan is to get as many Ips blocked as possible. I believe it may be to make it so other people can't edit or create accounts. Everytime I am about to edit, a page gets attacked. I think it's time to treat this as a more serious issue since he's actually damaging multiple pages in a short period of time. 91.184.0.80 (talk) 22:21, 15 March 2014 (UTC)

Mr*|(60nna)23:44, 31 March 2014 (UTC)- In addition to switching to an IP at Sega Saturn's talk page, it seems likely that Jak has created this new account to defend the honor of the Atari Jaguar. - Hi there! Wanted to clear up some things in case there was any confusion, especially for Mr.Change.
- Your edit in Quake damaged part of the paragraph and made it read like "influenced by who wields a giant hammer" which is a broken sentence.
- You and this users edit in Rune Factory 4 do not contain a source that proves the European version was cancelled, or the dates of that supposed cancellation. If you have a source, simply add it in and restore. I tried looking for one for both of you, but was not able to find a reliable source to edit in.

- While I will admit that it is the responsibility of the ones challenged to provide a source, at the same time, @CrimeInvestigation&Patrol:, you really should try doing a simple google search rather than challenging it so aggressively. Just "European Rune Factory 4" alone would have given me the correct results. I will be sure to take more time when searching for a source in the future. But luckily, it's all taken care of now.
- Mr.Change, thanks again for finding that reference. But be careful with your edits so they don't end up like the Quake Article. CrimeInvestigation&Patrol (talk) 22:11, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

- Comparing me using Bing with the wrong words quickly, to you not looking at the sources that Wikipedia needs to be accurate for reliability is not a comparison one can actually make. What's even stranger is you act like new users can't use that big help button on the left side of the site and read all the rules and such before posting, so I am not sure why you came to the conclusion I was giving you a lecture like you were new/under me thus the 2 day comment.
- I wanted to point out that It is important for people to look at the references they are reverting, because references are very important and need to be accurate or an article is pretty much trash. See WP:REF, WP:CITE, and WP:INCITE. You seem to be heated right now looking at your recent edits so I'll just wait for you to be less combative. Let us be more neutral.. CrimeInvestigation&Patrol (talk) 19:03, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
