Azikiwe lived with his grandmother in Onitsha until 1915.
- He went to the west to live with his parents after his father was transferred to Lagos.
He started his education from 1915 to 1918 in an elementary school in Lagos. He returned to Onitsha and finished his primary education in March 1920.

- At about seventeen years, he left after four months to Lagos, where he continued at Methodist Boys' High School until September 1921.
