If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}}
and your question on your user talk page, and someone will show up shortly to answer. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on talk and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! --Kralizec! (talk) 20:30, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- Welcome to the welcoming committee (WC). We are an informal group of Wikipedians who greet new users and help them get started in various ways. Our main activity is to greet new users. To do that we post a welcome message on their talk pages (if they don't have a talk page yet, create one for them!). Often, it's best to post a personalized greeting composed directly from you to the new user. But to save time, you can use a premade greeting template or a cut-and-paste greeting. The traditional standard template is {{Welcome}}, but there are lots of other choices in Welcome templates. To use the traditional template, type this on a new user's talk page:
{{subst:welcome}} ~~~~
If the new user responds to the welcome message (you may wish to put his talk page on your watchlist), follow up with more help. You may wish to suggest adoption. Sarregouset 21:37, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
Barney & Friends
[edit]Thanks for catching that. They vandalise several articles but they seem to have a special thing for Barney & Friends. It's sneaky vandalism but they are gone for a month. Cheers. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by CambridgeBayWeather (talk • contribs) 23:44, 15 March 2007 (UTC).
Not going to waste my time with Wikipedia again!
[edit]I received the following "Please do not add unhelpful and unconstructive content to Wikipedia, as you did to Xaverian College. Your edits appear to be vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. –Sarregouset (Talk) 21:09, 3 May 2007" from 'Sarregouset', but would like to object.
1. I do not think the content I had added was unhelpful, nor unconstructive as I was merely adding to, not creating the Alumni Section of Xaverian College. 2. I had created a page for my father, best-selling author Billy Hopkins but which has since been deleted and wanted to add a link to his page from the Xaverian College page. The Alumni section was already there. (Though the page I created for my sister, best-selling author Cathy Hopkins has been allowed to remain). 3. I had been asked to create a new Wiki page for my brother Steve Hopkins, of MADchester Music fame (and also ex-Xaverian College) as he is mentioned on so many other (Wikipedia) Manchester music pages, but with no links given to his own page.
Now I don't think I'll waste my time with Wikipedia again, as [1] seems like a much better place to go for information! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lordnum (talk • contribs) 09:26, 21 May 2007 (UTC).
- I am sorry you took it that way, as it was not my intent. I may have associated your edits with others’ vandalism on the same page. Or perhaps I should have said spam instead of vandalism, as Cathy Hopkins is a candidate for deletion under CSD#A7 and CSD#G11. Unfortunately, you waited several weeks to mention this, and I can't say for sure. If you plan to edit constructively, please do not let this scare you away. –Sarregouset (Talk) 23:19, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Template:Units of energy
[edit]I've just noticed you tagged the Units of energy template for speedy deletion. Unfortunately it was deleted over the weekend before I had a chance to review it. From memory, it was created in the style of another "Template:Units of ..." which I can't locate now. It was designed for use on pages like Energy and Work and Joule and so forth, but I think it was a combination of it not being complete, and the Energy page being in quite a state of flux, that meant it was not referenced anywhere by the time you came across it.
I now believe it, or at least the information it contained, could be quite useful on Units of energy. From your deletion comment "does not contribute any additional information" I'm hoping that the information it contained actually appears elsewhere. Do you know where that might be? Can you comment further whether you think the template would have been useful on Units of energy? LightYear 03:12, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
- I’m sorry; when I noticed it, it had not been edited substantially since January, so I assumed it was dead in the water. All it contained, if I remember correctly, was the conversion of calories and watt-hours into joules and a bunch of ‘≡ 1’s across the table diagonally. This information (and more) is on pages such as Joule already.
- You are right in that Units of energy could use an organized set of conversion factors; I had not seen that page before. Perhaps you can create something that fulfills the purpose of the deleted template. –Sarregouset (Talk) 11:48, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
- As you'll see on Units of energy, I found there actually does exist a page with all the conversions, at conversion of units. There's no matrix of handy conversion factors, but at least all the info is there. LightYear 01:29, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- I agree; that will do for now. It had a need for some kind of table with that information, and you fulfilled it. –Sarregouset (Talk) 22:11, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Fair use disputed for Image:The 13 Clocks (Simont).jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:The 13 Clocks (Simont).jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:03, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

RE:It took me two hours
[edit]What do you mean? Sorry for the misunderstanding. Meldshal42Comments and SuggestionsMy Contributions 12:01, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
- Why, it took almost two hours for the first person to find your SSSSP. I thought you might be disapointed. –Sarregouset (Talk) 19:30, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, well, I'm not disappointed. The last one took about 5 minutes, so I had to switch it. You are the only one to have found the new one. Meldshal42Comments and SuggestionsMy Contributions 21:43, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:LUwithShield-CMYK.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:LUwithShield-CMYK.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:34, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- That's because I orphaned it. Why so uptight? –Sarregouset (talk) 01:27, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
Motto of the day
[edit]Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.
When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.
If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:32, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

invalid alt text
[edit]Hi, Can you tell me why the alt text your removed with this edit was invalid? I've used similar on lots of church pics & I wondered what was wrong?— Rod talk 16:27, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
- I apologise - you were right - the alt was against the title not the image - hopefully fixed now.— Rod talk 16:50, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014
[edit]Motto of the Day (WP:MOTD) is in a state of emergency and really needs your help! There are not enough editors who are reviewing or nominating mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review, and this probably means that you will notice a red link or “This space for rent” as our mottos for the next weeks and months.
Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- This message has been sent by pjoef on behalf of Motto of the Day to all editors of the English Wikipedia who are showing MOTD's templates on their pages, and to all the participants to MOTD: (page, template, and category).
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Tau Beta Pi Association seal.png
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Tau Beta Pi Association seal.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:02, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

The file File:Lehigh original seal.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
unused, low-res, no obvious use
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
