Apparent Norton Antivirus war

I am massively less familiar than you with the workings of editing wikipedia. I would like to bring this issue to some sort of dispute resolution process, but am uncertain how to go about it. I did try, by following the "talk" link.

However it isn't a promising start for any resolution, that you respond by assuming I'm someone who changes my IP address in some sinister fashion. I am in fact just an ordinary UK citizen who has recently (and only once, ever) changed internet provider. I previously had a username HotelNewHampshire, but have found problems logging in.

It is an extraordinarily aggressive and inappropriate step in response to an attempted negotiation to seek to block my address. It is as if, in real life you responded to a civilised approach by seeking to have me arrested. I don't believe you would act that way in person, but people feel able to behave differently online.

The disputed entry in the article, is something I feel fairly strongly about, because I feel Symantec are a company who should not have to resort to such aggressive sales measures. The truth of the entry is manifestly verifiable. I don't know what wikipedia's rules are on this, but I would very much like some direct feedback from them on this specific matter, so that it is clear just what sort of reference they do require in such a case.

It was interesting to discover, initially, that every time I entered the reference to the matter on Symantec's own page, I then discovered the page had been moved. The continual deletion of this entry feels rather like the same thing.

I say again, I would like to resolve this issue one way or the other, and without a war. Given that Wikipedia aims to provide completeness and accuracy in its articles, I hope it can find a way to make that possible in this case. After reconsidering myself, I　decided not to block all your IP addresses. It was a threat, yes, and I should have not threatened you with a ban. I am in no position to issue bans, threaten people, nor am I likely to be able to ban people in the future. I Norton AntiVirus semi-protection#specifically told the administrator intervening in this case not to ban you; I've been banned numerous occasions. Bans make people bitter and often create more problems as the ban is lifted. Just google "TechOutsider" and you will see me banned in several forums, even the Norton forums themselves. reason below ...

I hopped on my neighbor's IP address right after that and created a new account, "Rolin09". I was banned, however subsequently created two sockpuppets.

At the Norton forums, I was banned as well. [1]. Haven't logged on since December 2008. If I could, I definitely would!

I appreciate you being civil in this argument (I more or less turned this into an argument by reverting your edits w/o further explanation). Had you reported me, I would have been warned, and possibly banned at an admin's discretion. Oh, I've also had my share of flaming people on Wikipedia as well. A user left me a particularly nasty message about Norton on an article's talk page, see Talk:Norton AntiVirus/Archive 2#Major edit. Guess what I did? I copy and pasted the exact same message the editor left me and put it on the Kaspersky Internet Security talk page, just see the whole Kaspersky Internet Security talk page. I have to compliment User:Jamshud to taking my flamebaits seriously and actually using them as motivation to improve the article. Nevertheless, I attacked him endlessly.

Now, in no way am I implying you are a Kaspersky fan.

A ban on all your IP addresses would affect innocent users and discourage a diplomatic approach to solving this problem. Instead, the reason why you cannot edit Norton AntiVirus is because an administrator (not me) semi-protected the article, not allowing anon. IP users to edit it. I thought by doing so you may create an account, become an autoconfirmed user, and then discuss the issue more seriously with me. Before, you edited under multiple IPs; I don't know if that was on purpose or because you didn't know you had a dynamic IP. I left a message on one of the IP addresses' talk page, and you failed to respond to my message.

You admit you do not know about Wikipedia's policies that well (such as dispute resolution). Let me first state Wikipedia aims for completeness. However, the crux of this model is the fact Wikipedia requires all disputable information to be backed up by a source. See WP:V and WP:OR; those are not my rules, but Wikipedia's. I could be lax, and let your information slide in the article. However, I do have a bias, and thus cannot. Doing so would also not help Wikipedia.

I actually tried to locate the article you linked to; I created a sockpuppet on the Norton forums (now don't tell em' that -_-) and asked a moderator/employee to help me locate the article. He has been very helpful, however has not replied. Honest! I can even e-mail you my login/pass so you can see my private message for yourself!

You've been a very good player so far. I'm the one who should have my Wikipedia priv. revoked. Editing Wikipedia is a priv., not a right, see Wikipedia:Free speech.

You reported a problem with a link to the Washington Post trying to add a source to Norton Antivirus, but you gave no URL. There may be a regex error in an expression intended for another site, but without the exact URL that triggered the spam filter for you, there was no way to check. If you could reconstruct the error and put the URL on the blaclist discussion page, it would be possible to fix the problem. (To put the URL there, you can put it up without the http:// so that, then, the spam filter doesn't see it as a link. Or you can put the whole link inside <nowiki>(URL)</nowiki> tags so that, again, it isn't parsed as a link. Thanks. --Abd (talk) 03:13, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Look, you really need my input before submitting any FACs. That was brought up in its last FAC submission. Second, you mention the article has "good grammer". Thank you. However, your message does not contain correct grammer. It seems as if you are nominating an article I contributed to to gain recognition for yourself. I think in the future, it would be best if you ask me first. I doubt the article will pass its second FAC. I don't mind if you submit what is largely my work, however next time you need to consult me; I mean anything published on Wikipedia is free for use. However, by submitting an article which will most likely not pass according to the FA criteria only damages *our* reputation. Again, I am not mad or cross at you for submitting my work, however I think we should both talk about how to improve it beforehand. I'd have to agree with TO on this Tyw7. Absolutely no offense intended, but see WP:NOTIMELIMIT. I think it's always best to consult and confer with the editor who is most active with an article. If you know the direction someone is headed, it makes it easier to combine your efforts. Jetico Personal Firewall

Dropped a WP:N tag on Jetico Personal Firewall, which you appear to have edited. Curious as to whether you feel this can actually be brought up to a level where it meets WP:N - I'm unfamiliar with the product, and Google provides nothing that on first glance appears useful?
